Okay, I've been wanting to post this forever, but it was just too damn early. Since we're now just 2 1/2 weeks away, I figure it's close enough.
I'm inviting everyone doing the CapTex race to my place for a pre-race dinner on Sunday night. We did this last year and had 20 or so people there. With at least 36 BTers showing up as registered, we should top that this year.
- Show up at my house at about 6 p.m. on Sunday. Bike check-in for the Olympic race is from 2-5 and Sprint check-in is from 4-7. That should leave everyone plenty of time. Remember, bike check in is mandatory. This means there is NO EXCUSE for not showing up! You can't claim that you have to adjust your derailleur or lube your chain.
- I'm about 12 miles from the race site and it's pretty much all highway. It won't take you more than 15 minutes if you're right downtown, less than that from north, a little more from south.
- I've got a big back deck and back yard that overlooks the Bull Creek green belt. We've got great sunset views and the deer will probably be wandering through shortly after sunset. It's entirely possible that you'll see or hear some coyotes, too.
- I'll have a case or so of beer, some wine, and plenty of water and Gatorade. If you'd like something else, feel free to bring it along.
- I figure we'll stick with the plan from last year and make up a big batch of spaghetti, some fresh bread, salad, etc. and have a nice carb load meal at about 7 once everyone has a chance to arrive and meet and greet. If someone has different ideas, let me know.
- Everyone is welcome to stay as long as they want or until I kick you out.
I think last year things finally wound down around 10 or so.
- Spouses and significant others are definitely welcome.
- Let me know if you're bothered by dogs. I have an aging Golden Retriever who will be a psycho when people first get there. I don't think she would even know how to bite someone and she doesn't jump up, but she will be racing around and smacking you with her tail and if you put a hand within reach, she'll slobber it pretty good. If you bend over at all, she will flop on her back and you'll be obligated to scratch her stomach. Some people get freaked out and if that's the case, I'll be sure she stays inside.
- RSVP in the thread and PM me for address and directions!
If people insist on bringing something along
(dessert or whatever
), we'll figure it out in comments. I'm NOT requesting or requiring it. I offered my hospitality, so I intend to provide it.
This should be a great time. We had a really enjoyable evening last year where lots of people who had never met were able to get together for the first time. Everyone should feel totally welcome even if you're brand new to BT.
