Hi there, everyone..... Sorry it took me so long to do this, I think I have been on this website for like a month now. I do admit to 'lurking' so I thought I'd just officially say 'hi'.

I am training for my first sprint tri in September. Actually, I start my offiical 'program' next week. I have done 5K's in the past - and it took everything I had to train and get to know how to run - and know how my body reacts to running. It was tough, but I realized that I work really well when I have a goal in sight. Last summer, a few friends and I participated in the Danskin women's tri, as a relay team. I only did the bike section but it was so cool to be out there, seeing women of every age, shape, size.... all so determined to finish the whole thing. We were all inspired and all decided to set the goal to each do our own tri in 2007.

So.... that's why I am here. I really feel good about this! I have been taking competitive swim lessons for the past few weeks since I have never swam competitively in my life. I only learned how to swim so that wouldn't drown - never did a lap in my life! Funny... I thought that running was hard. Then I started swimming. Its as hard as running, but you aren;t allowed to breathe when you need to. As if I needed that. BUT, its going well, I have a cool coach, and I am getting better every week. Ready to kick off my training program next week!

Also looking forward to meeting some new interesting people on BT.
Thanks!
Jen

PS- Can anyone name the originating move that my 'Subject' line comes from?

I was thinking the subject line was from 'Sympathy for the Devil', but that is a song, not a movie...

At any rate, welcome to the site. You'll find a lot of helpful, friendly, and supportive people here who will help you reach your goals!

Hey everyone, thanks for your welcomes. It's nice to know there's such good support out there!!

Carrie 1..... you got it right! It's a line from Austin Powers (the first one) - Dr. Evil was trying to be all scary and got caught up in his words.....

And.. BHannahs, are you referring to the Rolling Stones song? Very good tunes......

Have a good night, week, weekend!

welcome! i love your intro line - love austin powers.

i did danskin last year with my mom (66), her sister (60 the day of the race), and my two cousins. we all raced and it was an amazing experience - VERY CROWDED - but amazing. i think its a wonderful way for women to get into the sport.

the bike is the most important leg (although that is hotly debated from time to time), so you already have a great start. welcome to BT and feel free to ask lots of questions!
