JoshKaptur - 2010-08-18 8:46 AMDoes anyone have a current garmin file for the present course?  I'd like to just obey the garmin and not worry about where I am given the lack of road signs, but a quick check of mapmyride seems to have either the old course or seems to start somehwere besides the transition area.

Kyle, were you able to mark the course like you hoped (weather dependent)?

I'll be riding this Friday EARLY (planning to leave home in the Baltimore area around 4:00ish) - I'll try not to crash on Spring Lick on this ride like I did the last time I rode the course in prep for the race.

Josh - Two of us are riding Friday as well.  Our plan is to leave Severna Park at 5:30 and to have wheels rolling at 9am from the parking lot at DCL.  Not sure if you want to wait that long but would love to have more company so if you are interested in joining us let me know.  After we plan on doing a 30min brick run and then play in the water.

Jeff

Course is freshly marked.  Garmin file is available for download from the SavageMan 70.0 bike course page.

Great, Thanks!

Does that GPS route go around the Westernport Wall? Seems that way...

This time with the screen cap...

I think you can figure it out....up or around.....your choice

I create the Garmin files via Google Maps Driving Directions so that my Garmin files include the turn-by-turn directions.  You can do it yourself by getting the script into your bookmarks from here: http://www.the-yosts.com/googlemap_cuesheet.html

Here's the SavageMan course in Google Maps.  http://tinyurl.com/SavageMan70-0

Bring that up, click on the new bookmark you got from the-yosts.com, wait a sec, and voila, there's a cue sheet, GPX file, Garmin file with turn-by-turn directions and elevation profile.

Super easy-peasy way to make cue sheets and garmin files which include elevation profile and turn-by-turn directions.

LOL  I love how that picture makes it look so flat.  Laughing

I just got my bike back from the shop... I'm ready to give it another go.  That rear wheel is tight as a drum now.  It no longer hits the brakes.

There was also a "minor" modification to the rear cassette which should make things a little easier.. er uh, less hard.

How fast do you guys plan to ride, Jeff?  I'm out for the brick run, but potentially in for the ride/carpool.  I'm also trying to twist Joe's arm into getting up that early and going out.  Do you have space for 4 people/bikes?  Glad to help with gas $.

Not fast, will be a recon ride for sure..friend coming along has not rode the course before so who knows...likely to take all of 4 hours, maybe a little bit more (4:15 was my time 2 years ago but hoping 2 IMs since then have added to the fitness).  I have space for three, four would be tight...will look at it tonight to test (taking wife's minivan up with back seats out so three bikes in back would fit fine..also have a bike rack that can hold another so maybe so...will let you know).  Plan is to leave 5:30am, wheels rolling by 9am, short brick run around 1:30pm, short swim, then split for home.  We will stop off for dinner at a pizza restaurant/pub right off of I-68 (can't remember the name but its right along the highway past Cumberland...really good pie there).  Should be home in SP by 8pm.  You are more then welcome to join us.

Some guy posted on the facebook page looking for someone to ride with Sat.  Go check SavageMan's wall.

Don't know your speed and don't know his, but word of warning, SavageMan is the kind of course where you've just got to go your own speed.  It's no fun being the waitee or the waiter if you're riding that kind of terrain with someone of very different ability.

PennState - 2010-08-19 9:09 PM Hey Josh, James, what's the fastest BT bike split at Savageman? (just making conversation)

I'll guess that it's not held by the BTer with the fastest overall finish time.

Of course I'll still be swimming when you guys hit the wall, so I won't talk too much smack.

What wheels are you guys riding?

I am sure you are going to see this doesn't happen this year.

I think Josh is even going to be faster than me, especially in OA.  With his LP performance and that run of his, we all will be bowing to the Josh’ster.

I don't think so either.  There are 6 pro’s and 16 elites that will probable put a stop to that.

btw Fred drinks Dog Fish

and I am racing my Zipp 808's tubies with special air in them.

Josh, its not who wins the race, its who has the fastest bike split. In for a gentlemans bet?

All this time I've been confused!!!

Gentleman's bet proposal:
- fastest bike split get's a 6 pack of choice from all others in on the gentleman's bet.
- fastest bike split must chug 1 of those beers for every three minutes he finishes overall behind each beer purchaser.

So if Fred has fastest bike split, beats Tasr overall by 7 minutes, but loses overall to me by 4 minutes, he much chug one beer.  No biggie.  But if Tasr has the fastest overall bike split but loses to me by 8 minutes (2 beers) and to Fred by 11 minutes (3 beers), he must chug 5 beers.  This rewards fastest bike split, but I think recognizes those other 2 parts of the tri that we all know don't matter.  Apologies in advance that all my examples had me finishing first overall... I was just trying to be historically accurate.
