Expert 1076 Las Vegas, NV | Subject: RE: Frostbite Force - Du-December Challenge losta - 2009-12-10 5:37 AM Todd I'm running in Las Vegas this week. Mornings have been brisk but not too bad with two top layers an ear band and light gloves. It's COLD for us here in Vegas from what is typical. Probably 10 degrees lower than normal. Don't usually get this many freezing morning days at least not yet. |

Regular 60 | Subject: RE: Frostbite Force - Du-December Challenge Frosties! A couple of things: Migraine didn't lift, so I'm laying low tonight. Additionally, do any of you have experience using Timex Ironman Watches while swimming? I'm interested in these for both lap counting and possibly HRM between laps. Thanks! Riley |

Member 82 | Subject: RE: Frostbite Force - Du-December Challenge I have this one and love it! http://www.timex.com/Timex-Ironman-30-Lap-Mid/dp/B000AYSH6U?ie=UTF8&refinementHistory=watch_movement_type%2Csize_code%2Cband_material_type%2Cdial_color%2Cprice&searchNodeID=2229245011&field_launch-date=-1y&class=quickView&searchRank=salesrank&searchPage=1&field_browse=2229245011&searchSize=12&id=Timex%20Ironman%2030-Lap%20Mid&field_availability=-1 I use it for timing my intervals because I can't see the clocks without glasses. It would probably work for counting your laps, but with any lap counter you will waste time making some sort of motion to push the button. |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Frostbite Force - Du-December Challenge Got in a nice 2100 yard swim tonight, just maintanance stuff. There are watches that count laps for you without having to hit anything. I don't have any experience with the hrm timex. I use an Ironman Timex and count lap times up to 100 splits. And there are goggles for less than $20 that give you a perscription correction. I have a pair and highly recommend them, especially for longer distance triathlon swims. |

Expert 805 Portland,OR | Subject: RE: Frostbite Force - Du-December Challenge a_prl - 2009-12-09 10:30 AM i'm having problems with the dark. it's not so so cold here. but how do i run when it's dark out? plus, the dark makes me want to curl up in blankets and not move. where do you guys run when it's dark outside? I know exactly how you feel. I leave for work in the dark and come home in the dark. It's pretty hard to go running at night when I have to look out the window and see how sunny and beautiful it is all day. And it doesn't help that it's been in the teens here at night. Fortunately, my bus drops off at the front door of the gym so I can go work out in the warmth. I might work up the gumption to go run in the freezing cold, but I'm not holding my breath. |

Riley I had an Ironman watch for a long time and loved it for lap counting. After using it for two seasons it got water in it and broke. I may get another one though, now that I'm back to swimming. |

Member 82 | Subject: RE: Frostbite Force - Du-December Challenge Yes, my swim group was telling me about prescription goggles this morning. I had no idea they were so widely available and inexpensive. This will be great! Thanks. |

Extreme Veteran 597 New Joisy | Subject: RE: Frostbite Force - Du-December Challenge I didn't get my track workout in yesterday, but I did run 4 miles. It was just too windy to do intervals. I had to muscle up against the wind just to stay upright on one side of the track. I have a bike ride planned for today, but at 20 degree and wind gusts, I will be on the trainer. |

Master 1887 Brentwood, CA | Subject: RE: Frostbite Force - Du-December Challenge Is it just me or do you start to feel fidgety or anoxious when you don't workout? I had planned to do just a little strength-core workout in the morning, then spend the rest of the day working around the house. Well, that didn't quite work. I ended up heading over to the pool for a quick swim lesson with my swim coach. Unfortunately, more rain here today. The chances of the bike ride are looking less and less. My bike miles are really suffering this month. |

Master 1887 Brentwood, CA | Subject: RE: Frostbite Force - Du-December Challenge OK, here's where I do my cheerleader routine: "GO, FROSTIES, GO!." We are still sliding sideways in third place at 27.9 percent goal completion. The leading team is at 30.5 percent. So, if your vacillating on that workout, use this for a little additional motivation. Have a good workout today! |

Nice job on getting a swim in....I love swimming. |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Frostbite Force - Du-December Challenge Hopefully today it gets above freezing to reduce ice/snow for running. I have an 8 mile run planned for today and then have to take tomorrow off as I have been carrying too much fatigue this week. I need to get some recovery in before Sunday's run. Gosh, just one more week before Christmas break. Time for another couple 700 mile drives, Christmas shopping and then carting back a zillion things my kids don't need to pile in our house that is already overloaded with junk. On a positive note this is a really good time of year to buy bike tires and other consuables that you will need during the tri year. Tires are like $20 off each, which adds up. I am not sure about shoes, but other random things. Unfortunately this is the time of year that you can't afford them. Christmas wish list, 2 michelin pro 3 race tires, 10 pounds of Infinit, 10 pounds of GU, 1 pair of backup prescription gogles, 1 role of bar tape, 1 set of chain cleaining fluids/greese and 3 pair of running shoes. There we go. Hrm weather forcast for today, snow, tommorrow rain and snow, Sunday fluries........ Edited by Baowolf 2009-12-11 10:40 AM |

Two of my runs were sidelined this week...hubbs was sick one day (first time in 3 years) and dentist appointments yesterday. No cavities Doing my 14 mile run in the morning, so hopefully that will help with our % complete Weather forcast: possible sleet. That should be a blast! |

Expert 805 Portland,OR | Subject: RE: Frostbite Force - Du-December Challenge Probably no workout for me today, but do have one planned for tomorrow after I finish working on the yard. Unfortunately there is freezing rain on the schedule for tomorrow so not sure if I'll be doing a treadmill run or out on the street. Rain scheduled for all of next week but at least it will be slight warmer. |

Master 1887 Brentwood, CA | Subject: RE: Frostbite Force - Du-December Challenge It was hard to get going, but I got my run done. When I left the house, it was upper 30s at drizzly. It wasn't bad once I got going though. On the bright side, it gave me a chance to try my new running gloves. |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Frostbite Force - Du-December Challenge Alrighty 8 mile run done and it was snowing reasonably hard the whole time, getting heavier as the run went on. I guess maybe I should have put those snow tires on in place of my bald front tires on the car......yesterday. The really odd thing is that it was the best run I have had since I got back up to elevation...almost 2 weeks ago. I averaged like 8:01 mpm at a top zone 2 bottom of zone 3 effort, with snow on the ground for some of it, wet pavement for most. Hopefully it just took me a couple extra days to reaclimate to both the elevation and the colder air (20'sF instead of mid 70'sF). In any case that brings me to 66 miles run for the month, so pretty much on track if I can get in Sunday's run. (Snowing all weekend it looks like). How's everyone else's weekend looking? |
