30 min run, 15 sec pick-ups at 5K pace.  I love taper.  Gonna try to carbo load again today (70% carbs).  Only made it to 62% yesterday.

On the menu:  Oatmeal, triscuits, fruit and tomato juice...

Just eat straight Spaghettios all day.

Rule??? With over 2000 posts in that thread the only thing the Dark Arts rule is flapping their lips! Do any of you actually run or do you just spend all day posting? The Horseman are going to gallop away with the victory this month!

pitt83 - 2008-10-08 4:47 AM Outdoor sports are meant to be outdoors. No trainers, spinning, treadmills. Get some clothing, lose the iPod and get outside where you belong! Experience some un-recycled air! PS: I'll allow the pool, but that's the extent of it! Now get outside!

Oh, I'm an outdoors gal all the way.  I've only ever joined a climbing gym and that was for winter climbing, quit each spring/summer

And what's an Ipod?

But I do love the variety of an outdoor run. The wind in my face, barking dogs at 5am, and the women's fitness bootcamp that meets at the park on Wednesday morning.

When I had  my first baby, a group of moms and I would walk regularly.  We accidently discovered the boys track/crosscountry running route... and kept walking that for a while.  yummy.  ok, ok, they are 15-18 years old and we were all breastfeeding new moms, but maybe that's what makes it less creepy, worn out old bags of mommyhood   hmmmm

and now, good morning horsies!

I got outta bed and ran 3 miles (well, turns out it was 2.95) but all at 10m pace.  Hoooray for me!   I set my watch for a 15 minute beep and just ran until it beeped, then turned around and did the same route back home, minus the last block which I wrapped the opposite way, for, as it turned out, a smidge less distance.

I love my consistent pace!!

Uh...what's considered freezing?  You need to come out to MN and run the Securian Frozen 5K/half marathon with me in January.

What's not to like? A full meal for 79 cents.

Sure it kinda smells like puke and you can never get all the noodles warm enough without scorching half of them, but it's a hearty meal. Especially if you get the ones with cut up hot dogs in it. Yummy.

Yeah, that would have ooked me out a bit at that age. Seeing one of the most perfect creations being used for nourishment rather than entertainment.

I had the pleasure of drafting a garbage truck on my bike. Great speed, bad odors. Call it a tradeoff I guess.

Yowza, that doesn't sound fun. Coldest run I can remember was 10 degrees a few years ago, which is pretty much unheard of here in Texas (both the temperature and some idiot actually running in that temp). Got lots of strange looks from people in their cars, but I had fun with it.

So how cold is the Securian race?

I bought some new trail runners today. I took them out for a good run - 12.33 miles. The route had elevation gain of about 1500 feet or so. Lots of loose gravel/dirt, some singletrack. I just sorta took my time as it's easy to twist an ankle in that stuff. I saw several little snakes here and there sunning themselves in the middle of the trail. That will end real soon as the colder weather gets here, but it keeps me on the alert while running.

Looks like everyone is making good progress. Keep running horses!

Now there's a reason to run on the dreadmill. I hate snakes.

Depends.  Last 2 years it's been around 17 degrees.  The year before we had 20 mph winds, so that would've been a windchill close to 7 degrees.  Yeah, we're nuts, but we get bragging rights...

We're nuts here too. We have a whole series of winter races that are often in very cold temps and on ice/snow covered roads and trails. Another race has the slogan, "Rain, Snow, or 20 below". I don't recall it ever being 20 below during a race, but wind chills may have pushed it real close. I've done a half marathon on a snow covered trail while it was snowing hard. There is actually a kind of peaceful feeling when running in the snow. I can't say I really enjoy the cold, but it doesn't keep me from running outside unless it's just brutal. I'm sure the winter running gear will be coming out soon.

These were just harmless little snakes that were only about twice the size of a night crawler worm - about a foot long at most. Nothing to worry about. I just don't like to step on them when I'm running because it could kill them.
