Subject: Links
Quick question.  When I want to attach a link to a thread I just copy and paste and see a long string like http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=83606&posts=7&highlight=chip&highlightmode=1#M887233.  I see other people who will attach links and they are short and have a name that take you to the link.  How do you do that?

Select the text you want to link from and the Link button in the toolbar will become active:  Link Click this and enter the URL in the box labeled Link URL.

Okay, that did not work.  I copied a link to this thread and pasted it.  I select the little chain and gave it a name but the link is still long.  Am I just being stupid.

I'm not sure what you mean by "copied a link to this thread and pasted it" and "gave it a name", but I think you may be confusing the url and linked text.

  • Type the text that you want to appear in your message.
  • Highlight it
  • Click on the Link button
  • In the box that appears, enter the URL of the page you want to link to in the box labelled "Link URL".

Hooray, I figured it out.  I was doing it backwards.  I was pasting the link and then trying to magically make it turn to something shorter.  I appreciate your help.
