Slacked off last week. Frown Between weather and schedule, was just tough.  Was supposed to run 3x only did 2.  Did NOT touch a bike at all.  Only thing that remained the same was body-building/weight training. Did add swimming to the training and made the pool on the two days I'd planned on.  Knocked out a 1/4 mile in about 7 minutes (was pleased with that time).

TODAY, however, will get back on the run and then swim tomorrow morning with an afternoon ride.

Well I too am going to get back into training this week. I got my new bike pedals and cleats today and got them put on. I am excited to see how they feel. I plan on riding a couple of days a week and running a couple of days. With either a brick on the weekends or a mini brick during the week. Still can't swim because the water is too cold. Hopefully I will be able to start in April. But my wife is trying to help me stay on my healthy diet with lots of veggies and low fat foods so I am managing to keep my weight under control. I would like to be at 185 or 190 by the time I do my Oly in August. 15 pounds shouldn't be. Problem over the next few months. If it works out I will be doing a 10k the end of April here in Birmingham. I am still looking for a couple of local races to do throughout the summer. I would love to find a sprint to do but I can't really afford to travel to do one. Birmingham doesn't have a lot to offer in the form of tris.

Gary hope you reach 100% soon and hope everyone else stays healthy and trains hard this week.

It's 6:33a.  Just returned from swim.  1500m in a little over 30.  Realized after that I should have just done the other 100+ meters to get to a mile.  No worries, there's always Thursday's swim.  Back on the bike this afternoon.

Great job on the swim! I hope by the end of the summer I will be able to do a mile in 30-45 minutes.

I got a mini brick in today with a 3.5 mile bike and a 1.5 mile run in just over 26 minutes. I am hoping to get a good 25 mile ride in this weekend with a decent run behind it. It will be at an easy pace just to get a feel for the distance. Today was the first ride with the new pedals and shoes on my bike. And my third run with new running shoes. All felt good and comfortable, though the pedals are going to take some getting used to. I think I am going to do some one leg drills to really get the feel of how my stroke needs to be. Any other ideas would be great though.

Sounds like everyone is getting into their workout plans.  My return to workouts is going well, cold lingers a tad bit but I am over the worst of it.  Another 1100m in the pool today and 2.5 mile run tonight.  Swim and bike tomorrow!

I just sold my vortex and bought the next model up as a gift to myself.  Very good wetsuit for the price.  Some folks refer to them Ripterra as they tend to get nicks and cuts.  I didn't have any major issues but I did end up going over to a SCUBA shop and buying a can of repair glue.  The reason I upgraded as I felt mine had great bouyancy but not positioned quite right for my needs.  The one I have now I feel like it balances me better in the water.  That said the Vortex is a great wetsuit and should do well for you.

Hey all ... my first race of the season is in the morning.  It will be a 'fun' race for me as two of my daughters are participating.  1st time for them, so we'll group together and have some fun.  Seems a shame for me to cruise on the bike leg and transition, only to have them kick my rear during the run.  Overall goal is to have fun, inspire the girls and finish well.

Ciao ... Dorm

As I was going through my check list to pack up and head out of town, I thought might be good to share it with the group.  Attached is a pre-race checklist I use just to help organize my gear and make sure I have what I need.

Enjoy ...

I have a vortex wet suit as well and havent had any issues with it. Only worn it a dozen times or so though. BTW, the zipper goes in the back. I put it on backward the first time :-). Also, it goes on easier if you put your feet in plastic grocery bags.

Hey all!
Back to working out albeit getting back to decent distances.  Went to dinner and movies for sons BDay last night.  Saw the OZ movie and really liked it, if you see it make sure to see it in 3D.  Friday night was my sons 2nd track meet of the season. He ran the 1600m for the 2nd time and ran a 5:39 which knocked off 40 seconds from his PR.  He also ran the 800m and did well, the kid is way faster than I am.  He is now shooting for a sub 5 min 1600m by seasons end.

So, how was the race?

Hey all,

Friday morning around 1:30 am ended up taking DW to the ER.  They ruled out heartache and several other items but couldn't definitively identify why she was in such pain.  She is improving and we got a full nights sleep last night that helped.\

This morning I went to a swim video analysis.  Best $20 I have spent on swimming.  Really thought I had my form decent but watching the underwater video I was not rotating enough, feet needed to point more and keep them together better.  Coach ran thru some drills and my last video was much improved. I have mentioned this before but getting something like this done is one oif the best ways to improve.

Gary, hope DW gets to feeling better. We are going through a similar thing with our some Keagan. We just got done with a round of ultrasounds to try and figure out why he is having abdominal pain and so much vomiting. We have been at it for almost 2 years now with very few answers.

Today I had an awsome workout. Me and a couple of friends rode 25 mile on the bikes and 4 of the last 8 was a climb of about 2000ft. up to a lookout point and turn around. We finished the whole thing in just over 2 hrs. We are planning a ride in 3 weeks to ride from Anniston, AL to the GA state line which I think will be somewhere around 60 or 70 mile round trip. On a side note the addition of the Shimano pedals and my shoes seems to make a world of differance on the bike as far as endurance goes.
I stopped this morning and got my swim goggles and swim cap as the weather seems to be warming and I am hoping to get some swim training started in the near future.

Did an OWS on Saturday.  Water temp was 63 degrees.  BRRR.  Didn't time myself, just wanted to get the experience.  A little shocky when I first entered the water but once I got started, I had a pretty good rhythmn.  Sighting is definitely going to require some practice.  Suggestions?

I've checked the water temps where I'll be doing my first tri and that time of the year, it will probably be close to 80 degrees or better so I'm going to continue the OWS practice without a wetsuit.

Hi everyone!  I know its been awhile, but wanted to stop back in to give you all an update on what I've been working on.  With the weather being lousy, most of my time has been spent on the bike trainer.  I logged nearly 500 miles in 7 weeks, while mixing in some running on the treadmill and weight training.  In addition, I now do 30 minutes of yoga each morning and it has helped dramatically with loosening up.

The knee is much improved, so much so that I completed the Caesar Rodney 5k yesterday in 30 degree temps in 28:25.  I couldn't have been happier, since I ran my race and the thought of walking didn't even enter my mind (which is a MAJOR accomplishment).  What made it better was my 70 year old father ran it with me and finished in 31:40, winning his age group.  Afterwards, he and I both agreed we are ready to get serious training for the Escape From Fort Delaware Sprint Tri in May.

At any rate, thats where things stand right now, hope all is well!

Pat
