Pro 4360 Baton Rouge area | Subject: RE: Gary's Mentor Group - Closed for Training DW - Congrats on a great race! Working on the RR for my race. Overall nothing spectacular from the race, no PR, etc but due to lower attendance I pulled a third in my AG. I am pretty sure there were at least 4 in my AG. Water was dang cold (I believe lower than 65) and came out of the water dizzy and falling over like a drunk. Evidently quite a few people had similar issues. Really long T1 trying to get the world to stop spinning. Took me a couple of miles on the bike and I was back to normal. T2 was good but my run was okay and lost time at a porto stop. But I got to hang out with a friend from RWOL afterwards and getting a 3rd place medal was cool. |

Member 11 Central New Jersey | Subject: RE: Gary's Mentor Group - Closed for Training First long business trip in a long time begins this Sunday. NJ to Tokyo for two days then 1 week in India. Any tips on keeping fit and healthy on the road? Training has been good except for swimming which has been zip. Both hotels have pools and gyms but I'm worried that work and jet lag are going to kill me just a few weeks out from the longest race I've ever done. I'm doing the race just to see where my fitness is at and as prep for HIM in September. I'm not putting any pressure on myself for an A performance (not that I'm remotely capable of an A performance by most standards). In any event, the goal is to finish and get a reality check on where I am at the beginning of the season. Goal weight by May 5 was 180, started at 203 and just around 193 now but body composition has much improved since January training began so I'm not feeling too badly about not being closer to goal. Hope everyone is having success in their training! |

Regular 70 NW Houston | Subject: RE: Gary's Mentor Group - Closed for Training 3 weeks out to 1st race. Just completed a brick. 50m on bike for 11.79 miles and then 10m run and completed just over 1.01 miles. Within minutes HR back down and I felt great. Finished this week with my last serious weight lifting until post race. Now just two more weeks of "hard" training and then taper. I am sooo excited! |

Member 112 Statesville , North Carolina | Subject: RE: Gary's Mentor Group - Closed for Training Got a fantastic workout day in today. Did 28 miles on the bike in just over 2 hours an a little later did 500 meters in the pool. I didn't time my swim I just wanted to get a feel for what I am going to be up against. Felt pretty good but am sore now. This is the first time I have swam at all since last summer and probably the furthest I have swam in one go. |

The SIL will go with the 100m group ... me, I'll go with the 100k group. Hey all ... beaeeutiful ride this morning. 248 riders left at 9:00 ... most did the 50k, some did the 100k and fewer did the 100 mile. I fought a cramp about 50 miles into the ride, so for the ones in the group, I can't stress enough how key it is to stay hydrated AND fueled. I probably ate 3-4 Power Bars, 3-4 goos and drank a lot of watered down Power Aid, but obviously not enough. This was my longest ride to date and I was happy with the results SIL came in 3rd in the 100 miler ... he was very happy too. |

Pro 4360 Baton Rouge area | Subject: RE: Gary's Mentor Group - Closed for Training Well, week two of the new plan and trying to ramp up. Seems like my legs are lagging a little but will get there. Temps keep swinging here and run was a bit warm yesterday afternoon but morning temps are cool (for LA). Spent most of my Saturday with daughter at her middle school track meet. She did well and took third in the discus throw. How is everyone's training?

Spent most of my Saturday with daughter at her middle school track meet. She did well and took third in the discus throw. How is everyone's training? Off this weekend for my wife's birthday. But have really started getting my mind around what I need to work on for the next month or so. My dad and I are talking about running a full Mary in feb and I am thinking about running another half in sept. I am just going to do one tri this year. Thought about trying to do 2 or 3 but with work and kids schedules it is just not possible to get enough time into training. On another note what size wheels does everyone use for races? I have found a bunch of good deals on 650c wheelsets. |

I have found a bunch of good deals on 650c wheelsets. Not sure I understand the question as your bike either uses 700's or 650's. While I guess you could try to make them work they are not interchangeable. My first bike had 650's and while selection for tires/tubes was a bit limited it was pretty easy to find deals on wheels. |
