I like the sub 14 concept!  56 when I did my 1st Ironman "Florida 2011" and came in at 14:01 something.  Louisville or Madison 2013 will be my next!..  Good luck to you in August....

I was 47 for IMLV 2010 and was 15:07. 49 in 2012 and hoping for sub 14. I've heard of trying not to peak to soon, but this is ridiculous.

IMKY 2011 was my first Ironman. I finished with 2:15 to spare before midnight.  Now that I have a better idea of what I'm doing, my goal for 2012 IMKY is also sub 14 hrs.  Big goal but will work my butt off to achieve.  In any case, anything faster than 16:57:45 will be a PR for me!  Cool

I will be racing 45-49 AG this summer at IMLOU.  This will be my second Ironman.  I have raced mostly half irons for the past several seasons.  Ironman is so different in opinion than any other distance.  It's so hard to predict a time.  It's such a long day, and with the IMLOU heat and rolling bike course, I think that adds to the unpredictability.  I went sub-12 at IMFL, but at IMLOU, I just want to finish with a smile on my face!  I do, however,  plan to be very, very, very bike fit for IMLOU.  That doesn't mean I will neglect the swim and the run, but I think being super bike fit will increase my changes of having a more successful marathon.

Looking forward to hearing how everyone's training progresses!

Im in the same AG (45-49) this will be my first Full Iron. Came from the southwest sub.'s of Chicago and now living in Mid-Tennessee. plenty of hills for training. What do you think is the best bike program to follow...but more importantly, the best cassette of gears for IMLOU?

Wooden Dragon,

I live in the central midlands of SC with plenty of nice rolling hills.  I have a compact setup that works very well on a Trek Speed Concept Carbon Tri bike.  The set up: Chain rings 50/34.  The rear cassette: 11/28.  This is a 10 speed.  I am planning Louisville in 2013 but would bet that this gear setup would be perfect for that area of the country.

At IM Louisville last year, I used an 11/28 with a standard crank and was quite pleased.  Right now I'm experimenting with a compact crank and a little different gear choice and so far I'm not quite as happy with the setup.

Amy,

Are you using a standard or compact crank?

I'm running a compact (50/34) and a 12/25 and not quite as happy with it as I was with my standard (53/39) and 11/28.

Alan

ETA:  My current cassette may be an 11/25...not 100% sure.

I did Louisville in 2010 using a 12/25 and standard crank, will do it this year using a 11/28, same on I used in Branson Half this year.  Hoping it will give me fresher legs for the run.

any feelings about the "egg" shaped crank. I think its call Rotor or something like that? Im getting questionable knees from the years of abuse. That with the 11/28 cassette?

Anyone have any idea where registration stands?  I survived Lville in 2010 finishing in just over 15 and am considering coming back for some revenge.  Other than calling the RD anyone know where that info can be found?  I'm hoping to sign up around March 1 if it's still open.  Otherwise, I'm going to stick with a few HIM's.

There is a guy posting on Slowtwitch that claims he knows the RD and earlier this week he said it was approx. 90% full.  That seems reasonable to me.

WTC won't tell you any longer. I received this on 2/2:

Hello Joseph,

Thank you for your e-mail. Due to a recent policy change I am unable to release this information. However, in previous years Ironman Louisville has sold out a few months prior to the event.

Pretty lame if you ask me.

Thanks guys.  In 2010, I think it filled up near the end of Feb.  Appreciate the info from both of you guys.  Hopefully it will be open Mar. 1.  If so, I'll be talking to you!

Registered yesterday!  With three sprints and three super-sprints in my pocket I thought it was time to step up my game.  Looking forward to a long-hot Summer of trianing.
