Pre-race routine:

Joe and I woke up at around 10 after 5, got up had our bagel w/ peanut butter, filled our water bottles and heated up the breakfast tacos Joe made the night before. We left the house at 6:30 to head for Kingwood We ate the tacos right before we got to the race site.
Event warmup:

We grabbed our goody bags and rushed back out to the jeep to crank up the heater. At 7:30 we headed for the start and chatted with Cliff, Tammy, and Julie. Tammy took a couple of pics. She couldn't race, since she was sick.

Comments:

The first two loops went really well. After the first one, we decided to strip some of the outer layers. Our bag was right there, so it was no problem. I'm sure we lost 5 to 10 min, but it was worth it. I also applied more body glide. Another thing that took some time was we got together for a pic with Cliff, his wife was waiting with her camera. We ran that first loop with Cliff, but then he went on while we stopped to change. The second loop was good, too. I think we had 2:25 at the 13.1 mark. On loop 3 Joe was suffering, so I waited for him at the aid stations. At one point I massaged the cramps out of his calves. On loop 4, we were both suffering, big time. We walked some, and were being passed by walkers as we ran, that's how slow we were. We just wanted to be done so bad!
What would you do differently?:

The only thing that I would change is that, if we hadn't had injuries, we needed to get our run distance up more. We were both ok for the first 20 miles, it was the last 6.2 that did us in. Considering the injuries we had, I think we did well. We finished!
Post race
Warm down:

Cliff got a picture of us, and we took another with him. We got our finisher monkey and medal, walked around a little then sat down in the grass. We got up and went into the clubhouse. Joe started feeling very sick, dizzy and dry heaving. I got him some cold wet towels, sprite, and chex mix. The towels and sprite did the trick and he was much better. We then ate a little of the pizza (yuck Cici's), a couple cookies, and some water. We headed home right after we ate.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training, injuries.

Event comments:

This was a fun race, very different from Houston, small and friendly. I enjoyed it in a very different way. I'm not sure whether I'll do this one next year or Houston. The lack of crowds was nice:)

Performance: Average
Course: Mostly flat with some inclines here and there. It was four 6.55 mile loops. I enjoyed the course more than I thought I would. It was all wooded and the section around the lake was nice. There were plenty of water stations, at least every 1.5 miles. They also had protein bars, chex mix, crackers, powerade, and coke. The volunteers were great, very friendly and helpful.

Thanks, everyone  I love you guys!  My goal for my next marathon is to be much stronger.   I never trained beyond a 17 mile run and that was a huge mistake.  Have a great year you guys, I hope to see you at the races!
