My goal is to be back to normal training by the end of next week! May have to water run for a bit until my knee calms down. Feeling confident that I will come back and see you all in CDA but the comeback road is a little longer than I would like. what doesn't kill you makes you stronger... and it will make the finish line sweeter too |

Champion 7553 Albuquerque, New Mexico | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread 8 weeks to race day!! About 5 or 6 weeks of big volume and 2-3 weeks of taper between now and the starting line. Swimming is good (volume is a little lighter than planned, but not too far off) How about everyone else? |

Okay, I'm behind where I wanted to be, but swimming is doing great, biking is okay, running is well behind where I need to be. I'm doing as much as I can, it will be what it will be.

Expert 1207 Liberty Lake, WA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread 8 weeks I hope that's enough time to pull it all together. Swimming - I can not swim right now. I hope to get back in the pool by the end of next week. Running - My long run this week was a little over 30 (minutes not miles). It went ok but my run endurance is shot. Biking - It is starting to come back. My longest ride has been 4.5 hour, but it hurt at the end. This weekends rides felt good, starting to ride agressive again. Need to work on endurance. |

Pro 4507 Simpsonville, SC | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread 8 weeks and I'm happy with my swimming and biking. Swimming is going great. Doing several 3500+ workouts per week with no ill-effects. Biking is going well with one century under my belt and numerous 80+ rides. Will top out with a 120 miler. The run is another story. I am going Galloway all the way. My hip flexor will not tolerate straight running. So I'm up to 6.2 miles for my long run. (Strained the hip flexor during a Feb. half mary) Hoping to get up to 20 miles before the big day. Lots of ground to cover, wish I was 100 percent healthy, but it is what it is. Can't wait to meet as many BTers as possible in Idaho! Pam |

Veteran 297 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread excited! 8 weeks and I just got my new bike, thats a step in the right direction! Get fit and set up on Tuesday so hopefully I'll get my first ride in this week. Swim- no worries, will be just fine Bike- Have gotten in several 80+ mile rides, 1 century. I would like to get some more real long rides in and do more bridge repeats during the week. I might be spending more time on the bike upcoming due to my injuries from the crash, maybe it will help me be a stronger rider.... Run- was doing fantastic, put in a 3:22 marathon in february, then I got hit by the car. The inferior tip of my femur is bruised and the joint tissue is inflamed right now. MD says I can run, but I'm erring on the conservative side and going to hit some water running for two weeks, wait for the visible bruising and pain to decrease and then see if I can get back. I think its 50/50; 50% that I'll be back running with no issues in 1-2 weeks, 50% that it will nag me all the way until ironman and that I may have to water run until ironman. Trying to prep myself for either scenario... I have a sprint may 16th that I really don't want to miss out on. its all wait and see right now. mixed emotions.... I'll try to post pics of my new ride soon! good luck to everyone in these final weeks!! |

Elite 4235 Spring, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Ahh! No more reminders! I like living in my own little world where I still have forever to train!
Swim: My weakest event, I think I'm almost to the point that I'll be able to finish the 2.4 feeling like it was a warm up. It won't be fast, but it won't hurt my bike or run either. Bike: Making big improvements here. As long as I pace myself, I should have a strong bike. Run: Maintaining decent fitness. Ran a 1:27 this weekend for the Nashville 1/2 Mary, so as long as I pace the bike well, the marathon should be good to go. It's getting hot here in TN...finally! |

Expert 839 Portland, OR | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Pam - I did the Galloway method for CDA the last 2 years and it worked great. I never did a training run longer than 16 miles (and I'd never run a marathon before my first IM) so I wouldn't worry if you don't make it to 20 miles for your long run. Since you're doing the run/walk your legs should be able to hold up well into the marathon if you come off the bike feeling strong. One of the best feelings for me at CDA was being a BOP'er and literally blazing past people with my run/walk intervals in the last 2 hours because I'd paced well and planned the walk breaks Have fun - see you out there! |

Out of curiosity, what were your run/walk intervals? I'm training with 4/1, 5/1 and 7/1 right now. That makes me feel so much better that your longest run was 16. I've never done a marathon before, either. Using pain as my guide for when to cap the distance. |

New user 2 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread awal1 - 2009-04-22 5:12 PM AndrewMT - 2009-04-22 4:47 PM I won't be up there, but I'd love to hear your impressions of the course when you're done! x2. However, when she screams about the "mountains" and "terrain", remember she rides in pancake flat New Orleans. I'm back! And there was no screaming OR crying... it went great! The bike and run courses are really nice. The scenery is beautiful. The run course is basically flat the whole way. There's one hill at the end of the out-and-back loop that will be challenging but definitely doable. I was SO happy with the bike course. It is challenging for sure, but nowhere near as bad as I feared. I counted at least 7 SCR climbs, and went down to 1st gear on about half of them. I stood up towards the end of the big hill by the lake (I think it's called The Wall?) but the rest of the course I was able to do all seated climbs. There are lots of hills, but the steep ones aren't too long and the long ones aren't steep. And most of them have downhills after so you can spin your legs and recover a little. The beginning and end of the course (heading out of and back into town) are flat, so you get a little breather between the first and second loops. The roads I found most challenging were English Point Rd (that's where "The Wall" is), Rimrock, and Hudlow. Dodd road also had 1 or 2 pretty tough climbs. The hills look HUGE and STEEP when you're far away, but when you get up close they're not so bad. And all this is coming from the world's biggest hill-wuss, so about 99% of you will find it easier than I did! I'm still a little terrified since it's my first IM (and my first marathon), but after seeing the course and the town, I'm really getting excited now! For my training, I'm up to: swim- 3700 yard long swim (will get 10300 yards total this week) ride- 86 mile long ride (will do 100 on Sat) run- 17 mile long run (will do 18 on Sun) |

Expert 839 Portland, OR | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread My intervals were 3/1 - the reason I did this is that I found if I did 4/1 or even 5/1 I was running too fast during the run parts and I knew I'd fatigue too quickly during the marathon. I wanted to be able to finish the marathon comfortably since I had no idea what anything past 16 miles would feel like. For IM #1 I stuck with the 3/1s throughout and kept a pretty even pace on both the run and walk segments. IM #2 I felt really good with about 5 miles to go and started pushing the pace harder and harder on the run segments. I still took walk breaks but they were speed walks cause I was really moving. I had knee surgery in 2005 so I'm always very careful with run volume and the run/walk worked awesome for me |

I'd take those totals.
I had a week of recovery after the 50-miler and a workweek that seriously intruded on training time. |

We get spoiled at IM WI with their humungous banquet hall at Monona Terrace. Is seating an issue in the CDA tent? Edited by Birkierunner 2009-05-01 1:07 PM |

1 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread The tent is quite large (but it is a tent). It gets very crowded with people standing around the edges for the program. It gets somewhat better during the athletes meeting when some folks leave but it is still crowded. It is very similar to IMWI which, as I recall was full with people standing as well. People start waiting in line maybe an hour before the dinner and the line gets long(maybe a block, block & 1/2. ) |
