Elite 2673 Muskego, WI | Subject: RE: Swim Challenge - Midwest AWESOME RUN!!!! Great picture of you guys. You both look all decked out in the latest in outdoor winter running fashions, so there's NO EXCUSES that you don't have the equipment. Good luck to your wife as well! |

Expert 1180 Iowa | Subject: RE: Swim Challenge - Midwest Terrific run! My personal opinion about running on snow and ice, which like all of my opinions has no basis in scientific fact, is that running on snow and ice is a great form of cross training because all of the slight foot imblances force you to work small muscle groups you wouldn't ordinarily stress on a flat, trouble-free run. So you got stronger too! |

Expert 1135 Delano, MN | Subject: RE: Swim Challenge - Midwest This one is too good not to share (even though its at my expense). For the past week I have been having trouble with shortness of breath as i was swimming. Today about 2/3 of the way through my first set (400 yds) I took a HUGE mouthful of water. I tried to swim through it but I was choking too hard so I stopped in the shallow end coughed and hacked and then resumed swimming. I had one of my best days ever today and didn't have any shortness of breath after that. Does that mean I have to choke on some water to keep my swimming going ? The old guy next me sure got a kick out of it when I told him that was the worst drink I had ever had! |

Great job! |

Expert 1180 Iowa | Subject: RE: Swim Challenge - Midwest oipolloi - 2005-12-12 8:05 AM Well......I did it. I ran outside in the cold and ice. Morey has been bugging me to get my girly @ss off of the treadmill and go play in the snow. Sunday my wife had to run a 10 miler (she's training for Boston marathon). I decided I'd run with her for a portion of the run. After running about 5 miles I decided to go all the way. 10 miles! Total time 1hr 23min. It was a fantastic run and I really enjoyed the crunching snow and ice beneath my feet. It seemed to make the run more Zen because I had to concentrate on every foot step. It felt great. Thanks for the encouragement Morey! Here's a pic of the wife and I at the end of the run. Great pic, it sure looks cold, lonely and desolate. Good thing you brought someone with you! |

Elite 2673 Muskego, WI | Subject: RE: Swim Challenge - Midwest FYI Morey sounding off. I am more than 60% toward my goal as of today. I will not let the team down. I'm doing this all in fractions and percentages because my ACTUAL yardage totals pale in comparison to all of you swimming blizzards. Man, the yardage totals and time you all spend in the pool is inspiring! Great job everyone and keep up the good work. We've got a BLIZZARD scheduled for tonight/tomorrow so get your swims in while you can! |

Y'all should have set goals that did not enable you to complete them in less than half the month...that just isn't right... I planned accordingly, knowing my month was gone after Dec. 17th. In four days I'll have two daughters, one son-in-law and a 3-month old granddaughter in the house until Dec 28, then I'm out of town for 2 days. In addition to work, shopping, other training and numerous holiday and family commitments, I am swimming at least 3x/week to meet my goal in a very busy month. It doesn't matter if you meet your goal in one week or four, just as long as you complete it in the month of December. Call us sandbaggers if you must, but I prefer to think of us as goal-oreinted overachievers! Edited by triman50 2005-12-13 10:41 AM |

Elite 2673 Muskego, WI | Subject: RE: Swim Challenge - Midwest triman50 - 2005-12-13 10:39 AM EXACTLY! Personally, I made my goal difficult but attainable assuming the last week and a half of the month was a washout. And, my goal vs. WHAT I WOULD HAVE DONE OTHERWISE (no swimming at all) is a HUGE increase in production for me. I see a bunch of people pounding out 2000+ yard swim sessions on this team. And, getting in swim sessions during otherwise terrible weather that would leave most people at home. If that's sandbagging then I hope to someday be a sandbagger like the rest of the Blizzards. |

Y'all should have set goals that did not enable you to complete them in less than half the month...that just isn't right... Not sandbagging. As I explained in another post, my goal was five 2000 yard swims. I'd been swimming once a week (except for almost 4 weeks with no swims) and knew that we'd be leaving for vacation (and maybe not have access to a fitness pool) after 12/19. To get my five swims in, I'd have to average twice a week the first two and a half weeks. Sandbagging would have been to pledge my normal 2k for the three weeks. |
