Swim
Comments: This was an experience. The water was really rough. I think I actually would have had a good swim had I not been so disoriented. I started out well and was doing my usual siting every 14-16 strokes. Half way to the first turn I looked up and couldn't see anything. My goggles were completely fogged up. I took them off to find that I was way off course and started to panic a bit. I swam back towards the buoys and looked up and found I had gone too far and was now in the middle of the course. My time was bad, but all in all if I would have done what I did in the last 2/3's of the race and sited every 8 strokes I would have swam at least 4 to 5 minutes faster. What would you do differently?: Work on siting at the pool and definitely need to get more open water swimming practice. Transition 1
Comments: I took my time on this transition as I was still a little in awe of having a really weird swim. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: I was really happy with my bike. The wind was pretty stiff on the way out ranging from 10-15 mph. So the way back was great and I was able to average around 22-23 on the way back. Considering the old beast that I'm riding I was very pleased. What would you do differently?: Drank a little more water and wore sunscreen. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition What would you do differently?: Put my race belt on while I started to run. Run
Comments: I tanked (as I've done on all 3 of my tri's on the run). My goal was to run the first half with my heart rate in zone 3 and push the second half. Problem was I was in zone 4 from the beginning. It was really frustrating getting passed by everyone on the run. I was overheating pretty good and each water station I walked to get some fluids in. What would you do differently?: Really work on running in the off-season. By far the weak link of my triathlon season. Post race
Warm down: A little stretching, a banana, and a little love from my 1 year old. What limited your ability to perform faster: Siting on the swim, a late 90's old trek bike, and a lack of true running fitness on the run. Last updated: 2004-06-09 12:00 AM

Nothing special... up at 5 at breakfast, clif bar, banana, glass of oj. Drove to the race and drank 1/2 a gatorade and 1/2 a powerbar.
The usual 15 minutes on the bike, 15 minutes of running and stretching, and then hit the water until the race started.
