Hey guys.  I just finished writing the RR for the tri I did on Sunday.  It went better than expected, so I'm pretty pleased with it.  2nd tri down, looking for a 3rd.

Gaary,
I was wondering the same thing about the colored fonts and strike throughs. I can't even figure out how to get the race report done. Congrats on your Metroplex race, sounds like your post race was a lot more fun than mine.
"how do I make things bold when writing or different colors..or that cool strike through thing once I've completed a goal, should I pick up a beginner book on whatever computer code/language this is in?"

Nate, Good Job on your double this week. That would have killed me.

Going through a fault means I have to figure out where the Pay-zone(oil producing) rock formation is now lying. This time the layer of sedimentary rock just dropped a little bit' so no problem getting the drill bit back into the Pay-zone.
The high pressure gas can be a problem because the well we are drilling could blow-out & send the drill pipe back out the hole.

Now, can you tell me how to post an avatar or even a picture - i need to first learn how to re-size them then to post.

houston-tri-mama - 2007-06-13 2:46 PM Now, can you tell me how to post an avatar or even a picture - i need to first learn how to re-size them then to post.

  1. First you need to take a picture you want to use and open it in a photo editing software (i.e. the software that came with your camera, photoshop, etc.)
  2. Select Save As from the file menu.
  3. type in the name for the photo... then from the drop down menu located somewhere in that dialogue box you will find an option for file type. You want to select Best for Web or thumbnail. Anything that will get the size of the pic below 50 kb... that's as big as you can download for an avatar.
  4. REMEMBER WHERE YOU SAVED THAT FILE.
  5. Go to your control page on the BT web site
  6. At the bottom of the page is a selection box for your Avatar and a picture of you.
  7. Click browse... now find that pic you just saved. (see #4)
  8. Select pic... then click upload.
  9. DONE!

If you want to add pics to an album... then you have to create an album. It's basically the same procedure, except you don't have to resize the pics. I haven't had any pics to add to an album yet... maybe some day I'll get around to it... LOL.

Good luck figuring this one out. Any other questions... ask away!

Ummm, yeah right, I'll get right on learning this one... you lost me at photoshop.  Yes, i am not computer inclined - I admit it.  Confession of the day.  I will practice and try to post something by end of week.  I might even surprise myself!

Gaarryy - 2007-06-11 2:07 PM what type of drills are good for improving on the bike,, I've done that one legged thing some, is hill training on a bike similiar to hills for running, (speedwork). or when I hear people mention riding in larger/harder gears what does that do? that's it for now.. thanks mr Mentor

Gary...

Just my opinion, but the way to improve on the bike is to ride it.  A lot .  Ride it on flats, ride it on big hills, ride it on rollers, ride race pace, ride endurance pace.  There are definitely drills you can do on a trainer (and lots of DVDs available that provide these) and you can certainly head outside with the intention of specifically finding locations for doing hill repeats or riding long, flat, fast.

As far as your chain rings go... which ones you need to use will depend on your strength, your bike and the terrain on which you're riding.  Trial and error teaches you which gears work best when and it just takes time in the saddle to figure that all out.  If anyone has a simpler answer or an easy button on this, though, I'd love to hear it!

So ... what does everyone have on for this weekend?  Good training sessions?  Any races?

I'll be doing the Ottawa River Triathlon - my first olympic distance race.  I have to get on a flight six hours later for a business trip to Spain.  I figure I'll either sleep on the plane (I'm never able to ordinarily) or I'll totally cramp up.

thanks for the tips,, back in april I was able to do 90+miles a week, and noticed a big difference.. I guess I might be comparing biking to running too much..

Even when I 'm  running 30+miles a week, I do something to mix up the workout.. running hills, tempo run, track workouts or just some running exercise's.. so I'm not sure if there was something also bike related instead of just cranking out miles at the same pace each workout..

After next week, I'll be able to start getting the mileage going again..

** is there any opinions out there about running helping biking?? or the other way around..  I'll search the old post's also.  But I'm starting to train for a marathon, so I'll be a bit more run than bike focused and was curius if lots of running helps or counts for much on the bike..

thanks again bopper for the info

Sorry about the stress fx,,, did it take awhile before you or the doc's were able to figure out what exactly was wrong??

I don't know why but I'm hoping the extra running I'll be doing will help me more on the bike, then the bike helping me on the run.. Does that make any sense??

this spring I wasn't running that much but biking more, and the biking didn't seem to translate into better running, but it could have been me also.. The whole reason I started tri's was that I got injured getting ready for a marathon one year, and when I thought about it, the only thing I did different that year was I didn't do any swimming & volleyball  as my x-training.  So I got a bike and presto,, here I be..

Quick healing vibes for your injury

 Gary

Gaary
My experience is that running doesn't help the biking as much as biking helps the running.

Herridge, have a good trip to Spain. Remember all work & no play makes Johnny a dull boy.

I'll be working all weekend but hope to get in a long ride on my bike.

Hey Bopper that is pretty cool to hear about how you started.. I was a runner (slow) that would swim on my off days. So last year I got a bike and let it hang in the garage a few months until winter so I couldn't ride it. then this febuary started biking..

The best analogy Ive heard for running, wheather its for a marathon other distance is that your running to imporve the enigne (lungs/heart/red blood cells) while beating the crap out of the frame (legs) it's just a matter of balancing enough damage to the frame to get that engine fine tuned.  it's just getting your legs used to the jarring impact and building up the tendons, ligiments and such. Once I know I can go 10miles, then I know that anything is mostly mental, and base building.. Meaning if my legs can handle that I'm pretty sure as long as I'm carefull I can go longer distances.. of course I'm saying that after an injury last year..

It's one thing to know what I should be doing another thing to actually do it. This is why, for me this site is so great, constant reminding what to do and not do

Thanks for the happy father days wishes..
