Sorry my last week's totals are VERY late but I figure late is better than never, much like I did the previous week where I still wasn't understanding that Steve wasn't checking our BT logs.

S:
15300.00 M
5h 40m
B:
63.01 Mi
3h 41m 49s
R:
23.51 Mi
3h 52m 26s
Str:
25m

Since it's considered a "sport" the fact that I dedicated 3 hrs 26min to indoor biking (recumbent or spin class since Mom says thats soo much safer...) and an hour and a half to the elliptical. School started back for me this week and I'm in 5 college courses, so I'm very happy that this is my recovery week. However I'm not on any official training plan so I just calculated 25% less than all my durations and I'm trying to throw them into my week. Seems like alot still.

1:35 on the trainer doing intervals this morning. My legs were really fatigued and I hate to fight myself mentally the entire time but especially from the 1:10 mark on. I had planned on doing longer but overall I'm happy with my effort.

238 watt average, 414 max watts, 19.13 mph, 94 average cadence, 139 average heart rate and 153 max heart rate. The heart rate for this level shows how fatigued I was. Normally this would be at least 3 beats lower and up to as much as 9 lower.

Glad tomorrow is only swimming.

You guys make me sick with envy, I still ride a Cannondale Touring bike with clipon Aero bars. The Cannondale Slice is my dream bike but I can't get that one past my wife. i'm hoping that maybe with some good results this coming year she'll soften a little to the idea.

Got this last year at my LBS...has served me well thus far.

...while we're discussing bikes, can anybody recommend a good set of aerobars that would fit this bike?  In other words, something < $200 because I don't want to purchase $700 aerobars to put on a $1000 bike!

So I don't know if this has been discussed yet but what are we all riding?

Mine is a Felt S22 - pretty much just an entry-level tri bike, but then, I'm pretty much just an entry-level triathlete.

Most people on this site were an entry-level triathlete not too long ago.  Nothing wrong with that...you're doing something that less than 1% of the people on this planet are able to!

Weird knee pain after a 5 mile run this morning on the treadmill. Upper Zone 2 run @ a 10 min/mile pace.  Was fine when I finished.  Walked up from the basement to the kitchen was still fine.  A few minutes later when I was about to get into the shower it hit pretty hard, almost needed to sit down.  Pain went completely away in about 30 seconds.   I've gotten these a few times but mainly after short runs.  Never after anything 10+ miles.

My travel schedule just got nuts from this weekend through mid February. Pretty bummed, but hey the job pays for this hobby. Will need to keep up the running and will bring the P90X bands & DVD's for hotel room work outs.

No worries, I'll add them to the group log so our totals are as accurate as possible.

Where was the pain in your knee?  On the outside of the knee or elsewhere?  I ended up with excruciating IT band pain around the outside of my knee during a half marathon in November.  It took three days before it went back to normal, though I still get a little twinge here and there.

It seems that the problem was my shoes.  I didn't think I'd wear them out in 6 months since I just got into running, but that appears to be the case.  I took a closer look at my shoes and saw that the foam was compressed with wrinkles.  As soon as I got a new pair of shoes, I was fine.  I wore the old pair one last time for a cold, muddy and rainy January 1st "race" and sure enough the pain came back during the run.

I have intermittant IT Band issues as well but mine is from weak hip muscles. Been trying to build them up with exercises and stretches.

I got this bike last year as I was jealous my hubby won a brand new Cannondale bike and he was bragging on his new bike and he is not a serious biker.  Of course I went and had to get a better bike then him.

It was a combination of both, inside & outside pain, hard to describe.  Same sneakers, I either get the post run pain or I don't.  Im just happy it never happens during a run or after long runs.  And since it shows up in less than 25% of my runs and goes away quickly I wont worry about it too much for now.

Good workout today! 30mins of snow shoveling, Snowblower broke! then off for a 5.5 mile run through 4-6 inches of snow, works the quads high stepping the whole time and then another 30mins of shoveling to remove the 2 inches that fell while I was running. Winter has finally arrived in the north east, I thought it would never come.

Hope everyone is having a great day! you all have some nice bikes, can't wait to get good enough to warrant a tri bike!

Now that's inspiring. I was debating just running on the treadmill tomorrow with more rain coming.

Great trainer ride this morning.  26 miles in 1:05, avg cadence 80, avg HR 145.  Did the same CT file that I tried on Tuesday.  Made it through the entire thing compared to only 15 miles on Tuesday.  Difference was doing it in the morning vs. at night.

3 hr conference call coming up then off to Mt. Snow Vermont for some skiing with the family & friends.

Have a great training weekend everyone!

Thanks Scott, I am one of those crazy people that enjoys being out in winter storms, If I can't be in the mountains in it then running in it is the next best thing.

Steve, enjoy that fresh snow in V T!

So I swam for the fourth time this week today and decided to time a 400m swim. I did it in 3:30, I believe that is 30 seconds faster then my time last year. I love seeing progres it helps keep things moving forward. I ended up with 1500m and it felt great. I have ran fourtimes this week also, I have been keeping them to 30 minutes or so. Today I felt good but started having little pains so I stopped. It was mainly my feet, I had old shoes on that for some reason I had a hard time getting rid of. I took them off in the locker room and tossed them so I wouldnt be tempted to wear them again. I ended up with 3 miles in 30 minutes this morning with warm up and cool down. Happy training

I think you have your numbers wrong. The world record for 400 meters is 3:40 and the 100 meter record is 47 seconds. So your pace per hundred would be faster than the 100 record.

Are you in an Olympic pool that's 50 meters long? They don't have 25 meter pools. The pool I swim in is 25 yards. I can do 200 yards in about 2:50 and I can do 400 in about 6:00. That's absolutely max effort where I'm hypoxic at the end. On a 85-90% test I'm about 3:10 for a 200 and 6:45 for a 400.

I'm not saying you're not faster than me, just that you're not faster than Michael Phelps. Tongue out

I did 7.15 mile run this morning. The first mile and the last 1.15 were at 10 minute pace to warm up and cool down. They miles a mall and there's literally no feet ascended. The middle 5 miles I ran at 8:38 pace and the feet ascended was 184. That works out to over 36 ft ascended per mile for the 5 miles, AKA one hilly b!tch. The half marathon I'm running in March ascends 177 total feet for example. I want to run it sub 8:00. Although the ascents per mile average out a lot less than this run there are three major hills that make up nearly all the feet ascended while the rest of the course is pancake flat. So this was a good test and harder than the race since at last those three hills are staggered.

Embarassed woohoo new world record? Just kidding I had a big typo there it was only 200 yards Embarassed at least I could give you a good laugh this morning. You are also right about the pool length I called and asked the gym. This whole time I thought it was 25 m, that will change things a little on recording distances won't it. Back to your regularly scheduled programs I guess. Wink

LOL no worries. I had a feeling it wasn't meters because that's rare unless you're training at a college. Even with that I figured it was either a typo or you were counting each length as 50 and not 25. 3:30 for 200 yards is still a really good time.

That's awesome great job! I love seeing the improvement too. I think in swimming it means more to me because I'm not a swimmer and the faster I go the more I want to do it. Keep it up brother!

So yesterday I had a routine dental cleaning scheduled with my appointment at 10am...6 hours later I walk out of the Dentists office with my first ever root canal, a filling on another tooth and an appointment to come back to get some more work done. Needless to say there was no way I was feeling up to running or biking last night. So tonight I'll probably be out riding with my homies and tomorrow I have a nice 30 mile ride scheduled with my beautiful wife.Temps are supposed to be in the mid 70's.

I enoy reading everyone's posts about what you do. It motivates me to not slack and to really push myself. I appreciate people who work hard and don't make excuses and get out in the snow and run. NO EXCUSES baby. Love it. Man I hate working on days like this. I want to get out and ride!
