the olympics last night with the paul haam in the mens gymnastics all around?

wow...if u need inspiration or motivation, watch that.  i was amazed.  who would have though that after falling from 2nd place (i think) to 12th place after a horrible landing with only 2 events left he would have gotten the gold???

of course he had help from the other contenders, china and s.korea...they followed suit and made significant mistakes too...for the last 2 events, he needed them perfect...he did it!  i couldnt beleive what he did for the bar routine at the end that won it.  amazing!  he was in 12th and never gave up and did the hardest routine ever as he still had faith.  i think for many, falling on your butt for a landing would mentally do you in...he just strengthened his resolve...u can come back from last place to win...something to remember...

It was amazing. I almost cried when I saw that he got a high enough score to take gold! And the look on his face... priceless! He said afterwards that he didn't think he even had a shot at the gold until he was told he had it. What a feeling that must be!

Kim,

I did cry. I mean I had heard that he won the gold thanks to the stupid media in this country. But I wanted to see it. It was amazing. I could see his face after he fell and I saw a little disappointement but I saw more determination. I mean, man, what a heck of an inspiration for him to come back after that. It made me feel really whiny for the slump I'm in right now. It was great.

Yeah, Ovetta. It really drove home the NEVER GIVE UP you always hear (I think he actually said that in his interview....hmmm). I'll have to think about him during my first tri. What an inspiration!

Proof that it ain't over till it's over.

I stayed up late last night to watch the whole thing. It was great! After the valut the commentators were saying "He will not be all-around champion. There's no way he can win gold now. This will haunt him forever." Then he goes and wins.

That's got to be one of the best Olympic moments ever.

Definitely an awesome finish, although I think McLure (the other american) got kind of shafted at the end...not a great rings routine, by any means, but certainly not a 9.1!!...he easily could have medalled with as little as a 9.5...and after some of the other scores, with him not falling, breaking, missing...makes you wonder how they score these things...what a great disposition, though, he knew he had no business in the thick of it, and just smiled all night long...we probably watched the greatest night in that guys life...cool to watch
