I am so missing the workout.

Had surgery on the "BOYS" last Friday and have been ordered by the wife and doc not to do anything for two weeks.

This is the longest two weeks of my life. haha

golfpro - 2010-10-12 3:50 PM Hi there,

Here is some info on the course - My watched ran out of batteries towards the end of my run in this year's race and never set the watch to split the events (all together).

Garmin stats

I never switch
The bike course is rolling terrain and there are plenty!of hills that by the time you get done it beats the crap out of your legs. There were some spots out there this year in the bike course that the temp was around 105 not including the heat index.

The run course is flat with only some minor rises but nothing major. A lot of the course is not shaded so the sun does beat down on you pretty good. It was hot, humid this year.
The bike course had sufficient aid stations as well as the run course. The run course had an aid station every mile.

Hope this helps.

Hi, as a KY veteran, what can you tell us about the bike and run courses (we are 70.3 racers, never did a full IM before)

I did it last year and agree w/ golfpro, except they did run out of water at several water stops in a row on my bike around 70-90.  It killed my race and I ended up walking the last half of the run.  With the heat this might have happened anyway, but hopefully later in race if I had stayed hydrated.  I would hope they've learned from this.  But I will as well and I'll carry an extra bottle.  That was brutle.

Good luck

atodd75 - 2010-12-08 3:48 PM I stayed At the Galt House last year and have a reservation there next year as well. Cant beat the convenience. Several folks had success getting rooms at the Galt house or similar accomodations via priceline last year. For me, the price is reasonable and I prefer the certainty of having everything taken care of well in advance.

totally agree!!
I'm staying there again this year and I already have my reservations.
One less thing to stress about.

golfpro - 2010-12-09 9:27 AM I can't remember where I read it or heard it but it is so true- "IF YOU HAVE TO ASK WHY, YOU WILL NEVER GET IT!"... I remember now, my wife saw someone with a t-shirt in Louisville- so true  and it is my usual remark to those that just don't get it. If you think about it, only athletes truly understand the monumental task at hand to achieve such a feat.

Here is another good one I saw in a shirt-
"Tomorrow I may not swim, bike, or run- but today is not that day!"

Tri Sam - 2010-12-08 6:31 PM Jillian-I just checked out your blog.  Holy shmoly! What a transformation you have made! That's amazing. Good for you; and now on to Ironman! Wow!!!

Thank you Sam, I've worked hard and found my niche in endurance sports, and thanks for the welcome! Thanks for the hotel info, I'm glad its a decent one, I was just looking for closeness to the host hotel and lowest price. I look forward to interacting with you guys, you guys are the only ones that understand and don't think I'm "crazy", "out of my mind" and "why the hell would you pay to do that". Fortunately I have a very supportive husband and family, I am excited about starting my ironman training plan in March, until then, winter building!

Here's a link to a funny IM video that was posted on slowtwitch forum.  Pretty funny.

Any word on slots still available for IMKY 2011?  (as of 12/09)  Seemed to me last year this filled up around January.  Oh BTW - Ditto the previous kudos on the Muncie half - it's a great race with lots of good volunteers - which incidentally is now IM 70.3.  I'll be there.

Wow. That video was so hilarious.  I am glad I have been following this thread.  I did IMKY 2010 and am signed up for IMFL 2011, but have been following this to see what people are talking about and provide tips wherever possible.  Worth it to have seen that video Smile

For those of you talking about hotels.  Stayed at the Brown last year (via priceline...great price) and it was nice and not too far from the Galt House and the convention center.  However, if we (my wife and I) didn't have family there to drive us to/from transition and start before the race, it would have been a lot of walking.  But other than that, great hotel.

I will keep following this thread. Maybe someday will get back to Louisville again! Smile

Looks like a great schedule, Cube.  I haven't put together my entire 2011 schedule, but here is what it looks like so far:

April ~ Martian Marathon, Dearborn MI
June ~ Olympic Tri (location TBD)
July ~ Muncie 70.3
Aug ~ Ironman Lou
Oct ~ *Two Marathons in Two Days ~ Indianapolis (Sat) & Columbus (Sun)

*My husband and I did this last year (09) ~ it was our "entry" into the Marathon Maniacs; lot's of fun!!

Here are the races I am currently expecting to do in 2011.

May: 5/3 Riverbank Run 25k with my wife.
June: Grand Rapids Trithlon (1/2 Iron distance).*
June: Triceratops Triathlon (sprint)
June: Charlevoix 1/2 Marathlon with my wife.
July: Duncan Lake 1/2 Iron distance (formerly Metric Iron) @ my house.*
August: Ironman Louisville*

I think I would like to do an Olympic Distance Triathlon in early-mid August, but I don't want it to screw up my IMLOU training. My main motivation is that I like to race and I don't have many triathlons on my schedule. Any thoughts on doing this so close to IMLOU?

Peace,
~Sam

Sam, You already know the answer to this question - don't do it. July is fine but August is way too close to IMKY. Even if you have the race of your life, what will you learn that you didn't already know? And, assuming that you do have the race of your life, then you'll spend the remaining time hoping that you didn't peak too soon. Heaven forbid you get hurt.

As I said, you know the answer to this question and probably already answered it yourself without realizing it. You mentioned in a previous post that you have already completed your 2011 training plan. I bet you spent days if not weeks putting that plan together. Take a peek ahead at your training plan and you'll likely find your answer.
