oweiss - 2008-05-07 6:21 AM Got my typical Tuesday gym day in yesterday.  4 miles on the treadmill, weights, stretch, swim and then a relaxing 10 minutes in the sauna.  Would this count as a brick since it is multiple disciplines even though the run/swim were not back to back?

On a happy note, yesterday was teacher appreciation day and the Chipolte's in the area were offering free burritos.  So I had one for lunch and then half of one for dinner and the other half this morning for breakfast.

gillyfev - 2008-05-07 10:46 AM

10 minutes should be the absolute maximum time between disciplines for it still to count as a brick.

If you think about it, the purpose of brick training is to help prepare you for completing all three discplines consecutively on race day. And on race day (I'm guessing) you're not going to sit in transition for 10 minutes...

So while 10 minutes is the limit, I'd encourage people to try and keep their transition time down to a minimum. It does make a huge difference to your race performance.

cheers!
Gill

Nice job.   That is a cute avatar. Is that your dog?

I thought it looked like a sea lion, I hope you don't have one as a pet.

No, I don't have a dog. Just found the picture online. I don't "have" a sealion, but I did name a local one. There is a male that hangs out in the marina I live on. I see him almost every time I kayak or run...even occasionally on the bike or OW swimming. I call him Buju!

I like that name!

runrachierun - 2008-05-02 9:30 AMHi everyone! I'm really excited for this challenge. This is my very first season, and I am one month and five days away from my first sprint event. The problem is getting me on my bike...I am going to try to start commuting to work, but that is a scary thought in downtown Seattle. I need to do something to chip away at those miles!Good luck to all!Rachel

good luck! what race and where?

Thats all well and good, cuz you gotta keep moving. However trying to get a sports bra on when transitioning from swimming to biking should count, cuz you gotta jump up and down and do the squirm dance!

Hey Julie my blog is up again...can you not see it!?

Ladies and Gentlemen. I have some exciting news.

TADA!!! I bought a NEW BIKE with my STIMULUS CHEQUE!!!!!  I am ONE happy Camper.   My husband and I also reserved a smart car. We won't get it till next year however. Gosh what a day. Boy do I feel so much better.  I opted out of my swim and run though as time just got too late. So I apologize for that. I WILL make it up on my days off so don't worry

Isn't she lovely.  $1100 worth but I got her for a measly $800.  I am overjoyed and anxious to ride her.  She needs a name too!!!!!   I'm a HUGE Harry Potter fan so I was thinking of calling her something in relation to that.  OH glee. Excuse me while I obnoxiously clap my hands over and over.

At the Danskin Tri last year. I felt quite unwell. Combination of cramps and going out on the Friday before the race. I sat and looked around for a good 10 minutes too.

OH she is fast.  She needs a touch of colour though so I'm thinking of redoing the bars in red and getting a red seat. Just to be different.  My cycle clothes are red, black and grey you see.  Totally matching. WEEHOO!!

It would look good with red.  And your devil hat!  She's purty, congrats!  Can't wait for our Saturday ride!!!!

I managed a brick tonight, at least I am calling it one, it was bike then swim. Kind of like a tri in reverse.  I posted some new photos today, official race ones in my Mt. Rainier duathlon album and a bunch in my blog of the new doggie and my kids.  So if you are bored, have a gander.

Scotty, time to practice  your transitions....you should not be taking that long. That will kill your tri time! I found some great videos on you tube...let me know if you want me to help you find a few....this will help you speed your transition time...this will help your finishing time by a lot! and you will see much improvement in your results. What race did you just do...and is it really hot? is that why...one thing that may help is to get a racers belt that holds your bib number and also to get the laces for your tennis shoes that you do not have to tie.....

OBTW...I love the new picture of your dd....she is precious! and has already grown a bunch since we were on the last team together!

heading over there now....I just rescued a boston terrier off of craigslist for my brother...and I am babysitting him this week...he is a hoot...when you go to bed he crawls under the sheets and goes to the bottom of the bed...and sleeps like a pup! my dog Kali is soo jealous...she has a bed at the bottom of our bed and although she is welcome to sleep with us on the bed for a short time, she is a lab and big! I guess I have been gone for a while...had not heard about this doggy...when did you get it?
