My first race isn't until May but I needed a wet suit for it. The swim is in a big pool. They fill it with 55 degree well water first week of May and only heats up by the sun. Last year it was low 60's. My wetsuit came yesterday and it looks sweet. Feels weird. Now can't wait for the weather to warm up so I can try it out.

I'd be trying it out in a pool just to make sure before too long a period of time goes by and you can't return it. You gotta love new stuff gets you motivated.

Upped my swim yardage today. Went up to 1540 yards. Arms felt like they were going to fall off by the time I stopped. Will stay at this level at least for a couple week til it becomes easier. Play on a spin class and some weights tomorrow. Warm weekend will get outside and run hopefully.

Jupiter and Mars finally aligned this morning and I was able to get a run in the great outdoors first thing this morning from my house. So, my dog was finally able to go we had a blast although there was plenty of black ice on the trail still was a good run. 34 minutes. Have a 97 minute bike ride scheduled for tomorrow so I'll get my 48 swim in the morning then later I'll take my bike out for my first outside ride of the year. Jetpack you are so lucky. With the weather finally breaking it's now time to get really serious with the training.

Same here but with a little rain. Went out on a hilly trail run and was muddy with a little ice left on it but well worth the strugle to run outside. Not taking the bike out yet but will very soon.

How's everybody doing?  Like Budda said it's pretty quit around here.  That can be a good thing.  It means your out working out..................right!?

Pat, glad to see your swim yardage going up.  I'm tryin my best to stick with the plan and follow my coaches workouts.    Just back from a 3 hr ride and 30 min run.  Not too bad but I didn't push myself hard engough.  I was supposed to simulate race day.  Never really got into zone 3 on the HR but the legs felt like they were.  So who's got the dvd's?  Kim?  Who's getting them next?

Is it getting hot in here or is that just global warming?

Quick update for myself. Headed for an hour workout with a swim coach. Looking forward to it, seeing as I hit the pool yesterday. Warmed up with a 100m, then 4 x50's then cooled down with a 100. Problem remains the breathing. I don't really feel fatigued physically but the breathing is ridiculous.

51 degrees here today, so headed out for a 40 minute run. Bike tomorrow for the first time with the new bike and cannot wait.

Hey Ty, how much lifting do you do while training?? Free weights?

The triathlon clinic last weekend was fantastic and met several very nice triathlete's there. They have recruited me, lol, and i'll be joining them often for workouts!
Take care everyone,
Steve

I would have killed for some global warming a few weeks ago. I have the month long swim clinic starting on Tuesday, I can't wait. I'm still waiting for a crab dip recipe and an update to your audio file. I have 48 in the pool and 97 on the bike tomorrow and 30 on the couch/bed should be a great day.

FINALLY was able to ride outside today, YEAH. The trail is still icy in spots and I should have used my shoe covers but I was still able to go for an hour. Boy does that feel good.

Back at it after a few day of not feeling right. Body was aching and back hurting. Got back into the pool and turned out the laps. Feeling pretty good expect still start to hypervenilate everyonce in a while. Try to slow my breathing down and get it back under control.

Decided to take my bike and try to get it set up better. Not feeling comfortable on it right now. Feel all streached out and not comfortable. I'll see what they can do. Should be done by the end of the month.

Kim, how are you liking the DVD's?

Had my first of four swim lessons monday and thought it was EXTREMELY helpful. Headed to the gym now to practice what I learned.

Unfortunately had to put my 7 year old lab to sleep yesterday, terminal cancer, so a little sluggish today. But going to put that energy into my swimming.

Seriously, thanks to all of you for posting your thoughts. It seriously makes a difference for me to know there are others with the same goals and aspirations as myself. Thanks guys!
Steve

Steve,
I am so sorry to hear about your pet. It is hard to put a beloved animal to sleep. Keep up the good attitude.

Tyler,
I am almost done with the dvds. They have been awesome and have helped put some much needed motivation back into my workouts.
Let me know the next person to get them and I will send them off later this week.

Steve, sorry to hear about your dog. They do become part of your family don't they.

Had my first swim class last night. Turns out is was swimming lik this " / ". this coach is haveing me arch my back and it seems to be helping alot. I felt much faster at the end of the class than at the beginning.

Tyler, the run is the Secret Service 5K in Tampa. I was schuled to be down there that week so I'll get my Plant City customer in on the 18th and hold over for the run. I'll be signing up today or tomorrow. It's on Active.Com, I'll make that my first 5K of the year.

Good run this morning just for you Tyler it was 35 degrees. 43 Minutes 3.8 miles had two Coyote's cross the trail about 30 yards ahead of me and the dog. 40 yards later spotted a mink. Overall a good run today.

Hey Guys,
where is everyone?
Buddaha sounds like your workouts are going great. I'm still trying to get used to the heavier training load. I was pretty worn out last week, but the weight started to come off and that's always nice.
I got some new Speedplay pedals and cleats a couple of weeks ago and really love them. They are super light weight and easy to clip in and out of. The weather hasn't been nice enough to take the bike out, but I have been out running a couple of times.

Question...Has anyone ever heard of Active Release Technique aka: ART? I am scheduled to have a session on Tuesday on my calves. I run with a lot of pain and am super suseptable to shin splints. I really hope that the ART helps.
Since I have to travel up to Grand Rapids for the session, I am going to check out some new bikes and have a fitting. I am still having a few comfort issues on the bike that I am hoping to get resolved. With all this work, I a just might have a pain free summer!!

I've heard of ART on a podcast of Get Your Geek on. Tri-Geek Kahuna stated that he has had pain in his calf for some time and just thought it was something he had to deal with. He went and had ART done for a couple of sessions and said he was running "pain-free". Hope it cures what's hurting you.

Been a crazy weekend around here. Not much time to work out. Had to work both day and went out to watch B-Ball. Got back into it today with a hard spin class.

Joined a local Tri group this week. Going to go on my first group ride Thur. 30 mile in the evening. Should be interesting seeing that I have not done anything over 22miles.

adamo - 2007-03-19 2:51 PM Tyler, I am done with the DVDs. Let me know who is next on the list and I will send them out.

 Kim,

I sent you Police's home address.  He gets them then according to my inbox they go to Bigguytri after Police.

Found an article that talks a little about ART.  I don't have much experience with it myself.  From what I have read it seems like you really have to pay for this type of massage therapy, just like a massuese.  Guess they get training in this special technigue.  Thank god I am marrying a physical therapy assistance.

http://www.drabelson.com/PDF/Improve%20Your%20Running.pdf

So how is everyone shaping up so far?  I hope your all still motivated.  Those dvd's will certainly light a little fire under your butt.  Me, I just came inside from a spin on the bike on the trainer out in the garage.  1:20:00 mins.  HR never went above 135.  "Slow and steady captain."  Remember the tortoise and the hare!   Doesn't mean I don't do speed work, I do.  With 6 months of training left for IM I am sure Coach Mike as some real hard core stuff in store for me.  But for now it's all about getting a good base.

-Tyler
