MrsUSMC - 2007-11-11 11:31 AM 4.8 gain! Eek!

Think of it this way - It's muscle gain (muscle weighs more than fat)

And if this is indeed the case this it is great b/c your body fat % is dropping and your RMR (resting metabolic rate) is increasing - now you will be burning more calories at rest.

Just keep training and eating healthy!

Now, now...muscle does not weigh more then fat, it's just that the same weight in muscle takes up less space then the same weight in fat (1 lb=1 lb)

Remember, a weight loss journey isn't just about what the scale says.   We don't have our weights displayed on our foreheads (thank God).  Other people will measure your success based on what they see...if you a re leaner, taughter, more pulled together, then you are a success.

Okay, you got me there (a cubic inch of muscle will weigh more than a cubic inch of fat - how's that? )

And you're right... Often times from a trainer point-of-view, you try to keep the client OFF the scales and ask them how their clothes are fitting.  The scale is merely one of many different measurements that can be used in tracking the progress of weight loss and training.

Afterall, isn't that why we're weighing in only once a week, you don't want to become obsessed by the scale.

MUCH better   (that is just one statement that always irked me...I'm a science geek...can't help myself.)

As my WW leader put it, the scale is just feedback.  You need to determine BEFORE you get on the scale if you've had a good week, you can't let the scale determine that for you.

Room for someone new? I'm not sure about the protocol here...I've been around BT for a few years but never participated in forum.

I'm a 42 y/o working mother of 3 (2 teens and a 3rd-grader) who tag teams parenting w/ a spouse who works nights. I had a dream of doing a tri before I was 40, and lost 70# and learned how to swim so that I could (and did) accomplish that goal. 18 mos ago I had surgery on my knee and have never quite gotten over myself enough to get back into a good routine. Doing it on my own w/o accountability isn't working, so I'd like to try this.

Thanks,
Carolyn

That's a good way to think of things. I am so looking forward to next week when I get my RMR done! I'm going to switch to core at that point as well, so it will be easier to count calories and at the same time, keep a good focus on what to eat. And I figure I earn enough APs with my workouts that I'll be fine eating non core stuff between that and my WPA.

I had a really good weekend! I did my swim class yesterday and I'm so sore today! We did drills up and down the pool. I learned that I have a really weak kick and spent a lot of time working on that, so my butt is SORE! I am really struggling to figure out how to improve my kick though, anyone know of a book or page that would be good to help with that aspect?

I had a bad Friday and Saturday and the scale proved it.

Weighed in this morning at 162.6.  Almost two lbs last week.  I think a lot may be due to work stress.  Though, I did go to a wedding last night and didn't have any cake or sweets, just dinner.  Matter's fact, I think I only had four pieces of candy all week last week.  That's pretty good for me.

Is there anywhere else that I should actually be posting my wieght?

Hey there everyone. Gosh so much happened on the thread over the weekend I am not sure where to begin! LOL
Letita- congratulations on your goal!!! That is AWESOME!!!
Terri- it is a new week, and I am sure you will have a great loss this week! You are doing a tremendous job.

Welcome Carolyn, this is a great group and everyone is very supportive!

Ok on a note about the LOG. PLEASE check it to make sure I have your weight as of THIS WEEK correct even if you have not WI in a while. There are some people that we have not heard from in a while so I have been leaving theirs blank. If you are new or just need a refresher on how we keep the log here goes. If you want to participate in th log that we have on the thread please post your weight and gain or loss on the day you WI or during that week sometime and I will add it to the log. Thanks again, and I will attach the info I have as of today below.
I hope that everyone has a great week! Jana

Thanks Jana.

I think my weight was off by a week.  The 4th being my first WI was 164.4, then this morning (11/11) I was 162.6.

I gave it a try at editing the spreadsheet, not sure if I could or not.  But I don't knwo if it saved or not.

Thanks for all of your work on the spreadsheets, it's appreciated.

Ok I have fixed and updated your info Kimmitri408 and heather. Thanks. Also we start a new log week every sunday the same day we start the new thread for the week.

YUM QUICK LUNCH!!!!!
I have been addicted to this since I started eating them.
I take one package of salad greens any kind you like, add a chicken breast, grapefruit or pear slices, 2 tbsps of goat cheese crumbles and 1/4 cp of the following dressing.

Dressing:
juice from 2 lemons
2 tsps dijon mustard
2-3 tbsps balsamic vinegar
2 tsps olive oil
salt and pepper and sometimes some minced garlic

I have even been making the dressing ahead of time for like 2-3 days and leaving it at the office then just bringing the greens, fruit and chicken breast to work for a quick toss together.

Any fruit like orange, pear, apple, grapes, strawberries, heck I have even tried kiwi in it. It is very figure friendly. On etools the point count came to between 6-8 depending on the fruit and the quantity of the cheese.
thanks, Jana

jana, that sounds really good! and even better..very easy! has anyone tried glop before? it's one of my favorite meals on ww...core or flex...and really easy. glop stands for get lots of protein...in case anyone wondered. it's the following:

1 lb ground turkey ( i like to put some evoo in it while browning to get in the healthy oil)
1 16 oz container ff cottage cheese
26 oz jar salsa
1 cup rice (i use brown)

it's really REALLY good and I eat it on lettuce or with crackers (like a dip).

Hmm...my VERY beginning was 244. After a steady decline, I've been on a bit of a roller coaster for a long time (155-170). Last WI (Fri) was 172, topping my "I'll never go over this weight again" weight of 170. I'm only 5' 3'', so that's not where I need to be either. I never wanted it to be about the numbers, but they are a signal of what's going on. Goal is a healthy me who can do whatever my active family sets out to do.

Today is a new day!

Thanks, Jana! And thank you for updating the spreadsheet (goodness, I'm so glad someone can make excel do all that fancy stuff!).

Reaching the healthy zone does feel like a victory. I ended up taking quite a few liberties over the weekend, since it just felt like something to celebrate. But I'm trying to get back on track now for the last few pounds between me and my real goal.

I also start training this week for the ING Georgia half-marathon (March 30). I've discovered a very cool training program which requires 3 runs a week, so I'll still be able to swim and do some biking (when the weather allows).

Viva!

afternoon everyone! i hope everyone is having a good one. i bought some bike shoes online yesterday for spinning class. my feet get really numb in class, so i decided to get some. i found some on clearance for pretty cheap, so i figured they would be a good intro pair for classes. i also fell in love with a bike. i don't know much about them, but i found a gorgeous deep read trek 7 that is beautiful. i think i'm in love with a bike, lol. i'm mentally debating buying it. they have 90 days layaway, so i don't even have to pay the whole thing now. it's $400 (b/c it's last year's model)...i guess that's a good price? anyway, i'm really debating putting the down payment on it and just paying on it every pay check so i don't have to charge it. i don't need the bike right now anyway, so if i pay it off by mid feb, that's perfect to start riding outside.

my only advice would be to see if you can verify that it's a good fit for you.  unfortunately I found out the hard way and bought a bike that's too big

but what a good price!
