Yikes,

Went out for a 13-15 miler today and did about 12. My Heart Rate shot up to 170-180 at a 10:30 pace. I don't think I am quite as recovered as I thought.

Hey All,

So, back in the 12 week window for an IM. My next race is an Olympic, which I won't likely taper for much. Should still be fun.

Went for a run this morning. Was feeling sluggish from bad diet the last two days, but felt great after the run. Can't forget the value of just getting out there!

Wheee,

Had a good training week last week. Got in a decent amount of running and biking. Not too much swimming though.

Had a great ride on Sunday!

Getting tired from signing up for too many things when excited. Looking forward to winding down my season after Cozumel.

So,

What has everyone been up to? Season over? Winding down? Getting ready for a fall run?

Finished my second HIM on Sunday and now I'm off for a bit. I really struggled the last month before the race to stay motivated (my mind just boggles at the thought of how much you must be training Eli with IMNY and IMCoz so close together), had a bit of a breakdown Sunday night when I got home and seriously thought about throwing in the triathlon towel completely. I think I'm just going to lay low for a bit, heal a couple of niggling injuries and see if I can find my mojo somewhere...best of luck to all for the rest of the year.

Congrats on the HIM. I know what you mean about the motivation.

I really enjoy the training with friends, and racing 2 or 3 times a year. However, the mental toll of getting ready and finding time for training is wearing.

I think that after Cozumel, I am going to try to NOT sign up for something for a while. That doesn't always work well, as my wife also like signing up for races, or signing me up for races.

Laying low and training with friends on their schedule is a great way to stay fit without the headache of sticking to a plan.

Stay Healthy!

Hello,

Looking to join your mentor group. I am an out of shape, overweight 47yo female. I have done a couple sprint triathlons about 7yrs ago. I ran a 1/2 marathon a about 5 yrs ago. Last year did a 90 mile bike race. I have done nothing since. I am a RN and work full time.  Was watching the Ironman Wisconsin and got the bug to do one,(that is what I say now). Hope fully by the time I am 50yo. Looking for some mentors and guidence.

What would be the best program to start with comming off the couch? I am joining the local YMCA in Oct., and taking a swim class that starts in mid Oct. The last two days I have started to walk/run for 2 miles.

Looking forward and am in AWE of all you Ironman!!

Thanks

Krista, welcome aboard. Things have been trailing down here a bit, but you are welcome to join us.

I am still training for a few more events this year, including:

Escape to Miami Olympic- Sept. 23

Ironman Cozumel November 23 (I think)

Disney Marathon Jan 13

As far as plans, I have heard that the couch 50 5K programs are nice. However, my first bit of advice is to start with consistency. Spend 3-6 weeks getting in the habit of working out at least 30 minutes 4-5 times a week.

I would say run 3 times, bike once or twice and swim once or twice. You can always do bricks if you can't work in the extra workouts.

Once you are consistent, set a 3-5 month goal, like a race or an event that will help keep you motivated.

Since you are in WI, you need to have a good plan on how to stay consistent over the winter, when your outdoor events will be limited, unless you ski and snowshoe.....

Jennifer, Don't throw in the towel!!!...No NO no. You are my motivation!!! With just joining this group and am reading your blogs and with the help of ELi, since I am just getting started.  I need to find my mojo also and hoping to find it with my journey to Ironman. One step at a time.

Thanks for the tips Eli. I will follow your percription. Wondering, since I am comming off the couch? What do you think of these races next year

Half Marathon in April 2013

Olympic tri end of July 2013, (thinking Half Ironman in 2014 and then Ironman in 2015(hopefully)

Race around the Lake Mid August 2013 ( having a competition with son, I have to beat him around the lake)

That sounds very doable. The key thing is to not get so excited when you reach new levels of fitness that you sign up for too much!

I find that it isn't the training that gets me, but the planning and thinking about training that is draining.

So, anything new in late season training?

Anyone have a 1/2  or full marathon on the table for the fall?

My training is about to get a shock, as I am traveling again. Should be interesting. I guess I will double up on the runs until I get back.

Hey All,

So, this week, I am trying to ramp my training back up and aside from eating just about anything I wanted on Sunday and Monday, I have been eating well.

Today, I woke up STARVING.

Has this ever happened to anyone? I didn't skimp on eating last two days, but I feel starved.

Is it too late to join this mentoring program?  If so, do you know when the next one will start?

Thanks!  Laughing

Hey All,

Rough week of travel for me, but at least I did manage to run a few times.

I have been burning some midnight oil due to travel, but hoping to get some rest today and tomorrow and get a solid ride and run this weekend.

8 weeks out from my last "BIG" race of the season.

I really need not to get so excited when I get fit!

Hey All,

So, finally managed a "Full" weekend of training, and it kicked my rear!

Ran 14 on Saturday. By mile 9, I was feeling a little rough. Went out a bit fast and probably didn't drink enough water. Went for a swim after and was cramping so bad that I had to get out.

On Sunday, I rode 70. Had the training tires on and was with a group of friends that ride fast. It made for a rough last 20, but still good training.

I am hoping my fatigue and suffering was related to lack of sleep. Still excited about the upcoming race, but a little nervous as well.

How were your weekends?

Whew,

Big weekend including a decent 17 mile run last night.

I have a bit of a sniffle today, so I am debating whether or not to swim. I may skip it to see if it helps the cold that is brewing in my head.

Hey All,

Where Y'at?

Had a great week last week, this week is going pretty well too. Legs are a bit tight, so I have been re-acquainting myself with the foam roller.

Planning to get in 90 minutes on the bike tonight and then some swimming and maybe biking in Friday.

Hey All,

Another big week for me last week. I have the Marine Corps Marathon this Sunday, so am planning on more swimming and biking this week and next.

Then....off to travel. Still not sure how the travel will affect the training while I am in Japan, but it should be OK.

How are you all?

Wow,

I didn't realize it has been so long!

So, I finished MCM and had a great PR and felt wonderful.

Last weekend I did IM Cozumel and didn't have as great a day...

Here is my race report:

Well, I am back at it. Ran 20 minutes today and felt pretty good. Some IT band soreness.

Looking forward to some unstructured fun for a few weeks.

Hey All,

So....the season is winding down, if not over.

Fall marathons have come and gone, and maybe you are starting to think about what comes next.....

So, what do you think you would want to do next year?

What would you do differently?

What races do you still think about?
