GOOD MORNING EVERYONE... It's going to be a gorgeous day :D

I am biking the course for my April 24th tri today. I really need the help in the bike portion, so I am practicing today and this saturday... maybe I can get an edge on people. ;D

I wouldn't mind also getting a short run in today... but we'll see how everything looks with time. I might pound out a few miles while Addy naps, on my treadmill.  Better than nothing right?

It's funny... I pretty much lost most of my weight walking/jogging/running on my treadmill.... but lately I have been running outside or on an indoor track ( on bad days) and now... my treadmill just isn't cutting it for me. When I run outdoors I can go further, faster.... It just seems easier to me.  Is this the case for anyone else? Do we run faster outside?

The only thing I can think of is maybe I take longer strides while running outdoors. Maybe my treadmill only lets me take short strides. Hmmmm....

P.s. GREAT job pete for getting your workout in!! I am PROUD!!!
Debbie-
AWESOME JOB on the 1.4 pounds lost... I am JEALOUS! I just can't seem to shake this plateau.

I was a treadmill runner until the beginning of January this year, and I've tried to get back on the treadmill a couple of times, but just can't...it seems impossibly boring, and doesn't feel right anymore, so I'd rather brave the bad weather and run outside than get on my dreadmill...I think it will become a place to hang laundry now:p

I think running outside allows you to adjust your speed without thinking, on a treadmill you have to push a button to go faster

Quote the post that has the list of names, and then copy it, then go to your training log and hit the edit link which is under the RSS button and then paste it there

tmoran80 - 2010-04-15 10:08 AM Good job on the run last night!  Could not believe how warm it was last night and was thinkning about you doing your run as I walked outside leaving work last night and was glad it was you not me doing a long run haha -j/k

I am doing the Rock-N-Roll 1/2 in August and will be increasing my mileage pretty soon.  Nothing better than hot / humid Chicago summer weather for those long runs!!

NRG42 - 2010-04-15 9:54 AM Hi guys,

I made my run last night, still slow but felt good .  Back up and going today will swim and tone up the core.  Very little swelling in the knees and body feel fine today.

Thanks for all the tips and support it really did help!!!!

It was perfect(weather), made the run soooo much more enjoyable.  I too will be doing the Chicago 1/2 Rock and Rock. A HOT mess.....I wear it well and often!

debbiereid06 - 2010-04-15 7:19 AM wow!  You all have been busy on here!  Went to the Cardinals game last night and was up way past my bedtime

So I weighed in yesterday and I lost 1.4 lbs this week!!!!  I am super excited about that.  I have been really trying to watch what I eat and I know that makes a huge difference and can make the difference if I am not getting all my workouts in (weight wise).

I have 15-20 wheelbarrows of mulch to lay tonight so that will be my workout for today.  But I am planning on doing my step class followed by a short run in the am tomorrow.

The core article was great!  Thanks for that.

Funny how happy/unhappy that scale can make us .....eh?  Good for you and keep up the good work.

I just flat out dislike gyms (now if my gym had an indoor running track and a pool, then it might not be so bad).  I guess all the years I spent in them really built up a distaste for me.  I only go to the gym if I have to, and even then i am either on the treadmill or spin bike.  I think that is why I have such a hard time working out over the winter.  I just love being outside for my workouts and actually enjoy the sun/heat.  My wife thinks I am crazy when I get home from work at go for a run when it is 100 degrees.

I always run slower on a treadmill

Cheri - I always get little seeds of doubt before most of my races, but I try to think back to a recent good run/workout and realize that if I can do it in training I can do it in a race!  How far are you traveling for it?

Before the Chicago Marathon last year I completely bonked on my 20 mile training run at mile 18 and fought, clawed and vomited my way to finish (only because i had to get to my car).  Worst run of my life and not how I wanted to start my taper for the race.  I worried like crazy for two weeks wondering why I bonked so bad and if I had trained enough.

I had to really fight on my taper to not push it and because of that ended up having my best race with a new PR.  I have to admit that I really didn't completely get over that training run disaster thought in my head til I hit Mile 18 and realized I was still hitting negative splits and kicked it in to the finish (until a damn Canadian waving a Canadian flag from the crowd jumped in front of me killing my pace - sorry Pete

So yes you will have negative thoughts but just look back on your training logs knowing that you put the work in.  Start the race out slow for the first few miles and pick up your pace as you go along.  Don't get caught up in the crowd speeding out and crashing the last half.  Know what pace you want to go out with and stick with the plan and you will do
great.

I was a treadmill runner only until recently.  I hate hopping on it for a run now but life gets in the way still and I need to run after bedtime.  I do find that when I am running alone outside, I run faster.  It is so easy to set the treadmill at whatever speed and stay there.  When I run with Logan in the stroller, I tend to be slower.  I am on the treadmill through the weekend and need to figure something out.  I try to save my intervals for the treadmill but I can't do 3 days in a row.

Ok guys...today is April 15th.  I need to stop eating junk.  I need to stop using being busy during tax season as an excuse to not eat better.  I am going food shopping this weekend and stocking up.  What is a typical day food wise for you guys?

Thanks!! that workout looks great. I am going to give it a try. :D

My wife and kids think I am crazy since I usually do that workout in the evening while they are watching tv and you would think I am getting beat and kicked in the gut especially towards the end when I get to the last three and after every one I am rolling on the ground moaning for about 5-10 seconds - haha

I am going to try it tonight!  My kids won't let me do any kind of exercises on the floor.  Joe wants to do them with me and Logan just wants to lay on top of me.  It turns into a big snuggle session on the floor!!

We won't let you slack off!

Uh-oh...the food question...on a normal work day I do really well...

Breakfast - kashi cereal with fresh blueberries
Snack - yogurt or cottage cheese
Snack - nuts, v8 (low sodium), cheese
Lunch - turkey sandwich on whole grain (or occasionally healthy choice soup), cherry tomatoes, diet soda
Snack - fruit or wheat thins or popcorn
Dinner - something sensible
Dessert - i discovered banana chips and fell in love!

on a non work day...all bets are off!

A typical day for me consists of

B-fast: oatmeal or granola bar and 8 oz. chocolate milk

Lunch-lean cuisine or boca chicken burger on arnold sandwich thins w/red. fat pepperjack and either pretzel thins or 100 cal. popcorn

Snack-fat free pudding or ww boston creme yogurt

Dinner-something out of one of my 10 WW cookbooks or something grilled

Snack-fruit or WW ice cream

Hope that helps.  With that being said I have only been able to stick with this 3 out of 7 days lately and am pushing to do it more!  This is what I would eat when I lost my weight.

Typical Food day for me:

Breakfast: oatmeal with blueberries or a banana and cinnamon
Snack: piece of fruit or a handfull of nuts
Lunch: Tuna sandwich(mix tuna for non-fat yoghurt instead of mayo) or if I'm really lazy peanut butter and banana on bread(bread is always whole grain)
Snack: fruit of handful of nuts
Dinner: normally, raw cut veggies, grilled chicken breast and some high enzyme fruits, like strawberries or pineapple, but tonight I'm roasting a chicken, and serving with baked yams and spinach.
optional snack: crackers & lowfat cheese or a piece of fruit

Liquids: I drink 2 cups of coffee in the morning, then it's nothing but water until after workout when I will have some chocolate milk.

We usually allow ourselves one cheater lunch, one cheater dinner and one dessert time every week

I try to plan meals on the weekend and do some preparation like making up a large batch of pasta sauce, making my own wontons, with ground chicken or turkey, meatballs to add to pasta sauce and then freezing them in portions that can be taken out in the morning and be ready to throw together when we get home from work.  I'm not always successful, but the weeks that I do the prep work, are way better for the diet than the weeks I don't.

Typical food day consists of:

4:45am - Cliff Bar before workout
7:00 am - Banana or some fruit on the way to work with cup of coffee
8:30am - Granola Cereal w/ skim milk or whole wheat waffles with banana's and chopepd pecans
10:00am - whole wheat toast with peanut butter
12:00pm - varies - but I try and stay vegetarian during the day.  I have been following a plan in a book "The Flexitarian Diet" that I saw in Runners World a few months back.  Try to follow the recipe which usually consists of some type of bean meal or veggie burgers.
2:00 pm - bananan, apple or wheat thins to tide me over til dinner
6:00 pm - spring mix salad before dinner then chicken breast, ground turkey based meal with veggies.
8:00pm - a couple of beers and steak burrito - just seeing who is actually reading this
8:15 pm - snack like raisins, fruit, sun chips, or  small bowl of ice cream if I have the craving.

I hope you guys can send me some good recipes!  It's hard because Ryan is such a picky eater, so for dinner, I get sucked into his junk food a lot of times.  We made two meals every night for a while but that got old fast.

Breakfast: a fruit/yogurt smoothie and either 2 waffles with peanut butter OR an egg and cheese muffin (homecooked, of course.)

Lunch: either low-cal soup or 2 tuna sandwiches

Snack: fruit cup or a handful of pretzels

Dinner: free for all!  either pasta, rice, noodles, usually with some veggies or a salad.

Wow, that's a lot of carbs for dinner....

Any suggestions?

John and I are total opposites when it comes to food too.  He is all about carbs and I am not.  He eats red meat, I don't.  I love seafood, he won't touch it.  Some nights we do cook two different things.  Oh, and he won't touch a vegetable!!!

Breakfast- Oatmeal with fresh fruit ( I like to slice peaches or strawberries into it to sweeten things up a bit)
Snack- A Fuji Apple and a Low fat cheese stick
Lunch- Low Sodium Turkey sandwich and carrot sticks, sometimes some goldfish crackers
Snack- A few wheat thins topped with low fat cottage cheese and some blueberries
Dinner- Something Healthy. I eat a lot of chicken breasts and steamed veggies. I also like a small baked potato with grilled veggies to top it.  During the summer I eat a LOT of fresh veggies. I am a garden Junkie.
Dessert- 10 calorie jello cup or 60 calorie pudding cup.
Sometimes I splurge and have a couple dove chocolates instead. MMMMM

Oh the weekends I eat differently. I still allow myself pizza or chinese or whatever if that is what comes up, but I watch my portions carefully. I try not to snack too much on weekends. It's harder to watch what I am eating if I am constantly having a handful or this or that.

Keep lots of healthy stuff around the house. Lots of fresh fruits and veggies. Don't even buy chips and candy... it save you the temptation.  I just give my daughter whatever I eat... And it's nice an healthy for her. And it's made it nice cause she isn't a picky child.  AND LOVES LOVES LOVES  Blueberries. :D
