I was thinking that or on my bike on the trainer, cause aren't you supposed to pee on the bike too. Shelly |

Expert 750 Hammond | Subject: RE: Oriolepwr and QuincyF's Magical Mys-tri Tour "The Sequel"-OPEN Sarah73 - 2012-04-27 1:43 PM OK... a real question! The website for the race says that they will be starting the swim in a wave start. Is that kind of like the corral system for large marathons/races? How do I decide where/when to start? I don't know what my open water swim for 600 yards is...should I just give them my pool time, or should I try to convert it myself? Is there a correlation between pool and open water times? I'm assuming I am going to be quite a bit slower in the lake, but I really have no idea how it will compare. Sarah, Usually you are assigned a wave according to your age and gender. They will tell you what wave you are in and you will wear a certain color swim cap that marks your wave. This helps them keep track of everyone in the water. It will all be included in your race packet when you pick it up. Your swim speed really won't have much to do with it but yes I think most new to triathlon people are at least a slight bit slower in the lake than in the pool. The more experienced swimmers probably are not, but I think a good majority of the newbies are. I am much slower but I have OWS panic issues- who would have thought it cause I grew up swimming in lakes, bayous, rivers etc. Something about being in an area with hundreds of other people with water over my head in freezing cold temperatures- hehe. I do fine but I am a good bit slower than in the pool. Shelly Edited by fitmomma2010 2012-04-28 12:14 AM |

Hi tour guides, I would like any comments about my transition towel set up. I like it so far, but since it's my first TRY (pun intended) Weather predicted to be low 40's and damp, indoor pool swim, then out in the cold! Bottom Row: Socks & Cycle Helmet cap, Leg warmers (circa 1980's, LOL), Long sleeve cycling jersey Middle Row: Helmet, glasses, regular and winter cycling gloves, cycling shoes Top Row: Visor, # belt, Ghost 4's Sarah, MAY THE LEGS BE WITH US! |

Every one in a while have to do that! BTW thx for your help with ipad for, atting thing. Works great now!
Well I feel super special when you do that. I'm not like that Tom character, whoever he is, saying he ain't feelin the love- hehe. And you are very welcome. It was driving me crazy too. I was posting with dashes and all sorts of crazy stuff just to make it format halfway decent, and then one day reading some other post it was mentioned kind of as an aside in the posters message. They were just making a comment about having to switch back and forth when they got on their iPad and the light bulb went off. I felt like I won the lottery when I figured it out. Doesn't take much to make me happy as you can tell. Shelly Go ahead - stab me in the heart - I HAVE BATTERY BACKUP - HA Love ya back |

Bottom Row: Socks & Cycle Helmet cap, Leg warmers (circa 1980's, LOL), Long sleeve cycling jersey Middle Row: Helmet, glasses, regular and winter cycling gloves, cycling shoes Top Row: Visor, # belt, Ghost 4's Sarah, MAY THE LEGS BE WITH US! Is transition inside or outside??? I don't hate your concept, work from the bottom of the towel up. I do the same thing. Only difference is I stack my stuff in piles and work top to bottom, but stick with your concept...it makes sense. Bottom Row: Socks & Cycle Helmet cap, Leg warmers (circa 1980's, LOL) (He's a maniac, and tri-ing like he's never tri'ed before) , Long sleeve cycling jersey Middle Row: Helmet, glasses, regular and winter cycling gloves, cycling shoes Maybe put the helmet upside down and put glasses in it...so you don't forget them??? Top Row: Visor, # belt, Ghost 4's If transition is outside, might want to put your Ghost's on top of your race number...or your helmet if you're putting it on before the bike. Overall, I'm impressed, you've got it wired! ETA: Some folks keep a water bottle on their towel to squirt feet off after the swim...if you're running thru sand or dirt after the swim, it's not a bad thing to have ready to go. I also might have a gu laying there, but I pretty much quit eating and drinking in transition...I try to do all of that on the bike or run now to save time, but it doesn't take up any space really. Master 2484 St. Louis | Subject: RE: Oriolepwr and QuincyF's Magical Mys-tri Tour "The Sequel"-OPEN I'll join since I'll be doing the Door County HIM in July with Dave. NAME: (ransick) Mike, 46, St. Louis STORY: Casual jogger and mountain biker for years but continued to gain weight. Decided I wanted to do a tri when I was 40, went to the pool twice and gave up after not being able to swim more than a lap without gasping for air. A couple years later a friend talked me in to running a half marathon. Having never run more than about 5 miles, it was a huge accomplishment and I immediately set my sites back on triathlons of April that year. I figured I would be able to do a tri by late summer but underestimated how long it would take me to learn to swim. It was 6 months before I had a breakthrough where I could swim more than 400 yards without stopping! Having missed the season, I just kept on training, bought a road bike in January (didn't want to shell out the money if I never was able to pick up swimming), and did my first tri 13 months after setting out to do it. FAMILY STATUS: Married 24 years with two children ages 20 and 15 CURRENT TRAINING: Following Gale Bernhardt HIM plan 2011 RACES NOLA 70.3 and a couple Oly's 2012 RACES: Effingham IL sprint, Carlyle IL Oly, Cohasset MA sprint, Door County 70.3, RnR St. Louis half mary WEIGHTLOSS: I need to lose about 10 more pounds (probably 15). I was doing really well (down 6) then traveled 4 of the last 6 weeks and put 5 of it back on. WHAT WILL MAKE ME A GOOD MENTEE: I've done a few tri's and love to share my experience plus I still have plenty to learn (specially about fueling during longer races).
