Champion 26509 Sydney | Subject: Astana Team Thread Welcome to the Tour De France 2007. Your team, Astana, is home to possibly the strongest group of riders in the pro peloton in 2007. Several riders on the team roster could lead the team in stage racing including Eddie Mazzoleni, Andreas Kloden and Paolo Salvodelli. The Team leader for the Tour De France will be Kazakhstan rider Alexandre Vinokourov whose ability to attack and counter attack in a purely unpredictable fashion has been confusing the peloton for several years. Backed by a group of Kazakhstan business interests and named after the countries capital your team has both the firepower and passion to with the 2007 Tour De France. Your team line up is: 1. Apw0397 2. Bajapat 3.CathyD 4. Mattajw 5. Rodbirch 6. Tri3 7. Z-Dog Please introduce yourself below including the crucial information like name, stages committed, bike/bikes you ride/own and anything else you would like to tell your team mates. You will also need to nominate/select a Team Leader whose role will be to collect the stages committed for each rider and collect your stages ridden every Monday. The crucial information collected by the Team Leaders on Mondays will be number of stages ridden to date, and the time ridden, and types of sessions (flat/rolling, mountain or TT). Number of stages is what counts for team victory! Your stages must be logged in your BT Log for verification purposes, but you are responsible for reporting your weekly results to your Team Leader on Mondays, this is done by posting an update in your team thread in the challenges forum unless the team prefers another method. The first Monday for reporting will be 16th July, the first rest day of the Tour De France 2007. In a second I will attached to a post the excel spreadsheet to be used by the Team Leader for your team tracking, results should be collected by the Team Leader and sent to me on Tuesdays so I can get an challenge update post in the forum by Wednesday each week. The spreadsheet includes the details of any team members who have already committed to a number stages and the last date for changing this is 12 midnight your local time on July 6th Once the Team Leader is selected by the team could they please drop in and introduce themselves in the Team Leaders thread that I will be maintaining for any upcoming questions or queries. This is a team competition so please support your team mates with inspires, motivation and encouragement as well as pledge your allegiance in your sig line, log and even avatar! Good natured sledging and competition with the other teams is part of the fun so feel free to stir up a bit of friendly rivalry, Most importantly this is all about fun and you reaching your goals!!!! So Astana… time to get racing! Let the Tour begin!! Edited by kaqphin 2007-07-04 5:21 AM |

Master 2629 brummie land | Subject: RE: Astana Team Thread don't forget your halloumi:
Astana Monday July 2, 2007 Guardian The capital of Kazakhstan. The sponsor is a consortium of mainly oil companies put together by the government of the ex-Soviet state. Fondly and in no way patronisingly referred to as Team Borat. Tour heritage First appearance. They were absentees last year because several riders had connections to Puerto; once they'd been told to leave, the team did not have the minimum number required to race. Past controversies Astana have never fallen foul of the police or testers, but their Giro d'Italia leader Eddy Mazzoleni is currently getting heat from an oil-for-drugs investigation. Nothing has been proved. In the coffers £8.1m and, with £1m more, they'd have enough budget to film Borat II if they wanted to, which they probably wouldn't. The boss Belgian star (stop laughing) Walter Godefroot, who enjoyed classics success in the 70s, then nurtured Bjarne Riis and Jan Ullrich in the 90s. Team leader Laconic Alexandr Vinokourov never uses three words where one will do but, as he's the best instinctive racer with a subliminal awareness for the right moment to attack, and this is Le Tour and not an episode of Parkinson, who cares? Big Al shook Lance Armstrong in 2003 and won well in the 2006 Vuelta; at 33 he feels this is his last tilt at the Tour. He starts as favourite. Wild man of the saddle Andreas Kloden is the No2 to Vino, a conservative time-triallist but lacking in consistency. He was second in 2004, flopped in 2005, was third in 2006 to Floyd Landis (and is in contention for second depending on Landis's doping case) and left T-Mobile after a hissy fit over salary and status. The best stage racer of the spring, which bodes well here, but he's still No2. They'll be happy with . . . Overall victory for Vino or Klodi. Fans will paint on the road "Astana: pushbike heavyweights for make benefit of glorious Kazakh oil and railway concerns"; "In Vino veritas" William Fotheringham predicts Overall win is possible but, if they are as dominant as in last year's Vuelta, questions will be asked. If they were cheese... Halloumi Unlikely sounding concoction but has a fashionable following among those in the know. Recently arrived on the scene from pretty much nowhere and looks likely to prove surprisingly tough and durable. Won't fall apart and can be expected to keep its shape however hot things get. Extreme Veteran 475 Tampa, FL | Subject: RE: Astana Team Thread My Blade is several model years prior to yours. I believe it's a 2004 model, the last Blade frame that still had the yellow Litespeed decals. I bought it used with only 100 miles on it and looked brand new. People at the LBS were amazed at what perfect condition it was in. Got it for 50% of list. Nice wheels = ) Edited by Tri3 2007-07-05 11:52 AM |

Extreme Veteran 475 Tampa, FL | Subject: RE: Astana Team Thread Sorry to hijack the thread guys. I promise I will stop talking Litespeed after this. Z-dog looks like you got a really great deal, especially if the Zipp wheels are included in that cost. I paid the same as you ($3000) for my Blade. Like I said, it was ridden about 100 miles. Full Dura Ace components, T2 cobra carbon aerobars, Real Design carbon wheels. (Litespeed.jpg) Attachments ---------------- Litespeed.jpg (24KB - 37 downloads) |
