If anyone is interested you can track Bryan's Vineman progress here:

Vineman Tracking

He's bib # 668 (Bryan Dunn) and should be wicked fast today.

Bryan had a 27 min swim and is 13th in his AG.  He should be able to bike up pretty high in the AG rankings.

I am embarrassed to report I was unable to finish the swim. Water temp was 59 and at turn 1 I was struggling to breath and unable to slow it (my breathing) down. I tried to take a break on a Kayak but had to quit. I am struggling with my emotions right now.Several of my friends who are more hardcore Tri guys said this was the hardest swim they have done and several fought hard not to quit because of breathing issues.  Altitude and cold do not make for a great combo. I hope taking a mental break for three weeks will let me come back fresh and ready to hit it. Right now I am very discouraged at how this season is playing out. Thanks for all the support you have given me.

Don't be embarrassed!  Just put the race behind you and focus on the next one!  Have a fantastic time in Vietnam.  We want to hear all about it.

bryancd - 2011-07-16 8:48 AM Hey all! Just wanted to check in, it's about 6am and I am watching the Tour live, having some coffee, with a small cat sitting in my lap! We are in Santa Rosa, CA and I am getting ready to race Vineman 70.3 tomorrow. Weather is cool and will be perfect on race day. Lot's of morning fog giving way to sun and mid 70's. Beautiful bike and run course through the vineyards. Did this race in '08, can't wait!

Good luck!

This is what I ended up getting my mom for her birthday.  Its a road bike but it has brake levers on the base of the bar (and its purple -- her favorite color)

Um....daughter of the year award   Nice bike. She'll love it!

Heat is tough for everyone.  Its 90 here today and I'm rather unhappy about it.

Next time remember your Garmin, your HR info from races can be really useful.

My ride today was miserable. Hot and HUMID for us made for a bad combo. 29 miles took me 2hr 6min.

And my rt knee is still bugging me. I'm sure it's ITB stuff and I just need more rolling and such. But it's no fun. I just want to be able to make it through the race on the 31st, then be able to get better for Hotter 'n Hell at the end of August.

Terry - Like (other) Jeff said, you learned more than you think with the DNF>  Good for you fo r committing to the race, and not backing out before it even started.  It takes guts just to toe the line.

Kelly - I agree, daughter of the year.  Nice bike

Paul - congrats on 2nd

Bryan - Fricken unreal.  24+ on the bike and that is a wicked fast run.  Congrats.

Jen - I know exactly what you feel like.  I have the worst sinuses in the world.  11 surgeries in 10 years due to polyps reoccurring in my sinus cavities.  it's like having a sinus infection every day for 11 years.  last fall, it turned into an infection in the lining of my brain, and a 7 hour surgery, sidelined me for 3 months.  Now I have an amazing doctor and surgeon at Yale New Haven.  Love her to death!!!

I truly believe with her, and this sport, I have never felt so good!!! I am a firm believer endurance sports are a true medicine.

I did a "mock" Tri alone this morning on the course for the Aug 28th Tri I am doing. It was also my first time in the new wetsuit. What a diff it makes using a wetsuit. You almost glide through the water. Kelly, thank you for the blueseventy wetsuit reccomendation.  The distance on the swim is estimated but pretty close. I took my time with the swim transition because I had to put my wetsuit in the car. That was 1:30 seconds.

40m 39s12.90 miles19.04 Mi/hr545 calories
Avg HR: 162
Max HR: 179
7:47 AM
Equipment:

I felt great coming out of the water, but HR jumped immediately as the start of this bike course goes into a hill the second you leave transition. Couldn't keep the HR down during the bike, but legs felt good the entire time. Avg HR was def high though. I haven't hit 179 in a while, even on the HUGE hill I climb near my house.
23m 20s3.12 miles07m 29s/Mi352 calories
Avg HR: 162
Max HR: 177
8:28 AM
Equipment:

My transition off the run was fast, I thought anyway. 54 seconds. Once I get some Yankz laces, I might save a few more seconds. For the first 1/2 mile my legs just felt a little heavy, and I was running 8:45's. After that I started to pick it up. I def ran my second split (1.5 miles) faster. I ran that at a 6:48, and felt pretty strong. Just need to pick it up at the onset. HR was pretty identical to the bike.

I think adrenaline on race day with give me a little more boost, hopefully.  Course had a few more hills than I expected, as did the run course.

Nice job.  Run HR should be about 10 bpm higher than bike HR, so if you were going at race pace you went a little too hard on the bike (although its tough because you have the hill).

I worked this weekend to re-design the web site for the 1/4 marathon.

I you all have some time I would love if you could take a look at the site and let me know what you think.  What's good, what's bad, what's missing, etc.  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Yesterday, it was rit knee, top inside half. When running it was more top outside half.

Bike was set up off of my specs from my previous bike, which I was fit by the shop (not one of the $200 fits, but he spent about an hour going through the fitting and re-checking things).

I think I will consider cheering on all those that did the Racine 70.3 in over 100 heat my exercise yesterday.  I stood on the run course between an uphill and downhill and was cheering everyone and slapping hands.  People were loving it and I got quite a few suffering miserably to smile

Note to self:  sunscreen not bugspray!!!!  I am still considering my sunburn a worthy sacrafice to all those that competed . . . they suffered much more than I could possibly!

Hope everyone had a good weekend!
