which would be your biggest fear? http://www.scienceagogo.com/news/medical_mishaps.shtml1. Waking During Surgery 2. Objects Left In The Body After Surgery 3. Wrong Site Surgery 4. Dirty Doctors 5. Prescription Medicine 6. Doctors Of Death 7. Buried Alive 8. Private Contractors 9. Drug Trials 10. Cosmetic Cock-Ups #4 is interesting. when women were delivering babies, mothers' mortality rate was much better. it was only after docs got in on it that women started dying more frequently. majority of this was due to not washing hands between surgery, autopsy, delivery. lovely stuff. since midwives were more involved in other areas of work - laundry, cleaning - their hands were cleaner. as for me, i'd be torn between #3 and #5.

Wow..... I'm not sure what to make of the article. They offer very little in the way of statistics, so I don't even know how often the stuff takes place.

does it matter? we're talking about possibilities and fear...not statistical probabilities. my sister in law is afraid of spiders. will she be injured or killed by a spider? probably not...but she's still afraid of them.

Cosmetic cock-up? Is that like when you wake up from surgery to find your penis implanted on, say, your forehead?

I'd vote for not waking up. That would suck.

I woke up during knee surgeries  #3 and #5. Both times I'd been given a spinal. The first time I remember hearing the surgeon say "Is he down? He keeps moving . Put him back down for cryin' out loud! Then he grabbed my leg and yelled at me "stop moving!" The room got fuzzy before I was aware of any pain. The second time I felt my eyes being peeled open and there was this masked face staring at me, and then another face popped into view and one of them said "Ooh. He does have pretty eyes". She let go of my eyelids and I went back out. In the recovery room I asked the nurses who was peeling my eyes open and they said "Oh that was probably doctor so-and-so. She does that a lot".

hmm... so, peeling a patient's eyelid would wake you up from anesthesia?  GOod research material here.
