I went to the gym about 11 pm and finished up just after midnight. Just got a quick hour ride in (20.8 miles) on the trainer. This is my rest week so my volume is a lot lower than normal. I'm still going to try to get my 100 miles in on the bike this week though. I'm just going to take it easy with the speed and hill work. I wish my gym would get their pool remodel done so I could swim again.

They started installing the rubber bladder sections for the dam at Tempe Town Lake today. This is where the Ironaman Arizona swim takes place. The other two sections are here and the fourth arrives in October. The lake should be filled in late Oct and ready for IMAZ and the new Ironmen and Ironwomen. I'm excited to experience my 1st IM. I don't race again until Nov 7th and it's a Int'l distance race.

Hope everyone's week is off to a good start. I had to work the AZ primary election yesterday so I didn't workout even though I probably burned 3000 calories running around all day.

PennState - 2010-08-25 5:33 PM I have some limited net access for a bit (I'm in Canada). How is training going for everybody? I got in a few hilly runs over the week, and will be back in the USA tomorrow.

Have a good trip home!

Good for you getting the workouts in, I don't know how you do those late night workouts!

My week is meh... having a hard time getting it going, and then keeping it going, post IM.  Normally I'd not worry about this and take comfort in knowing it's normal, but I still have one more race in little less than a month and I take racing pretty seriously.

Hopefully riding the course tomorrow will give a nice boost.

I also need to get a plan together... it's so much easier for me (mentally) to get out the door if I know it's prescribed.  At this point there's not much I can do to gain fitness, but there is much I can do to not lose it.

IMWI Bib numbers are out, I'm #1340.

Down to the last few weeks, this Ironman is now becoming very real.  I think my body was ready for the taper to start, went for a ride yesterday and the legs felt dead.  Couple of weeks with shorter distance and time coupled with some race pace intensity and I should be good to go.

PennState - 2010-08-27 5:39 PM What are the group's off-season training plans?

For me it's marathon training for the California International Marathon on December 5th. I was going to race an Oly in Sept but decided to scrap it. I've been doing no swimming and practically no biking and I don't think the Oly would be fun on that little training.

It's no secret to anyone here that I've been struggling at getting back into a groove the past 6 weeks, so I signed up for a coached program for the marathon with the coaches (a husband and wife team) I'd consider working with if I decide to do IMAZ next year. I figure this way I can try out their coaching and see how I like it during a shorter program before committing to a full Ironman training program. The marathon program starts next week so I'm hoping it helps me refocus. Work is so crazy right now it's taking up almost 100% of my focus and that isn't healthy. I need to make room for training again.

Still have more than 2 months before I worry about off season!   But I have 2 thoughts and it depends on where I am at the time.  If I am back in NY I will finally do the Insanity dvd's, but in CA my apartment neighbors may not appreciate me jumping etc first thin in the AM.  So if I am still out here (which is likely) I will go back to the life of an unstructured duathlete!

This week I finally got in some training that I'm happy with.  I ran six miles on Wednesday with a woman who will run 4/walk 2 in the Wineglass Marathon that I am also doing in October.  I felt awful...body hurt and I was breathing so hard!  Today I did the same walk/run routine for 12 miles and felt MUCH better.  The body is an amazing/baffling thing.  I MUST MUST MUST re-introduce myself to my bike because I have a HIM in less than a month.

Happy training y'all!

HIM and IM recovery is as much mental as physical!

Glad you are back at it and enjoying it again!

Copy of what I posted in my blog on my adventure in bike riding this morning!

Well I am no longer a bike wreck virgin!  We were just about finished with the group ride and turned into a parking lot to bypass a busy intersection when the front tire washed out and down I went.  Another rider went over top of me.  Fortunately all I appear to have at this point is a bruised ego and some road rash on my shoulder, elbow and hip.  All the damage to the bike was knocking brake levers out of place and twisting the bars on the stem.  Rode it back to the bike shop where they fixed it right up and I went off and put in another 12 or so miles.  I guess you know you are in ironman training when you wreck and laying on the concrete the first thought I had was whether this was going to mess up my long run tomorrow!
