We need a TRI club in Augusta!

I'm a long time runner and moved to TRI after watching my daughter fininsh the 2008 Lake Placid IM.  She did well so I bought a bike, joined the Y and tried one.  I'm hooked (I was getting burned out running.)  I love multi sport training.

Now I need to get fast Laughing

LOL! Hi there!! How are things with you?
Yep-I let work get in the way over the past three years...I know, I know-no excuse.
Another new item-I am a Mommy now!!!!!
My daughter is now 5 months old-and the reason for me to really get control of my life. She really puts it all in perspective. Naturally, Chris has had her decked out in Auburn gear since day 1 and her college plan is already laid out-lol!!!!
So here I am, getting back into shape and focusing on changing my lifestyle to be more healthier and calm (LOL!!!).
So good to see you are still with the program!
Have to run now -more later!

I am particularly looking for someone in my area to ride with. I am slow and definitely a beginner on the bike. I am looking to either Callaway or Lake Lanier sprints for my first. Thanks!

Anne -

For rides in your area, check with your local bike shops and/or tri club (Atlanta Tri Club or Peachtree Tri Club might be closest to you) to see if there are any local rides that you could join.  Contact info for tri clubs is listed in the FAQ at the top of this forum.  Also, you can post a ride on the Georgia forum anytime and sometimes folks will join and sometimes not.  And a third alternative is to drive up to Roswell to ride with me and Nat.  I usually do the Roswell ride on Sunday afternoons and the North Atl Multisport Club (NAMC) weeknight rides start back up soon (possibly on a new night).  I know that there are a bunch of newbies in the NAMC so that might also be a good avenue for ride buddies.

Thanks, Steph! Er, browndog.. .

Will look into the clubs. thanks for the pointers, and the offer to ride with y'all. Don't see a weekend ride happening soon, though (soccer on Sat. AND Sundays through May). Maybe a weeknight? Are your rides no drop or do you have beginner groups?

Oh, and one other thing - I have a crappy old mtn bike from college that I have outfitted with road tires. . . don't see buying a new bike until I am sure I like riding that much. Will that make me a laughingstock? :-)

People won't laugh.  I saw a couple people on mtn bikes riding the roswell route last night.  It's harder to ride in a group of road bikes though because the mountain bike is slower.  If you can get the road bikes to follow you on a shortcut through the woods you'll beat 'em.

Atlanta
Subject: RE: Introduce yourself: Georgians
Hello everyone, I moved to Atlanta from Chicago over the winter.
I look forward to checking out races in this part of the country.

Name: J.D.
Age: 39
Hometown: Detroit, Michigan (by way of Boston, MA and Chicago, IL)

Current City: Marietta, GA -- the locals seem to refer to the area as "East Cobb" rather than Marietta around here. I guess it seems classier

Favorite Training Places: Columns Drive, Chattahoochee Rec Areas -- Johnson Ferry, La Fitness Pool, LA Fitness and Gold's Gym spin classes (I'm an instructor), the hills in my neighborhood

Triathlons Completed:
10 years of triathlons in the Chicago area and the Boston area
I've done Accenture Chicago 9 times
Last year I did the Olympic distance races in LA, NYC, Chicago, Detroit and Memphis in May.
I've done Steelhead Half Ironman twice
In 2007 I did Ironman Wisconsin

Current Goals: Stay active. Do some races in the Georgia area. I don't really have enough goals this year, but I train a lot.

I am going to do some of the Race the Park races this year as well as Peachtree City in May and Chattanooga in July.

Oh, I want to add that I am a HUGE Michigan State University fan! Good luck in the Final Four! GO GREEN!

Welcome Action figure!  The best part of training down heerre in the dirrrty south is that its the best place to mimic Kona conditions...Nuth'n like 100% humidity and 90 degree training days!  The other cool thing is that we are easy driving distance to Florida where there are some really good races.  This year GA has a new Ironman in Augusta race that should be fun...You will like it here...Lots more outdoor training days!
