Competed in a 22 mile road bike race today-Crank Your Heart (Auburn, Alabama). I won my age group and finished second overall!! Also, ran a 10K before the event (52.20) !!! I think that's a pretty good training day My hill training on the bike really paid off. I broke out of the pack on some really nasty climbs and never looked back.

Sorry I haven't been around lately kids.  I was on the road all week - Penn State U and Boston.

My swimming suffers a lot when I have to travel.  I have to admit, I don't drill like most people do.  I get soooooo bored in the pool....period.......so doing drills makes it even more unbearable.

Somebody ask a question...any question...about anything....even non-tri stuff....lets get this thread cooking!!!!!!!

ha...I have 7 pairs of racing skis...classic (in the track) skis are red (made in Norway..so red), all of my other ones are yellow and black Fischer skate skis...and none of them are cheap...average around $350-$425/pair.....next question...anyone...Bueller?

How much of an advantage is riding a tri bike vs road bike at events ??? Everyone reply and tell what you ride. I'm on a Trek 1500 road bike w/aero bars. Seriously looking at tri bikes!!!! My wife watched the race today and I think I might have the green light for a new bike.

I went from a Trek 5500 road bike w/ clip-ons to a Cervelo P2K TT bike for triathlons/duathlons. Both fit very well and I didn't see much speed advantage riding the Cervelo, although the Cervelo is more aerodynamic.

Unless the current bike doesn't fit, then move to another one. Otherwise, focus on improving the engine

That said, if the green light is there buy a new bike! I have 5 bikes and the wife doesn't say I have too many bikes, she says 'how come I only have 3!' I say more the merrier.

I've got a good article that tries to quantify it...I'll try to find a link to it.   I started out with a Trek 2300 road bike with clip-on aero bars.  Used it for my first IM.  Last summer I got a Felt DA after a year of whining that I needed a tri bike.  It makes a world of difference.  I'll try to find the article...

depending on the geometry of your frame, moving to a tri specific bike may make the transition to the run leg easier on your leg muscles...again, discussed in the artilce I'll track down

I had a Giant OCR3 for my first season.  Now I have a Trek OCLV.  I  rode A LOT more this year so that probaly made me faster too.

We should post pictures of our bikes too

I'm partial to Zipps, but haven't ridden anything else so don't know any better....I've got the 808s (front and back) that came stock on the Felt.   A good combo is 808 rear and 404 front...I need to get a disk one of these years

I've only ridden a disc (w/ Hed3 front) for race wheels, but have wanted to try the 808's and consider lacing a Powertap to it.

I like Jim's suggestion - 404/808 combo. If you're light and only plan to have 1 set of race wheels, the Hed3 front may not be the best option. I'm 175 lbs and was almost blown into a ditch at a TT last spring when a strong gust came across.

808 in the rear is almost as fast as a disk, but if its windy and you have one on front also it can get squirrely...that's why a 404 (less surface area exposed to wind) is a little more stable

404 in front will probably be easier to climb hills with....maybe?

Yep, what Jim said. I wish I was running something like a 404 up front at that windy TT. I had white knuckles from gripping my bars so hard!

I have a question. Another post-marathon one.

I fell apart at mile 22 where I encountered cramping (quads, hamstrings, calves), but thought it was because of bad pacing (went out too hard) and humid/warm climate. Did I bonk? I only took in 1 gel and drank sports drink at almost every aid station (sometimes 2 cups).

Bonking is a different issue from cramping.  Bonking is due to glycogen depletion, whereas cramping is typically due to electrolyte imbalance.  Do you know what the sport drink was and the electrolyte composition?

here's a pacers question:

Is it allowed to have friends come to pace you during tria w/o them signing in?

We all know that in all or most of the offical Marathons pacers are used for Age groups as well as the Elite runners so I don't see why it will not be allowed on trai's but I don't really knowUndecided

Anyone?

Thanks, Z.
