Subject: How does the Couch-to-5k Program work?
I've been dividing the waling minutes in half and doing half before and half the time after the prescribed time for running. I was listening to the Triathlon Radio Podcast though, and he described it as dividing the times into sets where you do for example 2 minutes of walking and 4 minutes of running and repeat that five times to equal 30 minutes. I could not for the life of me figure out where his numbers were coming from when I looked at the charts! His method sounds easier, but I can't divide up the times. How is this supposed to work...(I was never good at fractions...)

Most of the time, if you are just starting to run, coaches will recomend that you mix up your running and your walking.  That way it's an easier transition on your body.  The actual plan doesn't specify for you to do that, but it's certainly an option.  I haven't listened to the podcast, but the person you were listening to may have been describing a workout that is farther along in the plan.  Are you doing the conservative version of the plan or the agressive?

Yes, both ways will work.  You can do ALL of the running in one block in the middle of the total minutes and split the remaining up before and after the run.  Or do some thing like a run 8minutes, walk 2 minutes...or even starting out, run 4 minutes, walk 2minutes.

It's individual though.  Whatever feels good.  You may want to initially go with a set of 'run/walk' like the 4minutes run to 2 minutes walk, repeat if your breathing is too labored or heart-rate is too high.

The agressive one. I'm not overweight or anything, I just want to get a good endurance base before I just dive right into Triathlon.
