Hi!  Here I am!

Crazy day yesterday!  Overslept in the am so I only had time to do 30 min on the treadmill at home.   Lesson for the day:  Even if your original plans are scrapped, salvage what you can.  I could have said, oh well, can't do the whole workout so why bother.  But I decided to do what I could in the time I had left.  So instead of getting nothing done, I at least got in half of the workout.  I had thought perhaps I could do the other half of my 6 mile run later in the evening, but that could not be saved.  It was Senior Night at the swim/dive meet.  Unfortunately, my husband was out of town on business, so I alone had to pick-up the Grandmas, and then after the meet, bring them both home.  Didn't get home until 10:00  pm.  WAY past my usual bedtime.

This evening our Tri-Club  is having a pot luck dinner. .  It's nice to be able to socialize with the people from the club, but I have a rather strict regime of what and when I eat, so it can be difficult.  Due to medication that I need to take at bed time on an empty stomach, I usually don't eat after 7 pm.  This dinner does not start until 7.  So I actually ate a little dinner at home, then will eat a small bit at the pot luck.  I also have to be very careful about what's in dishes.    It can actually be easier at restaurants than at people's homes.  I don't want to sound rude asking "what's in this?  what's in that?"  Also, I don't like to call attention to the fact that I have "issues".  Anyone else have similar challenges when eating out/ parties?

Happy Saturday Night!

The holidays were really challenging. All these people at my new job gave out home-baked cookies, etc. They'd say, "Try one! It's really good!"

So I either had to explain that I can't eat wheat, or nuts, or dairy, or.... well, you get the idea. I think some people came to the conclusion that I have "issues." LOL

i have not posted in a while.  I am still working out.  School is started full swing and this is my first semester to feel any stress over that, work, and training.

Needless to say my body is not liking the stresss and I don't either.  I also had some financial issues that were not accurate that are adding to the days in and outs of everything.  So I am overwhelmed with matters I really do not have control over.

Today is a 7 mile run.  Once I turn in a project I will have a little more energy and time to focus.

suzimmer - 2010-01-28 8:06 PM HI All,

Steve:  How's the progress? What a horribly frustrating (and painful!) experience.  Are you home or can you go to work?

I am feeling ok, have not taken pain pills in a week.  Still get  a twinge of pain periodically to remind me it is still there.

I actually did a slow easy swim workout yesterday, felt good to do something...  Another one Monday night.  Not ready to try bike yet.  Dr. appt is Weds, so know more then.

HI  everyone!

Steve, when you see the doc is it decision time about taking that bugger out?  At least you got in a swim and felt OK.

Scott:  Ouch, knee wrapped in ice while on the trainer. Does it help?  I can see how that would make it hard to keep going. Good for you to even try, but don't push it and make it worse.

I don't know about you, but I've just decided that I'm finished with winter.  A very unrealistic statement for a Chicagoan at the beginning of February.  I've been running outside, but it sure would be nice to get out on the bike....SIGH  unfortunately probably have a while before that happens.

Joanna:  Welcome back!  It is so hard to balance everything.  Glad you are still training despite all you have on your plate.
I know that I actually feel less stressed when I get my training in, even though before hand I may feel stressed about finding the time.  A good workout is a great stress buster.

Dee:  yup, food "issues".  They suck.  I need to start my wheat and dairy free diet and keep procrastinating.  It might help situations like the one described below.  How long have you been on it?

I had a great time at the pot luck dinner last night.  It was fun to see all the people from the club, that you usually see all sweaty, dressed in various training gear, instead dressed like a "normal" person.  Hair done, make-up on etc.  I actually didn't recognize a couple of people.   Unfortunately for me, I must have eaten something I shouldn't have and by the time I got home was in a lot of pain.  I'm glad it was a Sat. night, because I was able to sleep late on Sun and felt fine by mid morning and was able to get my long run in later in the day.

So, let's see those plans for the week!

After the session I iced the knees, not during, it was a painful one for sure.

I am sooooo ready for some outdoor fun!!

Not long. I went dairy and gluten free in October. It actually was a lot easier to do than I'd thought it would be.

Here are some foods and the substitutions I made for them:
Wheat noodles --> Rice noodles, rice or kasha.
Wheat crackers --> Rice crackers
Milk --> Rice, almond or soy milk

As for eating out:
Thai and Chinese foods are often gluten and dairy free.
Mexican food can be gluten and/or dairy free, depending upon what you get.

It is staying in an ok spot...  only an occasional pain, last night was first pain pill in a week.  Today was Ok.

I did get in another easy swim tonight, about 500 yards.  Shoulder is sore from it.

Dr. will make a decision Weds, but I am going to make him do another scan first to make sure this is the first stone and not that I passed one and am working on little brother.....

Hi all!

Steve, I'll be sending positive vibes your way on Wednesday.  Let's hope it's the little brother and big brother is long gone.
Great that you were able to swim again, but careful with the shoulder.

Dee, have you tried any of the wheat free pasta?  I've bought a bunch of of the rice noodles and some of the wheat free pasta.  I've had the rice noodles before and like them.   Also, have you tried any of the cheese alternatives?

ok so I am still having problems with my neck so my workouts aren't the greatest and I'm not swimming at all right now. I kind of replaced swimming with the stairmaster. Boy that thing can really kick your a**...
Anyway today I am definitely doing the stairs and a run I don't know about the bike yet we will just have to see.

Knees are aching, probably from intense trainer rides, lots of ice.

Umm, one post in last 48 hours, I hope everyone is doing ok, I would hate to see our group fade away.

hello gang.  i figured i better post.  i haven't been doing much in the way of working out, but i've been staying abreast of everyone's posts.  lurkin in the shadows i suppose.

seems like we are all a little dinged up right now, but i'm glad to see some of you guys are still plowing thru and maintaining your scheduled workouts.  props to you guys and gals!!

i hope nobody is thinking of bailing.  as they say, pain is temporary but glory is forever.  i think we have to discover our own definition of glory and just keep that in mind during the down times.

looking forward to getting back on the horse, er bike i mean!

No, I haven't tried that. I liked the rice noodles enough that I've been using them. There are some different styles (wider, etc.).

And no, I haven't tried the cheese alternatives. I didn't know there were any! What have you tried?

Rice milk is pretty good. I didn't like the almond as much, but maybe that's just me.

He sent me for another CATSCAN with appt for tomorrow morning.  Well instead of 2 kidney stones a 5 mm and a 2 mm I now have 4 all 3 mm in size.  2 in the right kidney, 1 in the left and the mover stuck just outside my bladder.

On good side, great workout in the pool tonight... 1700 total yards and easy.  300 warmup, 400 IM kick, 100 free arms only, 100 back arms only, 300 junk yards, 100 underwater, 100 zipper drill, 300 free cool down.

Hi Gang!
Nope, we are not fading away!  A bit dinged and bent, but still hanging in there.  Like Steve...still swimming despite those darn stones.  Way to go!  And Mindy, I'm glad you have found something that you can do with the neck giving you problems.  Yes, the stairmaster is an a$$ kicker.  I keep saying I should be doing that in preparation for the hills of Boston.

Drew, glad to see you are still around.  No lurking!  Even if you are not getting the workouts in, just stop by and say "hi".

Dee, yes, work has that habit of getting in the way of what we'd rather be doing.

Because I workout in the am before school it is dark when I leave and it's dark when I get home.  Although, today when I left school it was still a bit light out.  YEAH!!!!   The best way to make yourself get in the habit of training is to sign up for a race.  Because I am so cheap, it would kill me to pay the money for race and then not do it because I hadn't prepared.

So Steve, will you find out on Thursday what's going to happen.  Still a waiting game or???

Dee, I have found a cream cheese alternative (haven't tried it yet).  I was at Whole Foods today (or as my friend calls it Whole Paycheck....damn that place is expensive.)  Anyway, I was in hurry so I didn't have time to really investigate, but a friend told me there is a mozzarella substitute. I'm going to have a hard time living without cheese. I'll be going back to Whole foods next week and will actually ask someone.  I did find some yogurt alternatives and some fake chocolate chips that are surprisingly quite yummy.  The bread I've found is...well rather like eating cardboard. I would like to try baking some of my own.   Haven't quite started the diet in earnest.  We are having a birthday lunch celebration at school tomorrow so...I figured I could wait until after that.

Well, I have some paperwork to get done for school.  Trouble with special education is the paperwork is killer. Fortunately we use an on-line system for much of it now so that reduces some of the waste, but the information still needs to be entered by someone.  And that someone right now is me.

Keep on training...or at least thinking about it and telling us about it anyway.Smile

I agree with this whole heartedly.  I signed up for 6 5K and 3 tris last year in package deals.  It killed me not to do the 5Ks I missed.  I am planning on signing up for a 4 race series this summer, but have not done it yet.

We are in a little wait and see and in a drink, drink, drink mode....  If I can flush it out before the appt to go get it, I win.  If I do not, then they follow the plumbing and grab it in a small basket with a scope.  As soon as I get the appointment I will let you guys know.

I'm in the same situation. It's dark when I leave for work and dark when I get home. I'll be happy when daylight savings time begins. At least then, I'll get home while it's still light out!

Fake cheese? Who knew.

I heard that the wheat/gluten free bread was like cardboard, so I didn't try it. However, someone on BT was just talking about wheat/gluten free pizza dough. Combine that with some tomato sauce and fake mozzarella, and yes, I'd be willing to try it.

I had some rice crackers there were pretty good. I got them in the Asian food section at the supermarket.
