Subject: RE: Add 2 part road and 1 part trainer and shakeThere is definitely no problem adding in trainer rides to a plan - as you are thinking they are a perfect way to do drills that would be impossible or unsafe on the road.
I would probably mix up your times a little rather than riding 3x1hour. Instead maybe a 30'-40' trainer ride (drills ), a one hour mid/high zone 2 ride and a 1:30 long ride (high zone 1, low zone 2 ). If you use a variety of workouts, the stresses your body has to recover from are different and you will therefore become more fit.
