Swim
Comments: We were in the last wave, wave 3. I wasn't comfortable until I was about 3/4 way done the swim. For some reason, I don't feel good in open water anymore. Transition 1
Comments: I couldn't get the wetsuit over my feet again. I did not wear socks for the bike and that worked out very well. What would you do differently?: Cut my wetsuit shorter? Bike
Comments: We turned around a little short of that parking lot this year. I forget what their reasoning was. So annoying doing that turnaround. There were two cars blocking my way. A few of us had to really slow down and wait for the cars to go. We had a tailwind on the way out. I couldn't really feel it but I was going faster than normal so I just assumed it was coming from behind. I slowed down on the way back. I looked for Linda after the turnaround. I never saw her because I was looking for a pink helmet and then realized that she doesn't wear that one for races. I didn't take a GU this year on the bike. I had about a half bottle of watered down Gatorade. What would you do differently?: Not much. Transition 2
Comments: Put socks on for the run and a visor because it was sunny. I also put my knee sleeve on. Run
Comments: I felt really sluggish for the start; actually for most of the way. Running feels so difficult anymore. I saw Linda after the turnaround. I timed from the turnaround to when I saw her coming so I knew how much time I had. What would you do differently?: I'm really pleased with my race results. I hadn't raced since last year's Eagleman. I've hardly been able to break a 10:30 pace in training so to pull out a 9:22 run average (per my Garmin) was pretty exciting for me. But when I compare that to what I used to do, it gets depressing. I have to stop doing that. Post race
Warm down: Crossed the line and went right over to transition to get my phone. I figured I might have just enough time to get back and get a photo of Linda finishing. I just made it! They didn't have the sandwiches this year. They had a bunch of snack items and bananas. My plastic bag came in handy for carrying stuff. The race director was so nice in letting me defer to this year when I got covid race week last year. And then letting me switch from the aquabike to triathlon since I was injured when I originally signed up. Event comments: Good race! Last updated: 2023-06-19 12:00 AM

Linda came over at 5:10 and we departed about 5:15. We went over the Walt Whitman Bridge through the 95 detour for the collapse. Arrival wasn't as easy as usual because I started to think I didn't put the correct address in my phone. Then I changed the address to the one they said to use for parking and it sent us a long way around. If only we had gone the same way we have been for the past 10 years. So annoying and needlessly stressful!
We parked along the road because we came in from the opposite direction.
The date for this race was changed from Memorial weekend to Father's Day. It had something to do with the township and weeds in the lake. It's a shame that some people couldn't make it because of that.
I used to eat a power bar before starting the swim but I can't get those anymore. I had a chocolate Hammer gel instead.
