Last minute questions ...

1 - was anyone able to confirm whether we will have an opportunity to search for our special needs bags (i.e. will they make the box of special needs back available post race).  I know they have in the past, but I wanted to see if anyone has gotten clarification

2 - does anyone know the distance into the swim the turnaround is and the turn into the canal?

Good luck to everyone!!

I'm not sure about the first question, but I remember them saying that the first turn buoy was around 1400...wasn't sure if it was yards or meters though

They mentioned not to put anything of value in the special needs bags because they would not be returned.  I guess if you could find where they were located before being placed in the trash and was willing to search they would be "available"

He also mentioned that once you access your SNB on the run course, it would be "damn near impossible" to find it on the next lap around.  So make sure when you access it, you get what you will need to finish the race.

Sorry, I do not know the answer to question #2

dodgersmom - 2011-05-18 9:58 PM OK, trying not to freakout here.

Decided to be proactive and change out the battery in my 310XT strap.  No problem.  4 little screws out.  Old battery out.  (was out for several hours).  New battery in.  Battery is in the right way (+ side up). Screws are tightened down.  NO HR READING AT ALL.  Repeated this process several times.  Tried re-pairing the HRM, soft reset and hard reset and still nothing.  Even put the old battery (which worked fine BTW - I was tying to be proactive) and still nothing.

I trained with HR and it is critical that I have this during the race.  What could be going on?  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

You can borrow my fully functional 310xt if needed!

not sure on special needs

swim course is 1400m up the lake, 100m left then back down.  canal about 4ft deep, but be careful of what is on the bottow if you must stand.

Unfortunately, our bikes are going to get drenched today/tonight after we drop them off.  I hope my electronic Shimano Di2 shifting system is as waterproof as advertised. Surprised

Got a glimpse of T1 this morning driving to work.  Good luck to everyone.  I will be volunteering at the finish line until 6:00, so I will be there for the pros and faster age groupers I guess.  I'm also going in the morning to watch the swim and try to get some videos of it and the exit.  Maybe I can catch TJ being first out of the water (no pressure or anything).  : )

Ok, under settings - general - accessories - hit rescan to find your HR monitor - the 305 manual says also don't be near any interference (electrical) - hope that helps

This sounds right.  I had to do this when I changed out straps a while back.  I think the unit basically has to reinterface with the monitor to recognize it.

Hi Dodgersmom, if you can't get it fixed, I use a Forerunner 305 that I can fedex to your hotel for Friday morning delivery (not sure if the strap works for 310XT, but I can send both the strap and the watch so you can use them instead).  I'm not in the race (driving in Friday night from San Antonio to volunteer), so I really don't need it over the next week and am happy to help.  You can just send it back to me after the race.  Just PM me with the hotel address if you want to do that...fedex deadline is 4 pm in my office so just let me know by then...John

It is stuff like this that makes BT such an awesome community!  Thank you so much for you offer.  I actually called Garmin this morning on the drive down and they are Fed Exing a new unit o my hotel tomorrow.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your offer.  Where will you be volunteering? I want to be sure to stop and thank you for the offer!

No need to thank me...you guys have enough stuff to worry so last thing you needed was to dive into the the electronic circuitry of a 301XT....just run the good race tomorrow and finish strong!!!

Practice swim went great.  That water is actually pretty cold (currently 76.8) to a boy from Louisiana.  I'm glad I have my sleeveless wetsuit with me.  I'll be headed to transition in a few minutes to drop off my bike and gear bags.  I am READY to get this thing started!

Where did you post it?

On the IM training forum we should start an IMTX watching thread with spreadsheet or link to it if it's on google.

What did everyone think about the water temperature? I was shocked how "cold" it was. I was expecting much warmer. It took me a good 30-60 seconds to catch my breath. After that, it felt good, but I was going an easy pace. I wonder how easily I would warm up if I was going race pace.

I texted my wife to bring my wetsuit from the house...I'm torn between whether I should use it if it drops to wetsuit legal...either way, I doubt I'll actually use the wetsuit...
