Biking home from work (a quick ~11 mile ride), I had an accident. It was drizzling and I hit--what else?--railroad tracks. I thought I was holding the bike pretty steady, but sure enough, my wheel slipped right in and off I flew.

I'm sore and bruised--not in too bad of shape.

But, OH, my bike!! The back wheel and gear mechanism is bent all to hell.

I am one sad woman... and come tomorrow, one broke one as well.

ICK!!! sorry to hear that.. but the good thing is.... it is cheaper to replace your rim than it is your noggin! Glad to hear that you are ok! Jack

oh my! I am sending a boatload of sympathy your way! But like Jack said, better your bike (and even your wallet) than your noggin. I hope you're ok.

Sorry to hear that! I had my first wet ride on my new road bike last week and was so nervous. Especially with rain blowing in my face sideways! I'm glad to hear you are not hurt too badly though.

Most of us have been there and the rest of us will be there. I feel your pain. Don't let it get to you. At least you have an excuse to take it easy for a week or two.

woke up this morning... sore all over!!

but as a better mind than I once said "battered and bloody but unbowed."

i took my beautiful bike to the shop this morning and the man who received it, sadly shook his head. like a doctor coming out of surgery with bad, bad news.

enough! as you say, my noggin is still intact.

thanks for your sympathy, everyone.

Dana,

As one who is 17 months in recovery from a "simple" bike accident- get yourself checked out. Take a few days off of training, please. A bike [as expensive as it is] is a bike is a bike... you can replace that, but you only get one body. Good luck, great recovery- and you have my empathy!

That stinks Dana, and I'm sorry about your bike. I did that with a car once (when I was 17) and was lucky to walk away, so I'm glad to hear that you're not hurt.

something to think about.....your homeowner's policy (if you have one, maybe renter's) may cover the bike. Of course if it was an inexpensive bike and you have a high deductible a claim would be a waste of time. I have a friend who's cracked frame was covered by their homeowner's policy to the tune of over 3K.

Again, thanks for your sympathetic posts! Just got a call from my bike shop. Damage is about $250 for my $950 uninsured bike.

It's a bummer.

But man, the bruise on my butt is the size of a saucer and SUCH a pretty color!

Ack! I'm sorry to hear about the accident but glad you're okay...

stupid question but..."you can get bike insurance?????"
may not be a bad idea...esp. with my track record on bikes.

I hit and expansion joint, and it caused me to go over the front of the bike! Ended up with a broken arm that they wouldn't put in a cast and made me lay off of training for several weeks and then come back in a very limited way. Glad you were not hurt badly. Bikes can be repaired a little quicker than we can. Hang in there!
