Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Dina thanks for sending that inspire, so far so good he is at the 96 mile mark and under 5:15 on the bike. Looks like he will do the bike in well under 6 hours. I hope your friends are doing well especially Thomas hoping third time is a charm. I better get my butt moving and get my run in soon as I really want to see DC finish. Joanne very cool to hear that you got to ride the IMWI bike course, it's a very techincal course. Good job to get out there and check it out before race day and even better to get some help out there. I am really excited for you two weeks to go and looking forward to cheering you on from a far and tracking you during the race. You will have to take good notes on the course because I am planning to do IMWI in 2013 so you can school me with your knowledge of the race. I can't wait for registration to open up the day after, I have to get into that race. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() That must be what is slowing him down then or it could just be that 112 mile bike ride. He is 14 miles in at 3:10, not sure if he is just pacing himself or it's the heat. He said he wasn't going to start racing until mile 18 so it may be part of his plan I just hope he finishes. |

Tragic. Wow. At nationals, one guy was saying how two races in a row that he had done someone died. It seems like this is becoming common...?!? From the limited knowledge I have, I believe it's gotta be a numbers thing... more people are doing tri's, so you hear about more people dying?? |

I don't know, between that and all of the bike crash threads in tri talk - it's really messing with me. On my ride today I slowed down to a crawl because a guy was mowing the grass and the grass was blowing all over the road. Last I checked I have not heard of very many people who wipe out on grass clippings!! Then I stopped, pulled over and got off my bike for a truck pulling a camper. Congrats to your friend Samantha, she rocked that race! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Wow sorry about another death. I agree Sam, more people are doing them. Some politician will probably try to ban them but look at how many would die if they didn't do them. Please keep us up o date on the finishes of everyone. Gosh I was out for a day and missed a LOT!!! Dina, sorry you missed your training. Jo, now you know what to expect, you are now prepared. I want you to have as much confidence in yourself that we junkies have in you!!! When you hit the "hill", remember we are all pulling for you. Tony, I hope you get in the IM!!!

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sometimes I think it is people underestimate the swim, one of my sons friends was going to do a half and pretty much had not done any swimming granted he is younger but still, luckily the race filled and I told him he needed to put in training for the swim just like his running, Tony that is awesome that you want to do IMW I will be rede for sure to cheer you at this point on I am not sure if I will sign up again for next year but I am considering it ![]() |

Congrats to your friend Samantha, she rocked that race! Wow that is just unbelievable my prayers to the family. It seems like this is just happening far too often. It seems like over the last month or so there has been quite a few stories like this in regards to swimming. Also with the bike crashes that have been reported here on BT. Dina I don't blame you for taking care on the bike. Every time I see this and I tell me wife about it I think the more concerned she gets. Not only that but I think I gave her a heart attack yesterday. After a long bike workout we went shopping and I did not eat much afterwards. I get out of the car and I start getting light headed and before I knew it I was on my butt in the parking space next to the car. I could not believe it and what's worse it happens right in front of my wife. I'm trying to tell her I am alright and probably low blood sugar and that I probably didn't eat enough but she was not buying it. I think I scared the heck out of her. I am thinking between the stories, my crash last week and that episode she is about ready to revoke my USAT card. Samantha congrats to your friend she had an amazing race today. Bobby is getting there 8.5 miles to go. |

![]() | ![]() I'll catch up on the stories, sounds like some great races for friends. I had a great pastor/friend win his age group the Sprint Nationals in Burlington last weekend, so we can add that to the list. And that death is just tragic beyond belief. As for my race, I finished in 5:34 but have a great story. At mile 30 my seat came "unhinged". I pulled over and realized I didn't have to tools to fix it, so I decided I could somehow manage 26 miles with a teetering seat. I actually figured out how to sort of ride pretty well with it. Then at mile 48, it totally came off! I again pulled over, luckily found all the pieces, attached to seat to the velcro from the bike bag, and decided to ride the last 8 miles standing on the peddles. The last 8 were mostly flat and downhill, so it wasn't impossible, but my legs were fried for sure. I cramped like a banshee on the run about mile 8-9, so I'm not sure if that's related or my run training wasn't good enough (more likely). I'll try to attach a pic of the bike. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Holy crap Warren! Of course that bike ride must have compromised the run! Considering that, 5:34 is a great time! (Well, I would call a 5:34 a great time with no issues!) Tony, take care of yourself!! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Warren that is an awesome time for a HIM congrats on a great race and to think you did the bike with a broken seat like that is nothing short of amazing! Good thing you have MacGyver like skills. I can't wait to read that race report. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I just got to see my friend Bobby finish, must have been a really long day for him and probably not what he was expecting knowing him but he did finish in 13:22. I can't think of too many people who would go back out and do an IM a month after trying to do one and not succeeding. I have much respect and admiration for him and could not be happier for him. Congrats to you Dream Chaser! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Help! I was browsing craigslist for bikes. Is this a good deal? http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/bik/3230902671.html I know fit is everything (blah blah I was thinking that IF I were to buy a bike, I would like a road bike, if a good deal comes along... which this is not a road bike, but it does seem like a good deal, so I feel like I should entertain it? (I have some shoulder issue which I don't think would like me spending lots of time in aero.) Advice please!! Basically, is this a good deal? Keep in mind I know little about bikes... |

I didn't hear about this and I think this article was pretty informative. BTW about the bike it looks like a pretty nice bike and the price looks pretty reasonable but I would defer to the experts here who could give you a better assessment. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Tony, congrats to your friend. 13+ hrs is GREAT and to come back a month after is really inspirational! Samantha, if the bike is new, it looks like a killer deal. Also that was an excellent post about the deaths and wht to look for and good to know. As hard headed as I am, I would have definitely tried to push thru it. Warren, you are amazing, riding the bike in that condition...Just WOW!!! Well it looks like the hurricane is going to our West so we we are not going to get the brunt of it but please keep the people where it goes in your prayers. |

(I have some shoulder issue which I don't think would like me spending lots of time in aero.) Advice please!! Basically, is this a good deal? Keep in mind I know little about bikes... The price seems really cheap. My only concern is the listing is vague or maybe I'm missing something. I don't even see where it says the size of the bike just the "smaller" wheels which I would assume are 650s. I would want to know how many miles are on the bike, has it ever been in an accident, is the seller selling the bike with the computer and pedals, what year is it, where was it purchased from? I would also want to see close up photos of the components and photos of any scratches. Just be really cautious purchasing from craigslist as I've read more than one thread about stolen bikes being listed on craigslist. And please do not meet the seller for anything by yourself! It is a pretty bike! |
