It seems that the people who don't use libraries think that no one needs them. Why don't they ask the 300+K who do use us.kns57 - 2011-07-18 5:01 PM Will someone tell out county commissioners to give the library more money in their budget so that we can hire more staff, so that I can spend more time back on BT? I don't even take lunch breaks anymore without working through them. I hope they will listen to me better than the idiotic stupid inane County commissioners in this demented, back wood, hick, illiterate county of mine did. They are suggesting that we don't need libraries at all. I am pretty sure that most of them can't read beyond the daily headlines and then have a very low comprehension rate. |

MotoQueen 13195 | Subject: RE: Ghoulies are workin' out in July! ironannekidd - 2011-07-19 10:58 AM So here is the situation. I have a horrible, miserable, miserably horrible job. I have been trying to get out of it for 2 and a half years, basically since I got here. I am currently 0/8 on interviews when I apply for a job. The past 3 jobs I have gotten is because someone sees my resume out on Monster or somewhere and calls me up and talks to me for a bit and then offers me a job. There is a company that has a contract here that has been trying to hire me for a year. For one reason or another things haven't worked out. One of their people left a voicemail yesterday and I just called back. They have 2 positions open right now. One is here, but it would be working for a different group with different people. There would be some travel involved, and it would be mostly paper pushing. The other job is a little closer to home, though more traffic, and I would be a systems administrator, which is what I desperately want to do. The job here I could start immediately, the job at the other base won't be open until Sept 1. I can suck it up for 6 more weeks here. The third fork in the fire is a job working for a company I know is reputable. One of my best friends works there and they are going to have a network administrator job open soon. She gave her boss my resume, and he gave it to the hiring manager who already contacted her about me. The job hasn't officially been posted yet so he can't contact me. She believes this may be a junior position, so it may not pay as much as the other 2, but she says I would have a great boss and really good co-workers, plus she would be there. Here's hoping that something pans out in the very near future for me!!! Ann, sounds like things may be taking a positive turn for you job wise. Keeping fingers crossed. |

Elite 3144 | Subject: RE: Ghoulies are workin' out in July! DRIVE BY!!! This is the third day in a row I've navigated to the Village, but the first I didn't get pulled away by something before I said "hi." One of these days I'm hoping to check in when people are actually around! I've got a lot of coals in the fire right now, as usual, but the big updates are as follows: -We got a second dog. I don't have a compressed pic yet but he looks like a blonde "Toto." His name is Rags. -I'm applying to start a Master's Degree this fall at UCSD in the Engineering school. If accepted, it will be a HUGE opportunity as it will provide access to many big local companies and Defense agencies, giving me some options when this gig is over in a couple years. -The weather's still perfect. Just thought I'd throw that in there. I think that's about it, except of course that I need to get out and s/b/r. Talk to you all soon!!! |

TOM!!!!! I'm here, too. But jst barely. Sees I've had the same issue with getting pulled away recently. Very cool about grad school. What type of engineering? The major is called Structural Health Monitoring, and it's an interdisciplinary degree with classes from Structural Eng and Electrical/Computer Eng. The short version of the curriculum: life-cycle development and management of aerospace, civil, and structural projects. This fall is the inaugural class so it'll be an adventure! |

Master 3479 Utah | Subject: RE: Ghoulies are workin' out in July! ironannekidd - 2011-07-19 11:03 AM So worst case scenario is I'm stuck here for 5 more weeks. If I take the second job, the one I want, I would put in my resignation and be done Aug 24, be unemployed while I'm at Robin's, come back from NC, have a day off to relax, get the kids off to school for the first day, then start new job the next day. That would be the perfect end to summer vacation, don't you think?
Oh yeah! Sending good gouhlie job juju from here. |

The best kind of adventure, for sure! Or at the very least the homeworkiest kind Maybe by the end of this two year course (if I get in) I'll realize I don't need to go to school anymore... |

Champion 16743 Somewhere I can be nekidd | Subject: RE: Ghoulies are workin' out in July! Speaking of books... Can someone recommend a series for an 11 year old boy. He just finished the Legends of the Guardians series. He loved it, but he has always had a thing for owls. He has read the Harry Potter Books, The Chronicles of Narnia, and the Percy Jackson books. He prefers series over just a single book. He is asking me for something to read, and I don't want to turn down that request.
