Subject: RE: I'm going to New Mexico...Any travel advice? I am from New Mexico and lived there until recently. I have not spent a lot of time in the places that you will be visiting, but I figured out that I could offer up some good advice. 1) When at a restaurant, the waitress will ask you, "red or green." They are talking about chile. It comes on everything and is absolutely fantastic. I LOVE green chile! 2) New Mexican food is different from Mexican food. Its all made the same, but tastes different. You'll understand. 3) When choosing a restaurant, look for the most run down place you can find. They *usually* have the best food. 4) Try the salsa. Its hot, so be careful if you don't care for hot food. 5) New Mexican sunsets are amazing. Drive to the middle of the desert (which isn't hard to do, by any means) and just sit and watch the sun go down. You won't be sorry. 6) Don't judge New Mexico by Santa Fe or Albuquerque. I don't think they are a fair representation of the state. 7) Have fun and report back! (I miss it there) |
