surfnturf - 2009-06-02 6:51 PM Since I didn't make my goals for last last month, I will try again. Modified goals for June are: Run.....45 miles Bike....120 miles I hope I can make it b/c I really need a new pair of bike shorts which will be my reward if I make it!

That's a great reward!  Mine would be a new pair of running shorts.

First tri this weekend.  Went for an OWS at the site today.  Water temps are around 65 degrees, so a bit chilly of a swim with out a wetsuit, but it will be short.  I am a bit nervous that the forecast is calling for temps only in the low 50's as well.  The cold swim I was read for, the cold bike and run are just going to suck.  I will make it I am just a little worried about freezing the entire time.

You will do GREAT. Forget about the water temps and just use it as motivation to get out of the water faster!! As for the bike and run. Just have an extra shirt at transition so you can put it on if you find you are too cool. Hopefully, your adrenalin will be pumping so ard that you will be able to stay warm. Enjoy the race and let us know how you do!!

Good luck tomorrow!!  Can't wait to hear about it.

If you have a jacket that zips, I would bring that with you.  Easier to throw on in transition when you are wet than shirts or jerseys.

Just woke up from my post race nap.  Don't have the official times yet but I think I broke 1:30 for the sprint or pretty darn close to it.  I died on the swim which pissed me off but not a big surprise.  The swim course and two 90 degree turns within about the first 100-150 yards of the start, which keep everyone bunched up.  Lots of people were saying that the swim was the most physical they had ever had at this race.  Also the googles fogged up, couldn't see, and ended up swimming with my head up out of the water most of the race because I could find my stroke.  Exited the water around 10:30 so slower than I wanted but I will take it for a first race.

T1 I pulled on a tech shirt and jacket over my tri top and was off on the bike.  I felt great on the bike.  Was catching a ton of people and only dropped of the big ring for one hill.  I ride a triple so I was happy I was able to pound the gears.  My split for the bike, 13 miles, should be right around 45 minutes.  My goal was sub 50 so feel good about that.

T2 I ditched the jacket and was off.  I should have eaten some sport beans here but went without.  I couldn't feel my feet for the first mile, making the run feel weird.   At the turn around I started to feel like I was going to blow up. Stomach wanted to empty and lower GI wasn't feeling so well.  I slowed the pace for a minute or two and recovered.  I think I will finish the 5k in about 28 minutes, which is better than I expected and is better an my stand alone 5k from earlier this year.

I will post my race report once i get the official results.

Micah,
It sounds like you had an AMAZING race!! Sorry to hear about the swim but now that you have been through it, you can make adjustments for next time. The bike and run sound like you did great! I'm so glad you saved yourself from hurling on the run. You officially earned your new title...TRIATHLETE!! Hope there are many more races in your future.

My race report is up, but I can't get it to link correctly.  Ended up with 1:30:16 time.  My swim really, really sucked.  Also not happy with my placing, but gives me something to work towards.

Got to brag my wife up, so you all are the lucky victims.  It is my B-day today and my wife told me last week she was getting me stuff for training.  The last time we were at the LBS I had talked to her about the type of stuff that would be nice to have but not really necessary.  So today she gave me my presents which were a nice biking shirt, neon yellow with 1/2 zipper, and a matching set of under armour loose fit performance gear. Not to worried about the matching part, but she said she wanted me to have a nice outfit to race 5ks or tris in if I didn't want to race in my tri suit.  Pretty much it is stuff I would have liked to have bought but would never have because I would feel guilty.  I was so impressed she knew what to get without me having to go back and point it out.  Women are so, so, so, so much better than men are.

Happy Birthday Micah! Getting TRI gear for presents is the best...especially when it matches and it fits!!

OF COURSE I MISSED YOU ALL!!  Training is going fairly well considering the stress/B.S. in other areas of my life recently.  Actually, my training has been a haven.  My first ever tri is this Sunday...I swam in my wetsuit for the first time tonight...felt like I was zooming (or maybe Zooting :-) across the water.  A little nervous, but pretty excited too.

I actually kept checking our group posts, just wasn't up to being social for a bit.  Thanks for understanding!  Tongue out

Anyone else racing this weekend??

Just saw the photos taken by the race photogs.  I luck horrid in most of them. There is one of them that I luck half way ok in as I leave the transition area but I am going to have to love the photo to buy it for 24 bucks.

The first time I swam in a wetsuit, I felt the same way.  It was so much fun!  Actually, I still kind of feel like that when I swim in the wetsuit.
