Hi girlies I am at home feeling fat and lazy I can start swimming again on Tues I cannot wait!!!

I am going to look at a bike in the AM although I am not sure I should purchase w/o riding it first! Hopefully she can wait two weeks

Hope you all are well. KUTGW training!

I have been walking but that is all. When I had my surgery, I believe the dr may have damaged or bruised the muscle that runs behind my knee.
It really hurts!!!! Hopefully it will get better...

Take care

Heather

Welcome back Cathy. Hope you had a wonderful time in Flordia.

Thanks Zoya & Cathy, re the picture. I know it took me a while to get one up. I finally downloaded a bunch of picture from Sept-Jan on my camera. Only 345 of them. That was one, and I was happy with how it turned out. I'm still getting used to my hair. Growing it out still, but who know, It seems a lot of people like it short on me so maybe I should keep it this way. All of my old pictures have me with my hair colored and I think I'm going to keep it natural now. It used to be straight and now I have curls.

I missed my training this weekend, had to work, but will get back on track tomorrow. Back to work for me now.

Well, Florida was interesting.  There were 13 of us....all of my in-law family.  It rained in the beginning of the week and then it was near freezing at the end of the week.  Crazy weather!  And I missed a ton of workouts which upsets me, but not much I could do about it!

Zoya- that bike is gorgeous!  and congrats on the oly registration!  woo hoo!

heather- how are you feeling now?  any better?  when do you get clearance to do all activities?

kendra- I am SURE you will be ready.  when is the 1/2 mary?

Kaci- have fun in FL!  sounds like a good time!

Mel and Melissa-how's it going?

hang in there everyone!

Hey Ladies!

Cathy, welcome back! Heather, good to see you running!

Here is my question: my left knee has been bothering me persistently lately. It hurts to rung and it definitely hurt to go up and down the stairs. I need new running shoes (I put a lot of miles on my current pair...) I will see if it makes any difference with a new pair but so far the pain makes me worried. Anyone with knee problems out there?

Z as a matter of fact I ran this am and hips hurt BAD tonight. I wonder if it ever stops hurting

If it hurts BAD I would lay off a couple of days.

Any of you runners have words of wisdom???

I'm walking the More 1/2 marathon in New York City on March 24th with three friends. They have a goal of walking a 1/2 marathon in each state of the US and they have done 14 states so far in the last three years. This is only my second one though. I like to be adventuresome and do other things, like bicycle riding.

Then my first sprint Tri will be on May 5th. Cinco de Mayo.

Sorry you had bummer weather while in Florida. Hope the visit with family was good.

Ha!  I am the queen of knee problems!  New shoes often make a difference, but the other thing that is good to do is squats!  Lunges too.  But be careful with these.....not too deep and no knees coming out too far on the squats (do squats like you are going to sit your butt in a chair).

Sometimes when you run, you overdevelop outside of the thigh (lateral quads) and underdevelop the inside (medial quads)....then your patella tracks weird.  It can also be ITB (ilio-tibial band) issues.  Lots of stretching AFTER you run is also good.

Where does your knee hurt Zoya?

Where does your hip hurt Heather?

Sounds cool Kendra!  The 1/2 mary is SOON!  Do you think you'll join the "every state" club too?  Or if it turns out  you love tri's, then you could do one of those in every state!  That would be pretty cool.

Z - that sounds like ITB problems!  Definitely get the new shoes, but also google ITB syndrome and see what kind of exercises to try.  Some people use a foam roller.....If it truly is ITB issues, then better to work on it now than for it to get worse!  If it doesn't get better, I would recommend going to your health care provider and maybe going to PT!

No, I don't think I will join the 1/2 mary in every state club. At the moment my job requires me to work every third weekend, so that eats into a lot of weekend activities and I need to pick and choose what I do. I'm pretty sure that I am going to enjoy doing the sprint tri a lot more than the mary's, so maybe then I will start my own club of doing a tri in every state. Who wants to join me on that one?

THAT would be SO cool!  I have 2 states down - CO and AZ.  I think I have a long way to go.

Glad the hip is ok!  Let's hope it stays that way!

Injuries are no fun.  If you seem to have the start of any injury, it is best to get it taken care of early on, so it doesn't intensify and possibly keep you from training and competing!

Hey girls!

I'm back from FL. The flights were ok, but the change in Drew's sleeping patterns is killing me!!! He was up 4-5 times last night, mainly because he wanted to sleep with me. I was too tired to run yesterday and today and missed a day while traveling. So now it's time to play catch-up. Hopefully do a 3 mile run tomorrow and a 5 mile run on Sat. Then Sunday I am going to pull out the bike trainer and set it up in the workshop while my hubby is still traveling! No luck finding the heart rate monitor chest attachment. Hey, does anyone know if I can just buy the strap that goes around the chest for the heart rate monitor? I still have the watch.

How is everyone else doing?

Kaci, yes you can get just the strap.  What kind of HRM is it?  Sometimes people on this site have given/sold their strap if the watch broke, might be worth investigating.  I have a Timex strap sitting around somewhere.....

gotta love that time change thing.  When we were in FL, Tara (my 4 y/o) stayed on Colorado time, and was up until 11pm every night, while the baby (Ryan) switched to east coast time and was up really early.  argh!  Therefore I didn't sleep much on vacation!  haha!

Hope you are all doing well!

if you want to see if anyone has one on this site, post in the classifieds section.  You'll have to say what type of Polar you have.

Otherwise, you could also post in Triathlon Talk to ask if people have been able to purchase a strap from Polar or elsewhere....I just had a look at their website, but it wasn't overly clear as to whether or not they sell pieces....
