* A prolonged illness (e.g. flu) or serious injury too.
* No drops in the last week of the challenge.
4. No log input after 2 full weeks (a team member may be dropped as long as several attempts (PM) are made to contact them.
5. Time (min/hr) and or Distance (miles/km) for goals. You can mix them , e.g. Run = time and Bike = miles or vise versa.

7. Train safe...
8. Smack talk is encouraged...

I'm finally on the board. Did my first run this month - 5 miles (52 min). That's an all-time high for me and I really felt good throughout. That's something I'd never imaged I'd ever say about running!!!

I'm a newbie to the sport. Have my first race scheduled for April - a bit longer than the typical sprint (from what I've seen) but still a short course.

Looking forward to this challenge and the extra motivation!

Well for the first "week" I was at Bike-68 miles and Run 4.48 miles. Ahead of pace on the bike but below pace on the run. No worries though, this "week" included a rest day for me, so I think I'm in good shape.
I am working on building my base back up on the bike starting this month and am starting back up the 2 a days after recovering for the last few months after IMFL and the Disney Marathon.
I have the Ugly Mudder Trail Run (7.2 miles more or less) on Feb 25 at Mt Penn, PA which should be interesting (monster hills, tons of people, and lots of beer waiting at the finish line). We have a group from work going up so it should be fun. My big race this year looks like the Eagleman 70.3 in June and IMLP in 2008.

Go Green!!!

This cold weather will make it hard to reach my run goal. I HATE the treadmill. I have a feeling I will just need to do a couple of 4-5hr runs. Run forest run.....

incognito,

Are you using one of the BT plans?  Living in a cold climate (MN), it's definitely hard to get outdoors everyday especially when it's -1F out (not including windchill).  Just a whole lot of clothes to wear/bring/wash in a week.  I use an indoor track at the Y, and then use a treadmill only for hillwork.  I always (or try to always) run outside once a week, usually Saturday, with the running group.  Feel free to take a look at my planned training (marathon training plan - BT Silver)...

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/index-weekly.asp?memberid=18439&year=&month=&day=

On the left hand side of the page is planned training.  If you pass the cursor over the date, you can see the details.

Good luck!

My plan is to get in my run miles early in the month and do more Bike and swimming in the final two weeks.
I have a race this week . To celebrate Chinese New Year Chinatown Los Angeles is hosting a hilly Firecracker 10 k run on Feb 11 th. Its named Firecrackers because they set off 100000 of them to start the race.
There is a nice group from work doing it. Should be fun and I really look forward to dim sum and beer afterwards .
Will try and convert some of them over to triathlon ....

Welcome to all . I Hope the Artic weather breaks soon for our northern teammates.
Don't forget to schedule some R&R .

Well the challenge is working. The last thing I wanted to do today was squeeze in a 6 mile run after work and before an appointment in this freezing cold. Good news is I got out and did it, bad news is I might have re injured my hamstring. I hope it was just a mixture of cold and overstraining, this has been the most frustrating injury ever. It happened in the beginning of December and ever time I think I'm over it there is a not so subtle reminder. Ugggggg.

Hey Green Team!

Keep up the good work.

I just got off a run on the treadmill...and one of the Y's in town has put TVs (individual) on each 'mill. I don't know whether I love it or hate it. I hate to have to wait in line, but I can avoid this by going at off times, like mid-afternoon. But beyond that, I also find myself looking past it a lot - I know there's no obligation to look at it, but I feel compelled to turn it on, since its there and its new.

Last run, I plugged my headphones in and watched TV, but today I put the picture on but listened to my iPod.

I have no evidence, but is this a good thing or should I go back to my closer Y that has only the usual TVs overhead turned to news & sports? (I guess it doesn't really matter, so long as I get my minutes in, huh?)

Morning team,

Got a good run in last night and plan another one this weekend. I'll also be getting in a bike or two over the next few days. Whether down here is about perfect, so I need to take advantage of it before it warms up too much.

I am fighting a sore throat/cold at the moment. It's a little worse this morning but I am praying it passes quickly and without impeding any workouts.

Happy training!

Alright Green Team...

I had another below goal week and I apologize for that but I'm still with you and next week is another week. I'm planning a couple of bricks so hopefully that'll up my training minutes. Despite snowstorms and -40 weather I'm still feeling inspired! Good luck team!

Ahead of schedule on the bike (my wife and I went to a 1 hr spinning class last Saturday).  Despite a fairly solid week of running, I'm still about 3 hrs behind on my run hours.  Last Saturday the wind chills outside were dangerously low (-25F).  When I woke up to go running, my wife says 'you shouldn't go running today, why don't you do the spin class with me instead this morning?'  At 6:15am that sounded like a great idea, so I slept in and missed my long run last Saturday.

As far as my long run tomorrow, I have friends from Chicago coming in tonight.  I'm going to have to get up a little earlier, so that I'm back home by 8am before everyone wakes up.  So I'll be running in the cold AND the dark...

Have a great weekend everyone...

Welcome to All The GREENS , I love all the posts , keep sharing your pain and successes .

Being its the Green Team , I have attached this odd image

feel free to add a quote .

enders_shadow : I would totally go for the treadmill with your choice of Channels. Its a great Thing !
You are running and enjoying a show of your choice . Win Win ...

We are approaching 33% of the time elapsed . Many on the team are really challenged by fierce winter weather and still getting good workout in . Keep it up. Just do what you can. Keep pluging away at your Mileage/Time Mountain . Every workout adds up wether it is Big or small.

I am Tapering a little for a 10km race Sunday so I got in an Easy pace 2 miles run and 5 miles on the gym bike this morning.

Paul, good luck on your race Sunday.  What's the weather forecast?

I ran a half mary first week of February.  It was cold (17F) AND windy (20 mph winds).  Needless to say, it wasn't a PR...

Thanks Sparco

Weather? Expecting 55F with a 50% chance of rain this Sunday.
Pretty favorable for me.

I Should be good for a PR even with the tough hilly course. Its will be my second 10km.

Well this was a challenging week, being on the road and having to do everything after work in a lousy hotel gym, but I pulled it off and am ahead of pace for both the bike and run. Now the big challenge is the snow forcasted for the rest of the week and what impact it will have on my planned outdoor lunch runs. If the roads are a mess, it can be quite hazardous to share the road, so I may have to improvise. (Good thing I have the treadmill downstairs.)
As of today I'm at 158 miles bike and 33.02 miles running. I may do some cycling tonight but I'll play that by ear.

Feeling like I bit of more than I can chew. Starting to feel signs of over training. The hamstring injury set me back further than I thought. I have a week off of work starting the 19th I'm not sure how much ground I will be able to make up. I love this challenge though, I still need to be smart. Anybody got tips on how to push through this without causing problems down he road.
