First time back in the pool for me since my tri in August (I know I know) but as I said I really needed to learn how to run.  It wasn't as I anticipated which was nice!  Got 900m in in about 20 minutes with part of that being drills and kick so I am pretty happy for the first time back.

Heading to the gym in a little bit here (as soon as hubby gets home) but in the meantime, to ward off my choc attack from going any further than it already has, I did 5 sets (14,18,14,14,23) of push ups!

 That's a good idea.

I made it in today and did weights & a ride.  It felt fine at the time but I ended up taking an hour & a half nap in the afternoon.  When I woke up my lungs were burning a bit as they have been the past couple of nights.  So instead of going to the pool tomorrow I'm going to give them a rest.  As much as I want to be I'm just not back 100% yet.

HA,HA,HA,HA...That's totally what it was ~ a choc brick!   When I feel my eating (especially sugary foods) getting out of control, I try to break myself away and do something positive!!

Swim class and a run on the indoor track at the Y yesterday.  Turns out the tiny little indoor track was kind of fun (21 laps = one mile to give an idea of scope).  There was a "Hip-Hop" class going on in the center part that was comprised of mostly older, heavy-set women but boy, could those girls move!!!!  It was great entertainment. Much better than running on the dreadmill.

When I was in college there was an elevated track around a "gym" that often had aerobic type classes in it.  Some of those hip-hop style classes were hilarious to watch.  Senior citizens and very overweight black women shakin their groove things was a sight to see. Running while those classes were in session certainly took your mind off the monotony of running a 1/20th mile track.Laughing

I think some of those same people were in this class!  I actually enjoyed watching them get funky.  Once the class was over, it was kind of boring.

I have been tweaking the set-up on my tri bike.   Ohhhhhhh what a difference.   I am actually enjoying my time in the saddle.   A good set-up is critical.   I've heard this for years but now - I'm truly aware of what this means.

Don't be afraid to put your bike on the trainer and make some adjustments.   There are some good videos on youtube about bike set up.  I'm becoming a youtube junkie on some of this training stuff.  Check it out if you get the chance.

ALSO, B.T. has some good videos on "how to change a tire," "yoga," etc.

I totally agree.  When I got a new road bike this fall I was amazed at how millimeter adjustments can make a difference.  The first ride on it was painful for 2 days afterward.  Luckily the bike shop owner is a great tech.  He had me on the bike on a trainer in the shop.  I told him what hurt, he made what seemed like such minor adjustments.  Now I love my bike.  It's incredibly comfortable.

Speaking of bikes...I need to take mine in for its 30 day "check up."  I can't believe I've had my bike 30 days ~ seems like just yesterday I was bringing her home.  (Sounds like I'm talking about my kid ~ I say that all the time when I'm telling someone she's almost a year old!)

I didn't get to the gym yesterday ~ by choice.  I've been having back/hip issues and decided to call it good with my push ups, squats, and abs until after my chiro appt today.  I'm happy to say I am feeling a million times better and have a 4 mile run scheduled for tonight.  I even made another chiro appt for Monday ~ just in case!

Bump....I refuse to let us fall to page 2!

I got my 4 mile run tonight and then some.  I thought I had a good 4 mile run mapped out (I just wanted a different bit of scenery) but my time didn't match up so I ended up running around the neighborhood to make up some time.  Oh well, I'll map out the correct distance in the next day or two.  (Just in time to start my 5-8 mile runs!)

Planning some quality time at the pool this afternoon. I too will be on the treadmill at some point to get in the mileage for my challenge.  @ -20 windchills I don't think I'll be spending much time outdoors.  Hope this breaks soon.  The Dreadmill is getting old fast.

No I don't ....Hmm ....Tank are you out there ?

As for me I did 2 miles on the treadmill last night (I am no dummy and am not messing with sub 0 wind chills!) and my ab work.

And Michelle...Can I come sleep on your couch?  The windchill in Chicago is supposed to be -35F tonight I am not sure I can take it much longer j/k

1:15 min. on the trainer last nite during American Idol....(since I was on the trainer, I don't have to turn in my "Man Card" the way I figure it).

-7 here.   Kids out of school.

Indoor swim (duh!) and treadmill run today.  Gotta teach @ Academy this afternoon so I'll use their treadmill.

Great to see the workouts going up here!  Spring will truly be here before we know it.  Now is the time to lay down the base.  Remember - "anyone can workout when they 'feel' like it."  Us winners workout even when we don't!

I haven't looked at what I'm supposed to do today but I think it's a ride.  I've talked my Mom into going with me and walking.   So I may just do a run/walk on the treadmill next to her.  We'll see.

Feeling better this morning.  I didn't have any coughing during the night and no burning this morning.

Brrrr for those of you in the midwest.  We haven't had the cold this week just freezing fog.  I've heard that if we get up out of the valley sunshine exists.

What the heck is going on?  I'd send you some sunshine but I don't really have much of it.  I am happy to say that it is NOWHERE as cold as you all are tolerating but we are getting hit with another storm so it's all windy and raining.  I just hope we get to keep our electricity this time!   I'd have to admit that rain is better than cold so here's a bit of warmth being sent your way....hope it helps.

I had planned on getting in the pool today but not sure that's going to happen so depending on what time hubby gets home, I may go to cycling class or do tomorrow's run/lifting session tonight ~ we'll see!

Plan for the gym kinda fell through today.  Not really feeling it there.  Prolly best I didn't push things.  I'll be better tomorrow.

On the plus side, I did talk to a guy in a bike shop about a new ride.  Looking at three models.  A Trek 2.3 (2008 model clearanced at $1000 which is my absolute max price. He says it was orig. priced about $1500)  Trek 1.2 (2009- also about $1000) and a Specialized Allez (2009- about $850). Any thoughts or suggestions?  I'm leaning toward the Specialized mainly due to price. But I'm open to all three if there is an overwhelming reason to pick one of the others.  I will also then need to buy pedals and shoes, so I'm open to suggestions on those too. The bike is by far the weakest of my events, mainly cause I'm so clueless when it comes to bikes.

Jealous...so very jealous.

We need to get JHouse in here, he buys a couple of new bikes every year.

For the money, the 2.3 is the best deal.
I am going to stress this and this is what matters most. The bike needs to fit you. If you are too stretched or compressed in your torso or your legs feel over or under extended, you are going to have issues.  Ride all three of them and go with what feels best.
Now, if they all feel the same, I would go with the Specialized. (Not only because I ride them) but for the money. While you are “haggling”  over the price ask if they can throw in a set of pedals or a bottle cage etc.  Some bikes do come with pedals and the shops will not put them one because everyone wants something different. The shop that I go to has a box of new pedals. If someone starts asking for better price etc, they throw in some free pedals.
