Does anyone know of any groups that do weekly openwater swims?  I know there is a group in Vancouver that swims in the Ocean at Kits Beach on Mondays and Thursdays at 6:30 pm.  But I would prefer a lake.

I sent the Coquitlam Tri club an email earlier today.  Apparently they do 2 weeknights plus Sunday mornings at Sasamat.  I'll post more details on this thread if I find out anything else.

You'll probably want a wetsuit for Sasamat...

phhhhhhhhhhhhht

i did say probably

I'll buy you dinner at the Well after a swim one night if you go w/o neoprene and can do all 3 legs and not be wishing for a wetsuit at any point.

my 3 legs?

I don't even know what that means...so you're probably making a safe bet.

As long as I'm in a life jacket when I do them...it shouldn't be a problem

Fine, fine, I admit that swimming in Sasamat in MAY will be cold. Probably also in June. Later in July and August when the weather's been nice...it's fantabulous. I'm sure you'd probably want the wetsuit for buoyancy as a long swim without a wetsuit would obviously be exhausting. I just Google Earthed the swim from the south beach across to the walkway thing and then back across to the dock straight across from the north beach and back to the south beach and it was something like 2000m. Definitely good practice!

Fine, fine...listen to the Doctor...

I found out the Coquitlam Tri Club (now Tri-Cities Tri Club) will be doing their swimming on Friday nights and Sunday mornings.  That doesn't work with my child custody schedule unless I want to pull a dingy like Dick Hoyt.

So it looks like I'll probably be doing Monday and Thurday nights in the yucky ocean with the Vancouver Open Water Swim Association.
