My only question is, what do you do so that you are always posting at 3:30  in the morning, training?

Sounds good! Thanks for adding points for "other", it'll be easier to stick with my classes and ArcTrainer time when I know it'll still going to count!

Billy,

Yeah, this is something wrong with my brain that I get up so early.  Unfortunately, if I don't get my workout done by 6:15 in the morning, I won't workout at all.  Having 3 kids under the age of 7 that are very active in other things makes workouts in the evenings almost impossible.  It also helps that I am in bed by 10 every night.  I am not a late night person.

John, anyone who rises at 3 am to train is NOT a slacker....you should change your name

MSUDan might be up to joining a challenge. Stop by his blog and harass encourage him!!!!

I am back running. Did 3 miles yesterday and will try 4 tommorow. No biking for a while yet per my PT guy. SO I took my bike in for a tune up.

My totals for this months challenge are :
Biking: 41 miles
Running 30.3 miles
Swimming: 30,400 yards (17miles)

Hopefully I'll find another one someday, 'cause I'm off to bed. Just wanted to share...

Wow John!  I can't believe how early you get up to train.  I have trouble getting up at 5:00!  But I am a night person....I have a real hard time winding down and getting to bed.  For sure dude...you are NOT a slacker!!

It's going to be just like when I was in grade school - I'll be picked last to one of the challenge teams because my training numbers are pretty pathetic these days

I was to the pool yesterday and did 700m. Will be there again today.

Unrelated to tri training ... On Tuesday we had FibreOp installed at our house. Oh my god what a difference! Internet is now lightening fast - 20 mb per second download speed even when wireless - plus we now have digital cable and my son's new TV (his xmas/birthday present was a 32" LCD flatscreen) has HD. Yowser, is it ever nice. I absolutely GOTTA get a flat screen with HD for the family room !!!!

I would like to offer an alternative idea.  We are doing something similar over on the RW Tri forum.  For the winter challenge we are in teams but what we do is for January we estimated our total R/S/B for each person.  A spreadsheet tracks individual numbers and % of goal and there is a % of goal for each team.  Unfortunately for January I will be a bit short (99% hopefully).

The advantage of this format is that it doesn't matter if one team has some members pumping out mega distances.  As long as no one sandbags their estimates its fair.

One version of this is that each team could estimate how much total distance the team will hit and just track the teams total distance.

Thoughts?

I'm amused at the conversation... I was ALWAYS the last one picked for a team... it came down to "ok, I guess I'll take her, because there's no one else left"... glad to hear I'm not alone in that... When I was a kid, it hurt... but I'm grown up now, I can take it...

BUT, if there are hurt feelings here, or even bragging rights on the line,  why don't our QB's pick their teams in private emails... then announce their teams when all is done... nobody has to know who gets picked first or last...

As for the competition, it's all in fun, and supposed to help motivate us - as if our pending HUGE goals aren't motivation enough

Lena - do you read Russian and if so, would you be willing to translate a letter that we received over Christmas from a young lady in Belarus? She was a child from a region affected by the Chernobyl disaster who spent two summers with us.

I have held off chosing as LRR said John should go first.  But great idea, John PM me with your first choice and we will do it in private.  We will announce the teams when we are done.  I will say (and I know John is right there also) that this challenge is all about pushing ourselves without injuring ourselves (both mentally and physically).  I really want this to be fun and helpful.  LRR, Mav, Freddy, Diane, WAEF, have been great mentor teammates and the new group will just make it even better.  So no one should have any hard feelings about this.

BTW, MSUDan said he would join the competition.

Nice swim at lunch, my speed was pretty much the same as the other day (may be 1 sec per 100m faster) so my times the other were not a fluke!!!!  Fighting off a cold and will try hard to get to bed early tonight.  As I have whined before this is a swim week and today was my 4th swim in a row.  One more swim and next week is a run week, ugh.  This HIM stuff is tough, can't even imagine what IM training would be like and I have new found respect for those who have completed an IM.

I would think that there is really no reason to overdo it. Since all exercise can count in some form or another, it should be motivating without causing too much stress. And, I took one quarter of Russian, so if anyone needs help saying "hi" or "my name is...", I'm your girl!
