Iowa |  Subject: 2004 Year of the First Tri - "Resolve to" Here!Hey - Great New Year's Day to all. 2004 is the year of my first triahlon - a couple of sprints to start - maybe an olympic by next 12/31? So here it is - my commitment to DO IT! Anyone else out there ready to comit? First tri in 2004. I just had a great 10km run with built in intervals and feel great, sore but great. Bring it on, Let the serious training begin!!!! My commitment as well - nearly a first time as I did a corporate sprint tri about 5 yrs ago but never really went at it properly! Next mouse click is to book a place in a pool sprint tri on May 2nd (first of a series of 3 in the summer) - then there's no backing out. Just created my weekly training plan for each week until then, based on some of the new stuff I just saw on the site. This is going to be a breakthrough 2004 for my fitness levels. I'm aiming for a sprint tri in August after a brief intro to triathlons in 1999 and a weight gaining sabatical since then! Being a New England sports fan I will have to "tri" not to hurt myself jumping onto a band wagon. This is the year for my first tri. I am looking at one in May. Hope to do at least two this year along with a couple of road races. My long term goal is to Ironman when I am forty. I figure this gives me a solid SIX YEARS to build up. One step at a time at least one sprint this year. By the way would anyone be interested in sharing there most unexpected tri experinces durring an official event. I have heard of things like DQ's for drafting and not having helmets buckeled while handeling a bike. Those kinds of tidbits would be helpful as the nerves kick in in about 4 mos. Most unexpected item: Seeing the truck picking up orange cones marking the course while I was still finishing the event (When I say finishing, I mean I still had another 30 minutes to go!) :-( I did my first last year, but my 10 year old daughter and 14 year old son figure if Dad can do it, so can they. So put us down for the SuperSprint Tri in St. Joseph, MI. in June. Kids will be doing the kids distance and Dad will be doing the adult distance.They wouldn't let me sign up for the kids' distance. Dad got a third place medal in his age group last year (There were 3 of us in my age group). |

I'm diving in head first. this is my 4th week of training and I LOVE IT! my first sprint tri is 3/13/04 and then the next one is 5/2/04. have not planned past that but I would imagine that I will get at least one more in before the end of the summer. the t-shirt sounds like a lot of fun.... how much$ and how do I get one. |

I would like to do at least 4 of them but I need to find a job so I can pay the entrance fee. The only definite one I will not do is July 25th because my wife and I are going up to Lake Placid to watch IRONMAN USA. About a 5 hour trip from Rochester. I might even volunteer. Shirt sounds cool. And this site is a excellent motivational tool. It really keeps me focused. |

Outdoor training is getting tougher here in IA - (-20F wind chill coming up tonight) - so it's indoor track running stairs and got to find a pool this week. There's a few of us in the UK and even as far as Korea who may be interested. That said, I travel to San Diego regularly on business so could collect one when I'm next there in March. ) and of course it was the turn that took me down the side of a large hill! Camron could you please post the info on the Disney Tri you are doing. My family has been pushing to go and I keep saying the kids are to young.
