                    ![]() Swim
Comments: Pretty good swim: after my trouble in Guelph I wanted to stay in control all the way. Not very fast, but calm and smooth. Sighting was good- I followed the pack for the first 100-200m, and then used buoys after that. Shampoo in the goggles worked great as anti-fog. Swam until my arms touched- many were running by that point, but I thought it was too rocky on the bottom. This was a fast course (from the post race report) due to low current and a shallow run of 50m at the end. What would you do differently?: It went pretty well: I should be able to improve the weak time as I develop my stroke in the off season. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Terrible transition! I had the wetsuit to my waist on the run, but everything else in T1 was in slow motion. Suit stuck on feet a bit, socks were tough to get on, and I was slow tying shoes. What would you do differently?: Get elastic laces, practice running without socks. ![]() Bike
Comments: A good bike segment- I think I was first among MTB. Gave it all I had, but......... What would you do differently?: ....I had little left for the run. I have to consider pacing myself better on the bike if I am going to improve my run. Riding at ~170bpm is probably too high for an OLY. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Too slow since I didn't have to change shoes. Had to re-tie shoes. What would you do differently?: Elastic laces next year ![]() Run
Comments: Gel and drink at start, no other fluids. Did not have the legs after the bike. Tried to crank up the speed at several points, but the legs would not respond. Managed short sprint at end. Never found good rythym. What would you do differently?: Consider pacing on the bike to save some energy for the run. ![]() Post race
Warm down: None- took the kids to the beach Drank water and ate banannas & bagels What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim: stroke improvement needed T1: New laces, no socks Ride: Get a road bike Run: Consider a road bike OR slower pace on the bike to save something for the run. Event comments: Best race organization of the year. I will certainly return in 2005 Last updated: 2004-09-01 12:00 AM

Up at 6, shower & check gear. Muslix and banannas for breakfast, water and gatorade on the drive in. Didn't drink as much before this one as past races.
Stretching, run for about 1km.
