Ok, so the water was 69* last year. Shall we start a pool for this year's water temp.? I say 66*.

I went out with my new wetsuit to Kelso the week before and the water was $##% freezing!

The weather got nice a few days before and so the water was great for race day!

Hopefully we'll get lucky again this yr!

For the newbies make sure you give the 6th line hill a try before the race or at least do some hill work!

I'd recommend a wet suit. Be careful if you rent one. I rented one a few years back and nearly drowned. It was way too tight and I never swam in one before. Couple that with the shock of the cold water and I freaked out. The water was a warm 68 that year too.

My guess is 65 for this year.

And yeah, the 6th line hill is harder than the Niagara climb I find. I like switchbacks on my climbs not just a straight up hill climb.

See everyone there!

How would you say that the 6th line hill ranks, those who hav done the sprint before? I'm trying to visualise it in my head. I tend to ride Scenic Caves Road in Collingwood a lot, but I'm not seeing 6th as bad.

I fully intend ride it before hand however.

Ok, then. Thanks!

Yeah SCR is a VERY scenic climb (and more so on the decent). But from experiance, if your lowest gear is a 39/21, don't even try to stay even remotely aerobic.

Interesting discussion about toughest hills...

here's a good tool if you want to look at route distances and climbs:

http://www.usatf.org/routes/map/

Good guess, I measure 6th line as~90m depending on where you stop.

I've never done in SCH (Collingwood - correct), what does it measure?

Bopper - 2007-03-22 9:15 PM From what I can tell... and using the route tracker on this web site (same as what you posted almost) SCR is 2.3 km with a 237 metre rise. From what I remember of that road... it's just a brutal non stop climb... almost didn't make it to the top in a camper one year...LOL... but the view is spectacular. You overlook Georgian bay the entire time. That's if you can spare the energy to look at it while you're climbing... LOL yes... the SCR is in Collingwood... just before you get to Blue Mountain Resort.

Actually, in its entirey it is closer to 5/6 km and a little more rise than that. I just did it on route tracker, made it public, but cant find it now. The thing to remember on that hill is that about halfway up you hit a plateau. You've reached the top of the ski hill and the scenic caves eco-center. But you still have a bit to go until the top of the escarpment.

65 degrees? Ouch. I only swam once in water that cold and it just took my breath away. Yowza!

Sorry to hear it dude.

I'll second the injuries suck comment. I've been there and done that. I was out for a year with a concussion once.

Hang in there.
