Tony good luck today!

Vero I am happy that taking sometime off has helped your shins make sure you ease into your running & i hope the ribs feel better soon

Dirk congrats on being done with PT, and with the OT and getting in what sounds like a hard bike and swim!

Shannon welcome to the Junkies!! Where is that bio???

Karl glad your back, did you say 38 degrees was cold ???

Dina how are you feeling? Hope everything is healing

Matt congratulations on becoming race director!!

Will nice ride!

Jenn good to hear from you! When is your run? And how's the new job??

things ae finally coming to an end with the bank stuff and I feel like I can actually move forward we aree hoping to have an answer from them this week Which meant I can actually focus on things so I got a really good week of training in, and like everyone else I also was closing in on a 10 pound weight gain so thats gotta go . It looks like it is going to be very windy and rainy today so another indoor bike ride is on the list and I really am going to try to get a swim in

Oh yeah, well I organized my closet, sent all my pictures off to be printed from the last 2 years AND scooped up all the dog pool in the yard. So there, aren't you all jealous .

I did decide to do a little strength training but just my abs, arms and back. I gotta do something!!!

Matt you will get a kick out of this, all my FB friends post pics of their kids all cute playing in the leaves but we don't have any mature trees. So we took the kids to the park so we could rake up a pile of leaves for them to play in. Of course then they ran off and played in a ditch instead!

Dirk that was a very solid bike and swim workout. I'm really glad to see you back at it and I know you must be pretty happy about getting through PT and all the OT you've been putting in at work. Hopefully you'll have more time now to focus more on your training.

You know you could be right about the MTN bike ride yesterday. I was thinking some more about it as well. It could be that maybe my other rides haven't been as good as I thought they were either. I have to be honest I really didn't feel like I had much energy yesterday, I felt I was struggling on some of the climbs and that my handling was a shaky but even with that it might also be that I am just improving a little bit.

Will I didn't realize that 50 miler was your first long ride following the IM. That's a pretty solid effort considering you did that less than a month ago.

Jenn good to see you checking in and glad to see that the marathon training is going well. I did a marathon running 3 to 4 days a week as well during the training for it. I had the same concerns about injuries so I ran a little less. I was able to do it on that amount of training although in hindsight I think I would probably have done a little better if I could have run a little more.

Dina sounds like you're keeping pretty busy this weekend. Glad to see you be able to get some workouts in as well.

JoAnne glad to see you checking in as well and I'm glad to hear that you're moving forward with the whole bank and business saga you've been dealing with. It's also good to hear that you got a great week of training. I can sympathize with you on the weight gain and I am amazed that I've not really gained more weight than I have with the reduction in training time and intensity as well as my poor eating choices. Stay safe with the weather.

I did run my 10K today and to be honest I did not want to get out of bed but I am glad I went. We were very well represented today as we probably had at least 10 Wildwood Warriors out there either running the 5K or 10K. We also had 4 or 5 of us place in the top 3 in our age groups so the Warriors did a great job today.

So for I decided not to try and PR this thing as I didn't think I could anyway and just ran for fun. I wanted to get in there under an hour and I did that so my time was respectable for a slow old guy like me. I did an unofficial time of 55:33 with about an avg pace of 9:10. Not bad for me at all. I really didn't struggle or labor at all. It was a two loop course so I ran a comfortable pace the for the first loop and then tried to pick it up a little the second loop. I guess I was feeling like I had to be competitive lol. I checked the Garmin and my splits were as follows:

Mile-1 9:11, Mile-2 9:10, Mile-3 9:30, Mile-4 9:09, Mile-5 9:24, Mile-6 8:45

Not sure what happened around mile 3 and 5 there was a little headwind going south but I didn't have to run into it much so that could be why they were a little longer than miles 1,2,4 and 6. There were a few short stretches into the wind so I'll blame my slow splits on the wind. Otherwise it was a lot fun seeing and running with everyone.

I was going to MTN bike today but it's been raining on and off so I figured that's probably not a good idea so I'll spend the rest of my Birthday watching football and probably over indulging in some unheatlhy food choices today lol. You gotta get a pass on your Birthday!

Tony sounds like you had a really great run and I'd be thrilled with those times! And I think your body probably needed that 10 hours of sleep more than another run so I'm glad to read you slept in.

Karl todays rest week project is cleaning the carpets. I rented a rug doctor for the day and I've been at it for 2 hours already. I'm glad we only have carpet in the 3 bedrooms. I've still got landscaping to cut back this week and my son mentioned he would like me to paint a mural on a wall in the basement so I've still got plenty to keep me busy!

Honestly it's been really good so far. I thought I would be getting the jitters by now but I feel like I am taking back a little control of things in a weird way. So much of my time since getting involved with triathlon has revolved around s/b/r its nice to focus on other stuff. And it is a lot easier for me to eat better. When I'm spending a lot of time training I feel like I can eat whatever I want then it's a vicious circle of eating too many sweets, then dragging around then craving more sweets. I have had no sweets at all since last week I think it was Wednesday. I also have more time to think about and prepare a healthy snack or lunch instead of just shoving the first thing I see into my mouth because I am starving all the time. Hopefully I can get some of these issues worked out and have a better plan when I do get back to training.

This is all fine now but if I take this nice little break and try to come back and still have trouble I will not be a happy camper!

Dina, great job resting. I'm with Matt - make it a challenge to see how much you can relax.

Tony, great job on the 10k, but yes, Virginia, you ARE old! It's ok, us aged individuals are crafty and wise.

Matt the RD!!!! That's awesome. I wish I lived out there so I could partake.

Welcome Shannon. Any friend of Dirk's is immediately in the "watch it" zone, but if Brenda vouches for you you're good to go.

Ok, group, I've been on my biggest tri-slothful stretch since I started this sport. I've really been trying to catch up on some stuff at home and that will continue through the winter. My youngest, J, can be tough on a house as Dirk can testify seeing him in action for even a few minutes. I've let some things slack off on that side so I'm getting to all the honey-do projects. I've also not been on here as much for a variety of reasons.

But all of that is really no excuse - I've just been LAZY and eating everything in sight and not getting out there for much S/B/R. But this weekend the laziness ended and now I'm back into starting my out season training plan. You all play a big part in keeping me motivated, as I'm sure we all do for each other, so thanks for staying active in here and I look forward to getting my fitness back.

Hey Warren, don't worry about the time off you will be fine. You know what, you can go ahead and extend your off season until next July or even August and I bet it wouldn't hurt your times....that much!

Had a crazy hard workout yesterday with the trainer, I am not sure if I mentioned the gym put in an indoor track and it just opened, they do crossfit in the center so this is what we have done the past 2 weeks but yesterday was killer! Karl gald to hear you got a good long run in, hope it wasn't as cold as it's been for you down there lately. It's actually been pretty warm here in NY.

Dina good for you in laying off the junk food and finding things to do to keep busy during your recovery time. Man it sounds like you've got plenty to do. I also think you are right about getting caught up in all the training and having your life revolve around that especially during the season. I have not done this as long as you have but after focusing on one thing for that last two years I agree it's nice to take a break and reconnect and rediscover the other things that you enjoy doing and actually taking some time out to do those things without worrying about training for something.

Warren glad to see you checking in as well. It sounds like you've been pretty busy during your training down time. Hope you've enjoyed some time to do other things and I think we can all relate to the home projects. I'm pretty guilty of neglecting things that I probably should have taken care of during the season. Glad to hear that you have time now and are ready to get your out season kicked off.

JoAnne what is the evening with Andy Potts all about? Can you give us more details on that? It sounds like you've been getting some good solid training in as well. I'm glad to hear it and those killer trainer workouts are going to payoff big time for you at IMWI this year.

Speaking of Potts, here's a pic from Timberman at the Make-A-Wish meet and greet. He was a very approachable and "normal" guy. Well, other than the doing a 3:5something half!

Hey friends, any of you have a good frame that you can display your finisher medal in? Would like to get my IM medal framed with a couple of pics and my distances & times...

Found this place that does displays for all of your medals (the custom one this guy got is sweet). They arent too costly. But, the cheapest frames I've found for medals are around one hundo dollars... ouch. Anyone know of a good one for less?

Welcome back Warren!  I've wondered if you were still alive or if you had fallen off training wagon.  I'm glad to hear you were just taking some time away.  You've been missed for these number of weeks.

As I suppose most of you figured, I have been a little busy over the past few days.  The storm work began for me at about 1 PM on Sunday and I got my first wink of sleep about 6:30 Monday morning.  I was only able to sleep for 3 hours and was awake at 9:30 and finally quit fighting to go back to sleep and climbed out of bed at 10:15.  Since we have a requirement to get 8 hours rest (once off work) I stayed at home, participated in a conference call about the storm and talked to other crews while off work "resting."  I paid for that when I went to work at 2:30 PM and worked again until 4 AM Tuesday, returned home to get my 8 hours rest and slept a more tolerable but unfulfilling 5 hours of sleep.

Luckily for me and my crew we're essentially done with the storm restoration.  We have a couple of structures to replace but no customer outages are involved from these broken poles.  I plan to work one more day and then take a 3 day "normal" weekend.........I hope!

Jo, 22 degrees, I'd be on the trainer or at the gym, no running for sure! hey glad they got a track in!

Good to hear that Andy is a class act!

I'm hoping my son had a breakthru last night on nutrition..he is skinny and wanting to gain weight...

Do you mean do I use a trainer for winter riding? Yeah, I have a 1up USA and I also have rollers. I love the rollers but it's easier to do hard interval workouts on the trainer. It's usually a family thing as I ride in the evening watching the Bruins or our designated family TV show with the clan. The few longer rides are done watching football with my son who's interested. If it's a particularly tough workout, I may break out the movie Miracle. If you're an ex-hockey player and you can't hammer to that flick, there's no hope!

Thanks for the welcome back all, and thanks for keeping us in power Dirk. Ever since we had a crazy ice storm up here a few years back and most of the area was without power for a few weeks, it really puts into perspective how important electricity is for our well being. And I admit that when I see those storm reports in the midwest I wonder how much time you'll be spending cleaning up the mess.

Will that is pretty cool. To be honest I've wanted to do the same but I haven't looked much. I've seen the Ironman medal rack which looked pretty cool but I wanted to throw mine in a glass display case of some sort with the hat I wore for the run and maybe a picture of the finish. Right now the medal is sitting in my Wisconsin backpack. I'm thinking once I get out of my training malaise and get my goals together for next season I'll set that up. It may provide the much needed inspiration I'll need in order to finish the next one.

Hey guys, been a while and I figured I'd have to check in especially since I knew Dirk would have been hard at work since last weekend. I hope everyone has been going strong and doing well. With a pile of work travel and daddy duties I took about a month of down time with limited training. I've gotten back into it the past few weeks and it's going well. Workouts get done pretty early with having to get a one year old up and out the door to day care. But their getting done. I've finally had yo put the shorts away as we have had quite a bit of cold weather recently. I got out for a ride last Friday morning set 8am. It was 2 degrees C. Or 35ish F. Damn cold for a ride. I've joined the BT team on trainerroad if anyone else is on as well. I'm going to try yo get caught up on everyone's posts and I'll make sure I check in a few times a week. Cheers all.

Tony - good job on the HM last weekend, and a happy birthday to you (sorry it's late)

JoAnne - 22 degree mornings and tornado warnings in the same week? I'll take living here in California, thanks. Our lows are still staying in the high 30's .

Jen, Warren, and Derek - its good to hear from all of you.

I managed a couple of miles in the light rain yesterday. Shins felt "tight" but not painful. I'm planning on running over on the track at my daughter's middle school tomorrow to see if the softer surface will help.
