They suspended registration last night and are reassessing the entire race situation. I think the fact that it didn't sell out right away and there was so much negativity surrounding the the race WTC was looking very bad on this one. I think this is the right thing to do. http://ironman.com/events/ironman/uschampionship/ironman-u.s.-championship#axzz23WRXa4me Holy crap!!! That's huge!! And they're refunding those who already registered?! (And for those who haven't read the article, these people do get spots when registration re-opens.) I wonder if they will also re-visit the time the course will be open for. Tony, you might get to do this race after all! Hopefully with the new adjustments it will also give the race more positive vibes. This is all interesting indeed. It did seem like they made rush decisions without thinking things all the way through, and they have balls enough to admit it. Good for them. |

I have been reading all the threads here on BT but honestly I think they did this because it did not sell out quickly and they probably don't want to pay the money for the permits they need to run this race without knowing that they will fill this race to capacity. I think it was more of PR thing so they don't look bad. Not everybody was disatisfied which is a good thing. Maybe they can work out all the issues with the logistics, get more publicity around the event and have more areas for spectators to actually see the race. That would be a big improvement for the race. I doubt the cost is going to drop though, I think this will be an expensive race like Melbourne is regardless of what happens. I still think I am going to pass for next year until they get this whole thing straightened out. I am 99.9% sure I am going to try and do Wisconsin in 2013 instead assuming I can get in there when registration opens in Sept. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yeah, I skimmed the threads after I posted here. Lots of interesting thoughts. It does seem to be a good call for you to go with a more established race which you know you will get a quality experience out of. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Does anyone get sore legs from swimming? At first I thought my unusually not-recovered legs of the past few weeks was from all the biking I did in July which I wasn't used to, but after swimming this morning, I now feel like my quads are quite heavy. (Not sure if heavy is the way to describe it, but basically, it feels like I worked them!) I had a rest day yesterday, so I can only imagine that this is from the swim this morning. |

![]() | ![]() Samantha, glad your foot is recovering. I’ll let the swimmers answer your sore leg problem. I only kick enough to maintain balance, so my legs are not a big part of my swimming. I agree that the legs are never quite right to start the bike. I have tried picking up my kicking the last few minutes of the swim to try to get some blood flow in there. And I also have done some plyo-type jumps on the way to my bike. Anything to get the legs acclimated to gravity and work before hitting the bike seems to help at least somewhat. And I haven’t commented yet, but wow! The ladies killed their races. Great job. The bar is off the charts. |

I've felt a general fatigue all over after a really hard swim workout but not necessarily sore legs. Now I remember when I used to participate in the swim for fitness class coach would work us hard and class was in the evening. Then in the morning I would get up to run with some friends early and my legs were dead and felt like they could not go! |

It seems unlikely that your legs would be very sore from swimming unless you have a very strong kick and utilize it most of the time. Were you having any cramping during your swim? Any excessive push off's or was speed work on the agenda for this specific swim WO? I wonder if you are a little dehydrated. I can definitely feel added soreness when I have allowed myself become dehydrated. Another thought is where your kick is coming from. If your kick isn't coming from your hips, but from your knees that may be the issue too. |

What an awesome job you gals have doe reppin' the Junkies recently. All of you ladies have been killing everything just as Warren said, you're setting the bar pretty high for the rest of us. Congrats to all of you ladies. I have commented to all of you about your races but I thought I should mention in the group how satisfied I am that you all are doing so well. |

As I said earlier, I wouldn't do IMNYC because of the price tag for the entire package. If the fee remained $900 there would still be the hotel and meal expense that would kill any race budget this guy can afford. Actually I hope that the triathlon community see's that exorbitant price tags are not going to be tolerated and other series will take over if the IM organization continues to charge large fees. Rev3 full distance (140.6) race at Cedar Point is $425 if you get in on the earliest price point. However, I know many people will simply do an Ironman branded race because it's and OFFICIAL ironman race.

Allison sounds like you had a great time at warrior dash I recommend it to everyone, we did this one last year and had an awesome time! I want to tell you all how excited and inspired Iam by a group of women doing the Danskin tri here in a couple weeks, our salon does a fund raiser every October for breast cancer and the monies go to Aurora breast health fund, last year they started a program to help train women who have had breast cancer to complete the Danskin tri, so I asked if they needed volunteer help and they ask me to come a be a swim angel. (love the name) They had their first ows last night and I swam right next to my Partner her name is Doreen, I will with her this sat during a mini tri they are doing as practice and on race day, to help her to get thru mostly the swim, and I guess any other part of the race she might need some encouragement . There are 20 women will be completing their first tri as survivors on the 26th , Just being involved with this group is so motivating. |

Dirk I agree with you, $1200 is pretty hefty for any race even if you are local for it. I think WTC does a good job and they are pretty well established with the Ironman brand so they do draw most people to their races but they are not the only game in town. Rev3 is cheaper and my understanding is they are family oriented and do a great job with their races. Also with HITS dropping their prices they would be a good alternative and may draw more people to their races which would be a good thing for all of us aspiring to do the longer distance races. I would like to see HITS and Rev3 continue to grow as that would be a benefit to all of us. |

I think giving back is something we all can do in so many ways. Whether it is giving to Warren's effort to raise money for the Make a Wish Foundation, Jonathon's MS ride or breast cancer awareness giving means so much more when we practice it. When we give from our own resources or our efforts the rewards meld deeply into our hearts and touch others lives more deeply than we may ever see in this life. Congratulations Joanne for giving of yourself without reservation! |

Well, not only can she not ride a bike, she can't drive a truck either. How do you hit something on the passender side by the rear door and bed of the truck??? Don't ya'll feel SORRY for ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She did get the regular rubber pedals put on and she did ride w/o crashing. She rode 4.5 miles again in 25 minutes. She is signed up for a tri in October. Her main concern is not causing someone to wreck on their bike. I told her that would not be a problem, everyone would be gone. |
