Extreme Veteran 701 Raleigh, North Carolina | Subject: RE: Gary's Mentor Group - Closed! Soooo ... I get home on Saturday night late after flying back to Raleigh, NC from Nevada. I'm really tired from all of the skiing during the previous week. My oldest daughter and family are there, and she and the son-in-law want to do a spinning class Sunday morning. Extreme Veteran 701 Raleigh, North Carolina | Subject: RE: Gary's Mentor Group - Closed! GaryRM - 2011-02-02 7:55 AM Shelly, First, congrats again on the bike. As for equipment, there isn't a lot you "have" to have but I will list some of the equipment I have that I use a lot: Speed sensor/Bike computer: I have the garmin speed sensor for my garmin 405 but a bike computer will work also. Good for tracking distance/speed and a great way to track your progress. Should be towards the top of the list. Shelly on the speed sensor/bike computer I have the Polar CS200 model computer for both my road and mountain bikes. Had I known about the Garmin Forerunner 305, I would have probably bought this instead. This works with both biking and running, provides heart rate, speed, you can input a lap length and will provide your estimated time to completion, etc. Amazon has these for ~$130 which is comparable to the Polar computer - http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=garmin+305 |

Pro 4360 Baton Rouge area | Subject: RE: Gary's Mentor Group - Closed! Dorm - Ouch! Nice way to HTFU and get it done! Doubt I would have done so. Take it easy and heal. Hope you had a great time skiing. Marty - Nice job! Running late at lunch to join Masters class and I forgot that Weds are "endurance training" so I get in the pool after they had started. 6x150's which aren't killer for me (two years ago I would never have been able to do it) but on the odd numbered sets you get out and do 20 push-ups (actually 30 but I could/would only do 20) and the even numbered sets was :40 kicking on the wall. This followed by a couple of intervals was all I had time for but it did kick my tail. I don't swim with the class enough. The class really gets you out of your comfort zone which is something I really need. Shelly - thought of one more thing: Bike Bell! Ring! Ring!! |

Pro 4360 Baton Rouge area | Subject: RE: Gary's Mentor Group - Closed! SRD for me. Weather family has really messed up my schedule and I always strive for one day a week off. Haven't had one since last Tuesday so plans cancelled and I am sitting on my tail tonight (after I do all of the Honey-do items of course!). Kids are off today due to the cold. Not sure why they closed their school today. Hopefully everyone is safe and warm! |

Member 20 North Dallas Forty | Subject: Update and Tip Snow/ice bound for 4 days in a row. Will try to hit the trainer and treadmill later. Found a GREAT free App for iphone. It's called Daily Burn and it has a great way of tracking calories (For those trying to cut weight like me) Also it tracks calories burned in your training. |

Pro 4360 Baton Rouge area | Subject: RE: Gary's Mentor Group - Closed! Hey all! Kids off of school for 2nd day in a row. Working from home this afternoon. Enjoyed my SRD yesterday and tempted to extend it into today but will probably run tonight and ride tomorrow. I don't envy the weather all of you are dealing with. Its cold and wet here but for running purposes, easily dealt with. Would not ride in this weather (at least not a tri bike). Take care everyone! |

Expert 750 Hammond | Subject: RE: Update and Tip Luna, All I can say is that you people in the cold weather just totally impress me. It was 33 degrees here and I couldn't talk myself into going for my swim session because it was just too cold. I can't even begin to imagine running in 20 degree weather with ice and snow. Maybe that's why I can't really run- lol. Hope the weather is better than you are expecting tomorrow. Have a good run. Shelly Athleta Iron Girl New Orleans - sprint - May 22 |

Expert 750 Hammond | Subject: New Bike drama....m Well, I am so frustrated. Thought my bike wasn't here yet and I want it like yesterday- lol. So I call the LBS just to check and actually the bike was in, they just hadn't gotten around to calling me yet. Of course by the time I found out it was too late to go pick it up and get fitted today. I have to work tomorrow so now I have to wait until Monday. Not good for my February challenge. Then I started doing some more research on the bike I purchased and I find out that what the salesman told me about the bike was not true. I was really pretty upset. When I bought the bike he told me not buy anything with less than Shimano 105 components and that this bike had better than that. So I go home and research some more on my bike and find out that the components are Shimano Tiagra which are not better than 105. So when I called to see if the bike was in, I asked about this. To make a long story short it involved several phone calls back and forth between the LBS and me and they did admit that the components were lesser quality than I was told. Needless to say I was very upset. Initially they gave me several options none of which I was thrilled with. I was soo disappointed because I really wanted the bike I had chosen because of the look/ ride and colors but I didn't want to sacrifice componentry for looks. That would just be stupid in my opinion. Thankfully though, this store really does have great customer service and stands behind their word and bikes. The manager called and offered me the upgrade to the Shimano 105 components for their cost. So I did have to spend a little more money, but I now will have the bike frame and components I want and it was less than any other carbon bike I could find with the same components. He said that the sales guy readily admitted it was his error and that he was very sorry, he is new and young and really did believe the Tiagra was the better components. Since he gave me wrong info the manager felt that they owed me the option of the upgrade at cost. So I'm back to being sooo excited about my even better bike but now have to wait until Monday to pick it up. Shelly Athleta Iron Girl New Orleans- May 22- sprint |

Will get my ride in later but most likely will be on the trainer. Still wet out there and now a bit icy. Hmm, wonder if I can wear my wetsuit on the ride? |

Shelly - Can you tell me how much they want for this "upgrade"? and what they actually will upgrade? Sorry this is taking the tarnish off the new bike high but you need to protect yourself. If you want to take this off line you can PM me. Vet school here had their annual open house and as part of it they had their dog parade of breeds. My daughter took our blood hound and was part of the show. They both had a great time. |

Expert 750 Hammond | Subject: RE: Gary's Mentor Group - Closed! I agree Gary and I was/am still aggravated about it all but they offered to completely cancel the sale or put me on another bike so I guess he figured that was fair enough. I still plan to say more about it when I go Monday. I am at work for a twelve hour shift so I can't talk until I get off but I would appreciate your take on it all. I'll pm you my number when I get off and figure out how to do it- lol. ThanksShelly |
